Forum Post: Please Enlighten Me As To Your Cause

I'm just wondering if someone deeply involved in OWS can tell me in a few sentences, what Occupy Wall Street is FOR. I understand that it is anti-bank and anti-corporation, but what is the group for?

it's not just anti-corporation but it's anti the collusion of the government with the corporations to loot the country. Banks are taking advantage more than anyone else.

This is a movement of the people, for the people.

Those Patriots flooding cities all over this country come from all political and ethnic backgrounds. They believe in what made this country great, and in it's time of need have and will continue to react, even if you choose not:

When others oppose this movement, show them this...

The last sentence is what OWS is all about...

Peace, equality, accountability...... we all have a right to clean water, air, food shelter and healthcare, it should be illegal to tamper with those few things and make it into a profit gaining system.....plus, our currency should be a government issued, debt free, non profit situation.........Lincoln.....Greenbacks......free from the tyranny of the British empire.....

OWS is not anticorporation and anti-banks. It is against corporations that abuse their power and are infiltrating our government. It is against the abuse of the monetary system that the federal reserve is responsible for. We have a debt based privatized monetary system that is not in the constitution. The abuse of Wall Street, the federal reserve, and the government has caused our US dollar to decrease in value drastically over the past 14 years.

Propose a bill to end the patriot act.

Propose a bill to end massive contributions from lobbyists, unions, and corporate influences. The "supreme" court ruled McCain-Feingold unconstitutional. Obviously the supreme court is corrupt. They claimed that "McCain-Feingold" denied "free speech" even though 1: Money isn't free and 2: 100% of US citizens still would have had freedom of speech and the ability to contribute to campaigns. So how was the supreme court able to say it suppresses free speech? Another fact, a lot of corporations are owned through many investors. Sometimes these investors are foreigners. I didn't know foreigners in other countries were allowed to participate in our government. The government is supposed to be governed by it's people. I feel like most members of the government have never read the constitution.

I'd say propose a bill to nationalize the federal reserve but that bill has already been created and is being reviewed by the Financial Institutions and Credit Committee. Look up The National Emergency Employment Defense Act of 2011.

All these rich people keep telling us that our country is in massive debt... all the while they keep making more money. These rich people are members of congress and the president.

"Both parties are rotten - how could they not be, given the complete infestation of the political system by corporate money on a scale that now requires a presidential candidate to raise upwards of a billion dollars to be competitive in the general election?"

The about page is set up by who ever runs this site. As OWS is a leaderless (directionless) movement, then all issues are up for debate. If one member is for capitalism, then OWS is for it. If one is for communism, then OWS is for it. This directionless aspect of OWS is why it will fail.

For starters: Getting the money out of politics. Find a way to lessen the huge amount to which the political system is beholden to banking and business interests. (Repealing Citizens United with an amendment seems right) Make sure that the banking system isn't in a position to crash the economy the way it has this most recent time. (Glass-Steagal seems like a good place to start) Income inequality has driven the disappearance of the middle class, which helped lead to the Depression last time and will deepen the pain of this recession this time. We need to find a way to make the American dream possible again. This one is far harder.

OWS is aimed to fix this terrible capitalist system by growing the government HUGE.

OWS will make sure everyone gets paid the same amount (or nearly) no matter what they do for a living (or don't do).

OWS will ban private property - it all belongs to the DEMOCRACY so that the politicians can distribute every crumb equally.

Except to those who are more equal than others, of course.

That's the gist of it when you really nail these folks down to the tiny details. It sounds much prettier and nicer in their general terms, but when they have to define the finer points, this is what you get...

my point is that they are now willing to understand. Not everyone watches the News. A person in state, let's say Montana, who doesn't watch tv might know nothing about this. They do not have any large occupy movements in Montana and not everyone watches the "news."

That's my point. I just don't like when people rush to assumptions about people they don't know. Assuming this person is ignorant to information is no different than when people call me a filthy hippie. Assumptions lead to the dark side of the force.
