"The necessaries of life occasion the great expense of the poor. They find it difficult to get food, and the greater part of their little revenue is spent in getting it. The luxuries and vanities of life occasion the principal expense of the rich . . . . It is not very unreasonable that the rich should contribute to the public expense, not only in proportion to their revenue, but something more than in that proportion."

"It must always be remembered, however, that it is the luxuries, and not the necessary expense of the inferior ranks of people, that ought ever to be taxed."

In this day and age the so called poor ( yes, I am familiar with the REAL poor) are nearly 50% of the people that don't pay any real taxes. That is fair? I pay taxes. Do you?

that don't pay any real taxes

First, they pay plenty of regressive taxes like sales tax, and it's actually about 20% of working-age adults that are too poor to pay income tax, and finally, most importantly, that they don't is a function/principle of progressive taxation.

So will you pay for your so called 20% so your government can provide and protect the.....people?

I would gladly pay 52% for a society like this:

But, as that's politically impossible because of folks like you, for now, I'll live with defending what little progressive taxation we have left.

Interesting.

You are certainly inviting conversation.

Edit: Fair enough, not my battle then.

Well....yes. Many of these liberals insist upon question basics of the Right(whatever that means to them) so I will question the basics of the Left(whatever that means anymore).

You know why ...

Because over 50% of the US public pay's no tax,

Yet ... 56% of the US public gets a check from the government,

OWS in its entirety only appeals to morons, who believe in re-distributive fairy god mother.

Saying the above I'm an anarchist for real, ... and a OWS leader, but I don't believe for one minute that stealing from other people and not working will help anyone.

Real anarchists don't steal, we work communally and share with others who endure the burden.

Click on an external link from OWS and where you came from, who you are, and all else is visible for tracking. You have been warned.

If people can't post their ideas in their own writing here, then maybe they don't have any ideas of their own.

That is impressively manipulative. Do not pray on the technological fears of people to prevent them from reading something. In fact... just to neuter this point entirely and render you moot, here is the content of the article copied into a pastebin page. So I have taken all the risk for everyone else who might be interested to see it on a more reputable site:

Also, to validate the safety of pastebin, I defer to an even better place:
