Anyone that has been in politics long enough to be a contender for president has already sold out to some degree. Additionally, liberal or conservative, ever person that has a personality strong enough that they believe they can lead a nation is likely to believe they have some kind of divine right impose their will on others for what they see as the good of the nation. People continue to vote for the lesser of two evils, even though it produces no real positive change.

That doesn't mean I'm personally willing to abandon the system, or that I'd vote for a republican just to make things so bad as to increase the chance for revolution. I see a better way to go then getting overly concerned about who is president (except for court appointments).

Joel Mathis, in the article you linked to, seems to come close to an effective solution without realizing it. Groups like the ACLU can certainly help but they don't make or enforce laws. We need to realize that the real power is in the legislature. If you are going to try to get change through the system it would seem to be most effective to do so through congress. This needs to be done from scratch, recruit people with high ideals that are new to politics, possibly from groups similar to those Mr. Mathis mentions.

Something like Occupy, with independent but like minded groups in many congressional districts is in a position to begin this "congressional revolution". Placing moral, principled, people in office is only half the battle however. Until the electorate realizes that they must stay informed and intelligently monitor their congress continually, we'll never really secure our freedoms.

Johan Galtung, a professor of peace studies, is rector of the TRANSCEND Peace University-TPU. He's the author of over 150 books on peace and related issues, including "50 Years-100 Peace and Conflict Perspectives". In this column, he writes that Julian Assange, Bradley Manning and Edward Snowden made history http://www.nationofchange.org/five-theses-about-assange-manning-snowden-1376577105 .

Obama is indeed a massive disappointment because so many of us invested him with so much 'hope' in the expectation of 'change' but really - we should have known better. So who are the 1% and Democrats lining up for 2016? Hillary Clinton it seems! I don't know whether to laugh or cry really. It does not even matter who the Republicans come with because .. who ever it is and whatever they say, will be so extreme as to make Hillary look almost palatable and that's probably the whole idea! Nothing worth fighting for ever came easy. OWS will be even more important then it is now.

Never Give Up On The 99%! Occupy The Issues! Solidarity.

He decided not to vote next time. Smart move.

It's been said a thousand times, but still true. The Democrats and Republicans can not fix our problems. Both are equally corrupt and tainted. We can't vote our way out of our problems. Some people say we can educate the masses, others say a violent revolution is the only way, and still others think a third party is the answer.

I don't know the solution. I'm starting to think we will have to wait for the system to crumble before we can fix anything.

[-] 4 points by Shule (2638) 11 years ago

Probably an all of the above approach is the way to go....

Right now there is no effective resistance against what evil oligarchy we have to deal with. The more fundamental problem is we are not even sure what this evil oligarchy that we are up against exactly is.

[-] 2 points by buccaneer (-2) from Jersey City, NJ 11 years ago

Let's all hope that there is no violence and that the system doesn't crumble

[-] 2 points by Shule (2638) 11 years ago

Its up to the 1%, not us.

they have all the pretend money

[-] 1 points by Shule (2638) 11 years ago

Yeh, I know. Unfortunately there are still too many people out there who do not understand its pretend, and chase after the stupid stuff.

Narley I have not always agreed with some of the comments that you have put up in the past, but on this one... you are very prescient in your observations, and I applaud you for them

You are not remarkably so though, 'prescient' that is... because I think it would be fair to say that the over-whelming majority of people in Occupy agree with you

WE all hope that it will not take a disaster or violence, before we come to a "solution," but reaching out, "educate[ing] the masses," resisting.. and looking for and implementing good 99% alternatives is a great start

Thanks Narley

Please prove your statement by finding a democratic governor as corrupt as this..

http://www.rickscottwatch.blogspot.com/

OWS, by the way helped oust a particularly repellant (R)epelican't.

BTW narley is pro "right to work" for less.

Half of all governors in Illinois have gone to jail since the 70s. Corruption doesnt care what silly letter is at the end of someone's name, and its pretty well balanced.

Its why Occupy and came about and civil unrest is high.

Once the last few (very loud ones) on each main stream party are done clinging on, the people will be able to unit and create their own future.

[-] 0 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

At least they have the presence of mind to do that.

Unfortunately. Other States don't.

http://www.rickscottwatch.blogspot.com/

You keep ignoring that simple fact.

I suppose that's why you have also habitually ignored the attack on civil liberties in Michigan as well.

As go the States, so goes the Nation.

The trend is not good. something else you've ignored.

Would you show what State was bought by a liberal "benefactor"?

back so soon?

With such an astute observational display of political malfeasance, one wonders where you were during the Cheney-Bush mad RW resurrection of the truly devastating Shock Doctrine Raygun years? Did ya miss 'em? Traveling/living abroad?

And where are you on the current massive crippling RepubliCon transgressions, sabotage, blackmail and hostage taking in congress; and the audacious erosion and attack on public safety and protective regulations, Voter, Civil and democratic rights by RepubliCon Governors in states like WI, MI, TX and NC? Not to mention the Roberts Kings-in-Robes SCOTUS!

Or are all those criminal activities and "betrayals" Obama is committing keeping you way too busy?

Have you noticed how the RW/Big Biz/1%/RepubliCons/Trolls and Zombies just can't ever manage to be honest, tell the truth, or just not lie and/or deceive all the time? Have you noticed that?

[-] 0 points by PerseidsGirl (-35) 11 years ago

The problem is, there is one hell of a police state in place. If the system "crumbles" we will probably be well and truly screwed. Better the enemy you know...

[-] 0 points by Narley (272) 11 years ago

Absolutely right. A failure of the system and\or collapse of society would be bad all around. Very bad. When the food chain stops delivering food to the market, if tap water stops running, when inflation is 1000% and when unemployment is 50%; people will resort to survival behavior.

Cold, scared, hungry people are dangerous. People will band together by race, culture and common belief for safety and security. Political and social ideologies become less important. People will follow whoever can provide safety and security. Think the 1930's Great Depression in triple magnitude.

I shake my head when I hear anarchists screaming to tear down the system. They have no clue what true anarchy would look like. It wouldn't be pretty. People will have to arm themselves for survival.

I hope it never happens, and those who want it to happen aren't thinking about how bad it would be.

Union YES!

[-] 0 points by PerseidsGirl (-35) 11 years ago

Yeah shoes, we already have the democraps in place...a stronger union is all that is missing to create a true leftwingtopia. True Nirvana

To be fair, it is time for unions to make a comeback. For decades I have thought of the labor/mngt thing as a pendulum that swings back and forth. The unions were at the apex of the swing in the 60's/early 70's and it drove that sucker back the other way. Today, unfortunately, the pendulum has swung much to far to the owners' side.

Too bad the happy medium is but just a short while during that pendulum's swingin

[-] -1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

I can see you really don't have the tools to discuss unions.

Simple question.

Did the UAW destroy the "big three"?

Good link, on how the right-wing Republican agenda is destroying our country, although I only glanced at it

I did especially like the part where they asked people if they liked being oppressed in a whole plethora of ways. As you know that kind of oppression is present in our jobs, schools and all sorts of places....

Since you did not dispute my link or my thread, I have to assume that you too now believe that both parties stink...Right? Please correct me if I am wrong in my assumption....ok?

[-] 0 points by shoozTroll (17632) 11 years ago

Not until you prove it.

Until you do, you're the one making assumptions.

Indeed, your whole lead up to your link is rife with them.
