If you think about it, much of our spending goes towards consumer electronics. I heard someone refer to it as the last thing that people truly needed, yet we keep on wanting more and newer gadgets, so I guess we will continue to buy them far into the future. My suggestion then would be that we should manufacture ALL of our electronics in the US and provide high-paying jobs. We should take national pride in the ipad and iphone for instance and manufacture it solely in our country. We have a great opportunity for this to revitalize a large part of our country. We just need to ban the imports of electronics and do it ourselves, no matter what it does to other countries, even if they can still produce it. Let's take control again.

Well in the long run, sure. The US is going to have to start manufacturing EVERYTHING, all over again.

In the short run, I would suggest that you, your group, your family, your friends, and even your enemies start growing all their own food. NOW.

At the moment, the food pipelines leading from the corporate factory farms and banana republics to your supermarket shelves is long and thin. It may happen within the year that the food might stop coming. When that happens, all hell breaks loose.

You've seen crowds of people at Wal-mart trying to kill each other over a $2 waffle iron? Pretty soon people will be doing that over the last can of cat food.

I recommend the 'Square foot gardening' method. Everyone can grow all the food they need in about 27 square feet...which does not have to be consecutive. If you live in an apartment, you can grow food in your windowsill. You can grow food on your rooftop, your front lawn, your backyard, your driveway. Grow food in containers and pots.

As for China and other debtors, I imagine they will soon start seizing publicly owned assets in the USA like highways, hospitals, schools, libraries. We've had that happen in Canada already, when a highway paid for with tax dollar money was sold to a company from Spain. It's now the most expensive toll highway in North America.

I like your suggestion, but at the same time, I think we should all just stick our collective heads in the sand and pretend that it won't happen while working feverishly towards on a progressive agenda, since, as we know, a lack of hope fuels despair, which drains our spirits and determination. But, in the event that you're right and I'm wrong, a lack of food would naturally be disastrous and my proposal for optimistic ignorance would leave many people unprepared.

Well, if I am wrong and you are right, (i.e. nothing happens) you are still growing your own vegetables and saving money on groceries.

It's a lot easier to start growing your own food than making your own smart phones, and ultimately more fundamental.

And while we're at it, tell China to eat part of the debt we owe them for stealing our intellectual property and making our goods for us that we designed.
