Forum Post: Please Never Use Self-Checkout, and leave merchandise and carts where you are.

Please refrain from using self-checkout, re-stocking merchandise that you decided not to buy, or pushing grocery carts to inconveniently located cart storage areas. In case you hadn't considered this, please note that when you do any of the above, you are reducing employment for somebody who needs it. You are not saving yourself any money, you are only lining the pocket of the store owners. Price competition with other stores is what saves you money when prices aren't fixed. Please note that bar codes enabled mass merchandising on today's scale and put thousands, maybe millions, of checkers and stock workers out of jobs. It's probably too late to do anything about that other than bring your Sharpies to the store for a little good clean fun.

All of those things you talked about, especially self check outs, is about technology taking the place of humans, and it happens constantly. 100 years ago farming made up a majority of the work force, now farming only makes up 1-2% of the work force and we produce an enormous amount of food.

Should we go back to plowing fields with Oxen shoulder blades so we can employ more people?

I far far prefer to use the robotic cashier instead of the brain dead cashier's they hire. It's usually faster for me to get out of there too.

Yes, brother. To voice our point; to ensure that they get the message, we should stop doing anything that facilitates the 1% to stay blind. But we must make sure to not fall into the blaming of inanimate objects perpetually. We must stay focus on our effort to debunk and exile greed from all aspect of living.

Technology are not to be blame for our wrong-doings. We must ensure we don't digress by blaming the tools at our dispose. Doing so you will leave open the door to greed again. Tools are just tools; develop by us to facilitate our way of living. Yes, to abuse the use of those tools inevitably results in the abuse of our brothers, but to put the blame on the tool is a digression!

We must stay focus on what it really is to be done: Re-educate our business people to make them understand that immorality just like it is wrong in their personal life it is even wronger in their business life. Again our purpose must be to debunk and exile greed from our way of living. As simple as that!

When you shop at small locally own grocery store you just don't feel this angst. They usually pay their employees more equitably as well. Stop shopping at major chain stores and you will feel better.

Spill things on the floor and litter in the parking lots too, that also gives people jobs to do.

Good thread about this: http://occupywallst.org/forum/why-automation-needs-to-be-central-the-the-convers/

I think the higher unemployment we have, the better things will be for us since more people will focus on the real issue.

I do not use them. I would rather deal with a human. They either get this or they do not. If they refuse to do this then they lose my business.

"Lining the pocket of the store owners"? If they don't make a profit, guess what? No business, no employees.

Are you nuts?

I only use it when I am buying one or two items.
