Do we need moderation to protect us from certain words and/or ideas?
Or, as mature adults, do we possess the intellectual tools necessary to make our own decisions as to what comments and postings we want to read?
Another possibility is to have a feature which allows people to turn moderation on or off. In the on mode, what the moderators have banned appears banned, in the off mode you can still see everything.
What's your choice?
Yes, please moderate this forum to protect me from comments and postings which could hurt me.
No, please do not moderate this forum. I am a responsible adult and don't need the help of a moderator to decide what I should or should not read.
Please provide both options. There might be children here who need moderation. And, there are also people who would like to see and read all viewpoints.

For problem solving posts, moderation is a good thing to keep ideas moving forward, and achieve something.
1 jerk can essentially sabotage ideas and discussion veto ideas by virtual filibuster here, posting illogical nonsense.

It isn't any individual post or idea that requires moderation. Where some people seem incapable of either adult or intelligent behavior is in their replies.

Why wouldn't you want libertarians, members of the Tea Party, and Republicans on this site? It is open to people of all political affiliation, and we need to discuss Occupy with all kinds of people if we hope to grow and form the 99%. You won't create a new world by preaching to a small choir. You'll have to develop interpersonal skills in order to properly debate in adult fashion with people who disagree with you on certain issues if you want Occupy to succeed.
Let them come! The more the merrier! I believe in the Occupy idea so much that I believe many right wingers can be made to understand and support the movement. However, we need to treat them like mature adults for this to be possible. You shouldn't use derogatory terms like teabagg(R)s or libe(R)tarians. You need to grow up a little.
The key is to properly debate issues like mature adults, not like confrontational teenagers.

From my experience on various forums, trolls are usually the ones that make easy, and baseless personal attacks. Attacks on the poster, not the contents of the comments. Attacks which are based on assumptions and fantasy, and not on evidence.
