...when you realize this person thinks its okay that 1 in 7 Americans are on food stamps, that one-half of Americans earn less than $26,000 per year, that 49 million have no health insurance, that wages are at an all time low while corporate profits are at an all time high, that labor is valued unfairly and inhumanely, that the U.S. drops drones on innocent people, that our government is bought and paid for by the wealthy and corporations, that fear-mongering instead of love is the way to go, etc.

. . . they call you an asshole, and then, when you point out the failings of their argument, they complain you're engaging in ad hominem.

[-] 3 points by therising (6643) 11 years ago

Exactly :)

. . . when everything they blame on you or progressivism is a projection of conservative crimes and/or self destructive fatal flaws of con character.

[-] 2 points by bensdad (8977) 11 years ago

when they use name calling and personal attacks

when they respond to facts with generalized attacks

when they make complaints without any solutions

when they seem to be persuing impossible goals
such as ending the Fed in stead of real goals such as G-S

they divert attention from the ONE attainable goal that is at the heart
of virtually everything - capitalism owns our democracy

[-] 2 points by therising (6643) 11 years ago

Right on. Great list.

[-] 2 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 11 years ago

when they dedicate their time to accusing you of being a "right wing wacko" or a "wacko liberal" for speaking out against war and the banks.

[-] 3 points by therising (6643) 11 years ago

Yeah, they don't like attacks on war and banks. Funny how those two are related.

[-] 2 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 11 years ago

Often directly.

[-] 1 points by therising (6643) 11 years ago

Yup :). The award-winning film "Why We Fight" (which you may have already seen) does an incredible job laying that out.

I have this saying, it is:

"THERE IS NO TROLLING IN POLITICS"

In a realm where telling people that "corporations are people", telling women how to discern whether their rape was "legitimate", or even ...honestly, that there is a possibility that a perfectly sane, reasonable, and law abiding gun owner should have less overall rights to have that gun because of the gun wielders that don't exhibit that same set of fine qualities they do [...which I've been guilty of doing for the last 24 hours], what is trolling and what is politics?

...there is no trolling in politics.

[-] 1 points by stevebol (1269) from Milwaukee, WI 11 years ago

....when they can't accept Occupy for what it is. They say Occupy should do this-do that. Blah, blah.

[-] 1 points by therising (6643) 11 years ago

Oh yeah. Pretty common.

They leave about 100 replies to comments that werent aimed at them.

They tell you that you are a Republican because you think the Democrats are liars.

They tell you your city is a "Tampon" and then insult the handful of us that tried like hell to get as many to the rallies as humanely possible, even spending a nice chunk of the pathetic amount of money we make.

They refuse to accept that Occupy is a broad based group of youths whose main gripe is "The shit is fucked up". v

They loved you when you were bashing and protesting Bush, and now hate you when you do the same about Obama.

When you acknowledge the numbers are way down and the reasons need to be addressed, you are attacked.

They assume that because you think the SEC and FCC are doing a pathetic job, it means you want them eliminated.

The list goes on and on..... Dems trolling Republican sites, Republicans trolling Dem sites, and then Occupy trying to cut through all the bullshit and get some real change.

you can't "go after a corporation" but a politician can

why would a politician care what you have to say, if you never talk to them

corporations work for money

politicians work for us, our will is expressed through the ballot box

if we lay off the politicians, they will surly lay off the corporations, after all why piss people off when there's nothing in it for you? politicians seem to think that way anyway

and damn I wish somebody would pay me to do this

[-] 2 points by therising (6643) 11 years ago

I agree about going after both politicians and corporations nonviolently with direct action etc. what I disagree with is limiting our attention to that and taking the heat off the real culprits (corporations and the 1%). For example, I definitely think we should take the following nonviolent action in DC to pressure politicians to create guardrails for corporations: http://www.occupywallst.org/forum/you-may-have-seen-this-list-of-8-practical-goals-b/ and I'd like to see us push from tnside and out just as those who fought in the civil rights movement would.

they ask for money like a Nigerian con artist.

[-] 1 points by therising (6643) 11 years ago

Haven't seen that on here yet :)

The old standbys are: Pettifogging/exaggeration: (General witch hunting from Clinton to Benghazi) "Clinton was totally dishonest and the worst POTUS ever because he lied about getting a blowjob in the WH!" And Recrimination/projection: "Obama is putting us in debt, losing our jobs, and ruining the economy!" These most often bleed into each other.

Asking a really dumb question that is obviously leading to an equally dumb "point." "So, why do you think I should have to pay for Janeane Garofalo's Vaginal Damns? Hah?"

False equivalency. "Cons and Dems are the same." Obama is just like Bush." "Blackwater -- Solyndra."

Feigning progressive/liberal and advocating a strict avoidance of any real political solution ~ like getting/keeping/kicking Norquist-treasonous, 1%-worshiping, government-saboteuring RepubliCons out of office!!

So many more, never ceasing to amaze with utter speciousness and/or ignorance.

[-] 2 points by therising (6643) 11 years ago

Yup. You got 'em.

So, since I don't deny that many congress people in this congress are corrupted by outside corporate influence, under your definition, I'm a genuine participant. Thanks.

[-] 0 points by Theeighthpieceuv8 (-32) from Seven Sisters, Wales 11 years ago

What these links indicate is a circle of corruption in which the Dems are directly involved.

[-] 4 points by therising (6643) 11 years ago

I think you're inadvertently doing something a paid or unpaid troll would do (change the subject to Dem vs. Rep.). You're ignoring the point that we agree corporations have gone after members of both parties. The corporatists who have temporarily hijacked our great republic are a vicious bunch. Luckily we, the 99% actually hold the power :)

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

At this point in time - YES - We have not been shut out - and we are making moves to reclaim the application of power to reclaim government and restore it to proper function/focus/purpose/action.

With Article V we can control all the offices AND remove corporate personhood. There is no other procedure with enough authority. Posted w/iPhone.

[-] -2 points by rayolite (461) 11 years ago

Chicken & egg. We care about the office and how it observes our rights by NOT allowing corporations to violate laws & conspire. It's the office not the politician. Posted w/iPhone.
