Forum Post: Reading this Forum, my thoughts

Posted 12 years ago on Oct. 6, 2011, 3:34 p.m. EST by shine (24)
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

I'll be brief:

I agree with this movement's initial beliefs, but this forum shows it has gone completely off track. Reading through this forum shows how many people troll forums such as this one all day. I commend jart for trying to get rid of some these, but the truth is that there will always be people who try to mess with your freedom of speech by meddling with your message or changing it entirely to fit their own agenda. I see it on the news. I see it online. I see it on this forum.

I still want to support this movement, but it has changed into something very political. I don't care what you think Presidents Obama and Bush did. We are occupying Wall Street for a reason. Remember that reason. Wall Street has too much power and no accountability. We can always vote a president out of office, but corporations are more permanent, control much more of our daily lives, and, since we are supposed to see them as people, are the most selfish, destructive, and unsympathetic people I know.

Sorry. Not that brief.

By the way, shine. I am going to respect your request that my comments be limited to Occupy Wall Street in content. Any future Geo-political comments that are NOT specifically related to Occupy Wall Street... well, I will reserve such comments for other blogs and boards. And, I do that out of respect to you.

Will you not meet me? Your passion is good, but a conversation in person would be better. If you are in NYC, I'm in LES.

Meet me.

[-] 1 points by patriot4change (818) 12 years ago

Don't worry. I'll find you. And I will be happy to introduce myself. As it stands, I am waiting and watching. Look for the black iron cross baseball cap in the march tonight. This is going to get bigger than you ever anticipated. :oD

Can't be there tonight. Work starts at 6:30. Tomorrow morning?

I believe you are here, but I've gone to your sites. I commend your trip from Omaha! I don't have that kind of money. Your facebook page says you like both parties and you like two different super PACs.

Are you a Ron Paul supporter? He is running as a Republican, you know. He has not left any party.

Can't be on here anymore. Read up about your exploits late tonight.

[-] 1 points by patriot4change (818) 12 years ago

Battery Park. South End. Me and 7 other IT-specialists are about to take this up a notch. I list both parties and super PACS on my Facebook in order to "attract" them to my anti Bi-Partisan protest. I'm sure I've pissed off a million or more Repubs and Dems. Ron Paul is a closet-Libertarian and consults with Ralph Nader on a weekly basis. I will introduce myself to most of you, after the 10th, when you all will be pleasantly surprised at how many people truly support you. Be patient...

Oh, OK. I'll just forget about the fact that Bush and Obama robbed the American People of $16 Trillion dollars over the last 10 years. And, then, they threaten the American People every day by saying, "The country might go Bankrupt this month." OK. I'll forget about the Political corruption... just so you can have your day on Wall Street. You go right ahead. You have your day on Wall Street. And we will all support you. But, mark my words, this movement will eventually focus equal attention on Washington D.C. and the snakes who call themselves Representatives. Ha! Representatives of WHAT ?!?!?

[-] 1 points by shine (24) 12 years ago

If you don't agree with how politicians run things, vote them out.

Do we have that luxury with corporations?

Also, this movement is called Occupy Wall Street. If you want to occupy Washington, by all means, do so. This forum belongs to the Occupy Wall Street movement.

[-] 1 points by patriot4change (818) 12 years ago

Interesting that you are so willing to disenfranchise yourself from Occupy Chicago (who is currently marching on the Federal Reserve); and Occupy San Francisco, Occupy Denver, Occupy Philadelphia and all the other Occupy movements who all believe that they are part of the GLOBAL movement of Occupy Together. Is that what you are saying? I am marching on Wall Street right now. Where are you? And who gave you the Right to separate Wall Street from all the other Occupy movements world-wide? Are you telling me that Occupy Wall Street is already an Elitist movement that does not accept the views of anyone outside their Elite group? If that is the case, then you have lost your battle before it has begun.

[-] 1 points by shine (24) 12 years ago

You disagreed with me, my good man. My opinions were rejected first.

Where was my acceptance? Hypocrisy.

If you are truly out occupying right now, you have amazing internet connection or phone coverage.

I couldn't post anything while I was out in the street.

[-] 1 points by patriot4change (818) 12 years ago

No. YOU are the hypocrite. I accept Occupy Wall Street... and all it's demands. You just can't accept the fact that Wall Street is only part of the problem. And with thousands of protesters in NYC, what makes you think I can't get Internet service in NYC just because YOU can't. You ever hear of a dedicated cell-coverage? Maybe you are just borrowing someone else's laptop to make your posts?

[-] 1 points by shine (24) 12 years ago

Demands? Really?

Who cares whether my laptop was borrowed? If I say I borrowed it, you will claim I am unemployed. If I bought it, I support the corporations.

If you are there, tell me where to meet you?

But remember we need to vote the politicians out since their actions and inactions have allowed such behavior to run rampant. Wall Street can't take the power just because they have the money, it still requires some person with responsibility to accept the bribe, turn the blind eye, etc. The link between money and our nation's leaders, I feel, is an appropriate target for reform.

[-] 1 points by shine (24) 12 years ago

Seriously speaking, politicians may be bought and sold, but right now, so are we. Our allegiance to corporations and our expectations that government has to do something is funny. We complain all day about our politicians and still buy from the same corporations that buy our politicians.

Our focus is Wall St. Our focus is the unchecked power. Our focus is on corporations that think they can buy politicians and the American people.

We vote and nothing changes. Cure the illness, not the symptoms.

Watch the news. Read the boards. Occupy Wall Street and Occupy Together is a GLOBAL movement now. It is Geo-political. It is Greece, Egypt, Libya and America. Over 100 Countries are now organizing their protests in similar fashion. To say that it is SOLELY about corporate greed on Wall Street is arrogant at best. Wall Street could be shut down tomorrow... and you'd still have these same protests all over the world-- FIGHTING the 1% Elite who want to turn the remaining 99% into slaves. Picture a pie-chart as an example. And Wall Street is just a piece of that pie. The corruption is GLOBAL. The greed and corruption is WORLD-WIDE!!

[-] 1 points by shine (24) 12 years ago

Dear Patriot,

I've read the boards. Have you reread your own posts? Your message changes too much for me to take you seriously.

[-] 1 points by patriot4change (818) 12 years ago

My message changes too much? Explain.

[-] 1 points by SamuelAdams (119) 12 years ago

We have differing perspective of how to resolve the same issue. I believe our leaders allowing these things to happen is what needs to change, I feel you believe the whole structure needs to change. No system is perfect and I feel ours is one of the best, however it has been countless laws, regulations, and inactions that have let corporations become the behemoths they are. If our leaders weren't giving them massive tax breaks, bailouts, subsidies, etc, they wouldn't have the levels of power they currently wield.

[-] 1 points by patriot4change (818) 12 years ago

BINGO.

[-] 1 points by shine (24) 12 years ago

I agree. Vote those politicians out.

Just remember: Corporations have immense power that we can't control. It seems as though our politicians can't control them either.

Have you seen the politicians that aren't bought out? I have. I have seen them speak and believed in their principles and saw nobody vote for them.

We are a movement to change Wall Street because it controls too many things in America, including politicians and the minds our people.

Remember the movement is called Occupy Wall Street. Pennsylvania Avenue has a sidewalk that you can stand on to protest the president.

We are Occupy Wall Street.

[-] 1 points by patriot4change (818) 12 years ago

You want to hear something 'ironic' shine? I am active on many different boards and blogs. And they are all talking about the issues that I am voicing to Occupy Wall Street. If Occupy Wall Street wants to be an 'island' unto themselves... an isolated 'bubble' that cannot accept the majority point of view. Then, like I said before, you are setting yourselves up to be the 1st Occupy movement that fails. And I know that you don't want that.

[-] 1 points by shine (24) 12 years ago

It so funny how all of a sudden I am the voice for this movement and you want to criticize me. You sound a lot like those cable news channels.

I am person out there too. Out there and upset. I don't spend my day on the forum or other forums. I spend it in the street.

Get off the forums. Join me. Please.

[-] 1 points by patriot4change (818) 12 years ago

OK, let's see. Let's count how many times I've said that I support the Occupy Wall Street movement? Is anyone out there who can count that up for me? 5? 10? 15? 20? And fortunately for you, shine, the entire WORLD is watching and supporting this movement. If you are one of the leaders, then by god I've got your back. The ONLY thing that I have consistently said is that I believe that FIRST we take Wall Street... THEN we take Washington D.C. So, I am waiting for October 10th when ANONYMOUS says that he is going to SHUT DOWN Wall Street entirely. Now THAT I want to see!

[-] 1 points by shine (24) 12 years ago

You a fag? If you are anon, then you know what that is.

Where are we meeting? You name the place.

[-] 1 points by SamuelAdams (119) 12 years ago

I understand you are Occupy Wall Street, but what are you going to do when the same slimy politicians are in charge of your wonderful new system? Just because you started in one place doesn't mean the ideas and goals don't reach further.

[-] 1 points by shine (24) 12 years ago

Reread the first line of my post. Let's vote them out. Hands down, agree.

I don't know what new system you are referring to. I believe this movement started out of frustration with corporations and their power. We are American and are allowed to come together in protest for something we feel is unjust. We don't propose new systems. We speak out.

If you speak out with us, join us.

[-] 1 points by SamuelAdams (119) 12 years ago

Then I misunderstood what you were saying, apologies. Being in its fledgling state, OWS has a lot of directions it seems to be going so when talking to people I can get confused about their intentions.

I'm just saying that this movement spills over into other movements and vice versa.

Go team?

[-] 1 points by shine (24) 12 years ago

Completely.

However, I'm a little scared about some people posting on here. Are you not?

[-] 1 points by SamuelAdams (119) 12 years ago

Sure but I'm also confused, bewildered, angry, sympathetic, frustrated, and many other emotions with people on this board, just like real life. What's your point?

[-] 1 points by yari (32) from Syracuse, NY 12 years ago

I agree, and I think that is where we should really focus our efforts. The SCOTUS Citizens United decision really opened my eyes to the disgusting level of protection the corporations are getting in this country.

[-] 1 points by patriot4change (818) 12 years ago

Exactly. Washington D.C. is PROTECTING and ENCOURAGING these corporations to commit "white-collar crime". They go hand-in-hand. The laws have been structured to ALLOW the corporations to do what they do!
