Forum Post: plutocracy

We cannot rescue our democracy from the plutocracy which now exists without a change in our campaign laws. All campaigns should be publically financed and there should be a time limit on campaigns. No other country has to endure the marathon campaigns we suffer. Of course accomplishing this would require a Constitutional Amendment, since the Supreme Court has seen fit to declare that money is speech and cannot be restricted. Only the members of Congress could accomplish this; what hope do we have? You would think that they would welcome not having to spend such a large percentage of their time fundraising, but I am afraid they like the present system. Still, I think this is a demand that should be made.
