Forum Post: Question about posts

Why are posts now disappearing, I understand that they are troll posts but I am not a fan of any form of censorship.

Censorship always leads to abuse how long before the censor starts deleting posts they just don't agree with?

We should be using those troll posts as a platform to educate by linking to good posts where real discussion is going on.

If we continue to censor these troll posts it is just a matter of time before people start to say we are deleting posts because we have no good argument to defeat the point they made in the post, and because the post is gone we have no proof there was no good point being made.

We've gradually been trying to catch up and recruit more mods in light of all the traffic this forum has been receiving. Since we're just starting to catch up, it's probably best that I offer a little clarification about our moderation policy:

We have a very strict "safer space" policy. Reactionary posts and comments like racism, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, etc. will be removed on sight. We do not believe hate speech is a "right" and we care far more about welcoming marginalized people rather than letting oppressive douchebags spew their vitriol.

Any illegal content, doxing, etc. will also be removed.

As for trolling and derailment, we haven't formed a solid policy yet, but it's on the agenda.

Thank you for clarifying, I respect your right to maintain order on your forums, just as I would hope guests in my house would respect my right to maintain order there.

This forum has been put on Infowars and Alex Jones is saying you are all working for the new world order. The abusive posters are coming from Infowars.

I hopped over there and posted this it is currently awaiting moderation:

This is not the official list of demands there is no official list of demands. there has only been one official release from occupy wall street and even that is a work in progress.

Occupy Wall Street has no political leaning it is of the people by the people for the nation.

Here is a link to the only official release from Occupy Wall Street http://occupywallst.org/forum/.....ll-street/

At the end of that post after my edit mark is link to a, not official, working list of goals.

If you want to troll Infowars, go onto that site and call AJ a Jesuit shill, he hates that.

we should return the favor and hop over to info wars and fill the discussion with facts about OWS

[-] 1 points by riethc (1149) 12 years ago

Likely, yeah. What a moron AJ is.

Scroll down to the bottom of the forum… when it was first put up. The topics of how to provide for the physical occupation are there.

I think that anything not related to logistics of occupying wall street should be removed. Obviously that’s idealistic and not realistic.

Take your conversations to the park! Sitting at home in front of ones computer is just what the corporations want and not what this movement is about!

If you cant make it to the park give someone who is, a poster, an understanding of your ideas, a cup of coffee, or your love. We need to support those in the streetS!

I wish I could but I live in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, I can't make the trip and nobody I know can. I do plan on joining the Occupy Chicago this weekend.

The ones that said we should all get smallpox? Yea, that needed to be deleted.

I was just about to make this thread. I was having a discussion with a "troll" and now the thread is gone!

[-] 1 points by riethc (1149) 12 years ago

I agree, but there are physical limits on the server.

[-] 1 points by jart (1186) from New York, NY 12 years ago

We have a new server thanks to AlterNet and can pretty much handle as much traffic as people can throw at us :)

[-] 1 points by riethc (1149) 12 years ago

Cool. Glad to hear that. But why the deletions then?

[-] 1 points by jart (1186) from New York, NY 12 years ago

Because we're moderating...

[-] 1 points by riethc (1149) 12 years ago

lol, revg33k is posting his concern about deletions, and I think he has a good point about using "troll" posts as a platform for discussion. Also, the problem of censorship: one moderator's idea of a "troll" post may be another person's valid critique.

I know the problem of censorship on this site firsthand. I was banned from the chatroom for having opposing views with a moderator there. FYI. Buddha__ tends to ban people he disagrees with.

If they need more space then they should say something I have tons of drives sitting around SCSI, SATA, IDE, E-IDE you name it

[-] 1 points by AN0NYM0US (640) 12 years ago

Better Idea. Take the many many threads that only have links in them, collect those links, and post them in one thread. Then delete those.

i strongly disagree-

this is not a discussion group-

here we organize and educate -

if the post is not relevent to the issue at hand -

delete the post and if he continuse to post - ban him.

[-] 1 points by McKinnley (53) 12 years ago

I agree take your discussions verbally to the streets!
