I think the best place to start in terms of trying to figure out what OWS is all about is to go to the Declaration of the Occupation of New York City which can be found on this website and elsewhere on the web, It is the only political document that OWS has produced and it is only 600 words, Beyond that I think there is really no substitute to spending a day at an occupation or GA. If you work take a week end and go to the occupation or GA nearest you, That will answer all of your questions much better than any e-mail interchange ever could,

Well I dunno - but this is my own list, and I am a member of the Occupy movement. Some of the issues contained on this list have been items that the Occupy Burlington [Vermont] organization has taken up:

  • No downsizing the Postal Service

  • No KeyStone Pipeline

  • two step approach to the issue of national debt:

    • short term: end bushite tax breaks and corporate welfare

      • long term: restructure / simplify the tax code so that it is competitive for businesses to do business and keep their money here; and pays down the debt, and keeps social security solvent
  • end debate over entitlements I'm sick of hearing about it as if it were dirty. Forget privatization of social security and just shoot the next bastard who suggests otherwise [speaking for myself of course.]

  • public health care - forget the option part.

  • We need an energy policy uninfluenced by fossil fuel industry, one that takes into account the fact of global warming, and institutes a NASA like approach to solving both our need for energy and the need to reduce atmospheric carbon

  • No to internet censorship in any form

  • If they engaged in fraud - they see the judge, and the sentencing better be in line with the crime, and had better include serious restitution

  • End the foreclosures.

  • End the philosophy of a deregulated economic system - from the Universities to the policy makers

  • End corporate personhood

  • campaign finance reform - Sanders Amendment:

  • end the two party political system

  • quit fucking around with the issue of terrorism - it's a crime, unless you happen to catch them on an actual battlefield - and if it is a crime, treat them in accordance with our criminal laws. No more indefinite detention

  • Close Gitmo - we've got large pens practically empty in the mid west. I'm sure they can handle it. Stop fucking around.

  • Amended: I would like to see energy production, telecommunications, and the economic infrastructure, all secured in public, rather than private, hands.

  • Amended: we need to provide stiff and compelling sanction to corporations that engage in disinformation - as with the tobacco industry before and the fossil fuel industry now [and for the past 10-20 years]

If we can't accomplish these things, the federal government will lose all credibility with the people.

There ya have it, my want list. I may add to it. We'll see.

Troll, trying to smear OWS?

[-] 1 points by TutorOfPlato (65) from Airway Heights, WA 12 years ago

That's a little bit over the top... don't you think? I just want to see the middle class grow again... the middle class has dropped below the size of the lower class, or they're about to.... hey P.S. the U.S. is on the verge of a financial crisis... tel your friends... if you want to keep safe, get your money away from the government...

Dear Mr. Dog:

We are sorry to inform you that your application to be a part of the Comedy Central team has been turned down by our expert committee consisting of members representing the states of Missosuri, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Georgia.

All the other southern states represented on our commitee wanted you drawn and quartered immediately but reason prevaled.

You have a good day, now, wontcha.

LoL!

mus bee they din like ma Miz Sara impersonation

[-] 0 points by ronjj (-241) 12 years ago

They though it was kinda funny - Miz Sara is calling for your "junk" in a drawstring bag.

We are doing everything we can to keep her calm - but you know Miz Sara.

[-] 1 points by ZenDogTroll (13032) from South Burlington, VT 12 years ago

LoL.

Next you'll be seeing my picture appear on the internet with a scope sight bulls eye super imposed over it.

I don't care. Bring it biyatch!

[-] 0 points by ronjj (-241) 12 years ago

NO, not really, Miz Sara has already made the "seeing" thing pretty clear to all of us - You should see those fingernails of hers'.

I just expect that unless it is an 'open casket' type service, we won't be seeing you round much, at least that is the impression we get from Miz Sara.

I will tell you this, those jokes going around about the great things that Chuck Norris can do is what Miz Sara does for warmups before her workout every morning out on the concrete patio which is now all bent out of shape and twisted around backwards.

LoL!

I used to like Chuck Norris - not that he's a great actor, and compared to Jackie Chan not that great a martial artist either - but he is definitely way better than I ever was.

Then I found out he's a repelican.

I mean, really. There is no excuse.

[-] 0 points by ronjj (-241) 12 years ago

I know - it is so sad that those repelicans will just let anyone into their ranks these days - they are just getting way too liberal, next thing you know, they will be the liberal ones and the demo-whatevers will be the right wingers.

It is getting more and more difficult to find a group in this country with any class left. I thought that I might find a little in this OWS thing but I got stuff on my tennies that isn't going to come out, ever.

[-] 1 points by ZenDogTroll (13032) from South Burlington, VT 12 years ago

well that's what you get for letting your tennies hang out in public like that -

put those nasty things away . . .

Waste Management said they wouldn't take them. Left them on the lawn with some kind of a yellow tag attached. But the prairie dogs in the front lawn did pack up and move out last night, which is a good thing.

[-] 1 points by TutorOfPlato (65) from Airway Heights, WA 12 years ago

what? could you explain what you are saying? because that makes no sense... what? I don't really like banks...
