People I realize the need for change in this country and across the globe. I realize that we cannot continue on this path of self destruction through corruption and greed. I am also an Idealist and dream of a world in which we have no money, no greed, no hatred, a place where people helped others because it was the right thing to do. When some one needs a house the town comes and builds them a house when some one needs some food the people come together and bring food. That would be an idealistic world where everyone was truly on the same level and equal. However, being an idealist, I also see the realism in it all. People are greedy people sin and people will not change just because the "99%" of the population gets a free handout. What happens after this movement has "changed the world" you are still going to have 99% of the population unsatisfied looking for something more. The problem is not Wall-Street the problem is not our government the problem is us and until we change our moral integrity and understand the meaning of being a "good" person we will never escape our self-destruction. If you want to do something useful and truly change this country then occupy our streets with a helping hand for people and kindness. Occupy our homes with messages of good will and positive moral character. Teach our children to not be self-entitled and to find happiness not in materials or wealth but find it through helping others and putting others before their own personal wants and desires. If you really want to have a movement occupy the hearts of Americans and the world and show them a world of selflessness.

What's the saddest thing of all is that the people who are this way and express these traits of moral integrity in their day to day lives are typically not the people we celebrate and are not the people complaining about their lives. We should lift these people up for their service... The media should consume their TV shows and magazines with the good that these people are doing instead of stories rape, murder, corruption, and occupier. Have people watch the positive things and maybe they too will want to do something positive. But do not feel pity for these people who truly give hope in the world because in the end they will be rewarded like they should be.

You hit the target with this post. We The People of the world are the enemy to ourselves. Sound strange, and the bad thing is no one cares enough to change.

We all see Greed and Selfishness everyday and ask WHY? That one little work "WHY?" can be answered in more ways than I can count.

A bigger question is "How Do We Change that which is a part of Human Nature"? This is the 21st Century and there is still no answers. Wars have proven costly and ineffective. Enacting Laws have also proven ineffective.

I believe it will take 100's of years evolution for changes in Human Nature to become reality.

din365... I see people like me who want the 1% to stop hoarding, stealing our money, stop handing out or giving our money to special interests, stop bailing out obviously failing businesses and banks, and to start hiring again and get people back to work...

I do not agree with the Occupy movement simply because the majority of people in this movement seem to have no clue what they are even standing for they just hear some ideas that might increase their pockets with little effort... I do however agree with the statement that you made and this is what we should be working toward... Its a shame too because this "movement" had a lot of potential but again the greed of society has tainted it as well.

Seems you're lumping the govt into the 1%. Please stop with the "they stole our money" thing because it really is laughable and old. When did a wealthy person ever rob you? You kind of fit the entitlement feeling that was mentioned in the OP.

[-] 1 points by wcedward (58) 12 years ago

I agree with what you are saying but personally I interpreted this person's statement as the government needs to not have as much power and control... i personally believe the government is not responsible to bail us out and to spend spend spend money just because they "think" that will boost the economy... I am actually the exact opposite of feeling entitled from the government I think the government gives too much in the wrong the areas... Invest in farmers, invest in patents, invest in real people with real jobs that work hard everyday...

Well I agree that no business, bank, car company, whatever, should have been bailed out by our tax dollars. We have bankruptcy laws for these things. Rewarding bad behavior/mistakes just reinforces them. I thkn we do need smaller govt less involved in our day to day life. I mean seriously,is there anyone out there that doesn't know smoking is bad for them? Do we really need our govt making laws concerning what we put in our bodies, what we eat,who should get a job,(here in Dayton Ohio the US Justice Dept made the city begin giving oral exams for police and fire positions because enough minorities couldn't pass the test,do we really want cops or firemen that can't read?)if you can get married, etc.?

[-] 1 points by wcedward (58) 12 years ago

exactly... it is not the government place for any of those things... unfortunately this movement is not about that : / or is it? does anyone really know?

[-] 1 points by din365 (36) 12 years ago

wcedward, you actually brought up some very valid points. If the "99%" are just as greedy, self-serving, and looking for handouts, then what have we accomplished? I see people like me who want the 1% to stop hoarding, stealing our money, stop handing out or giving our money to special interests, stop bailing out obviously failing businesses and banks, and to start hiring again and get people back to work.

And then I see the people who are mad and want a wealth-transferring socialist state, and take the 1% money for themselves, because if they can't get rich by sitting on their ass and collect welfare, then the ones who work for it can't have any money either. In other words, they want a free ride.

honestly, if you are one of those free loaders who wants a handout, what makes you any better than the 1%? You're acting like the same, selfish wall streeters you're trying to fight against, but only more childish. I want to get our countries back on track and get some money rolling in too, but I want to earn it and make the country better. not sit on my ass and let it fall apart.

You make some good points here in that the problem is us; those passive and silent in the midst of injustice. There are many principled folks in the movement that are sacrificing to keep the conversation going.
As the garden needs new seeds, first you need till the soil. The movement is, in effect tilling the crusty system of which we ALL are a part.

Agreed. There has never been a revolution where the victors avoided becoming exactly like the vanquished. The cause of social injustice and corruption is individual injustice and corruption.

In the entire history of mankind, the only that has ever been capable of humbling desire is religion. And they tithe...
