QUOTE "What do you want: what are you protesting for/against?

We are not merely a protest movement. What we communicate is not just outrage, but a full-on call to action. Further, we do not have one or two simple demands (though many demand them of us). We are a movement which does call for accountability, however – accountability to ourselves and to our country.

We must be accountable to ourselves. First and foremost, we are calling upon ourselves, and upon one another, to wake up and employ our power as citizens: to participate rather than observe, to raise our strong voices together, rather than complaining feebly in isolation. We cannot ‘whine’ about the injustices wreaked upon us if we have been complacent and silent in the face of these injustices. We must take responsibility for our own futures – and here at Liberty Plaza, that is exactly what we are doing, by modeling the kind of society in which everyone has a right to live. Here in Liberty Plaza, having lost our sense that we live in a democracy, we are reclaiming its practice.
Our government must be accountable to us, and corporations must be accountable to the government. We are saying definitively: We no longer live in a democracy, and we refuse to accept that. We seek an end to the collusion between corrupt politicians and corporate criminals, as democratic and capitalist institutions have become conflated. As such we must see major advances in the arena of the relationship between corporations, and people, on par with the amendments which outlawed slavery and assured civil rights to all people regardless of race, sex, or class.

Good Neighbor Policy

Following respectful and good-faith dialogue with members of the local community which has been rebuilding since the trauma of 9/11, Occupy Wall Street hereby announces the following Good Neighbor Policy:

Zero tolerance for violence or verbal abuse towards anyone;
Zero tolerance for abuse of personal or public property.
OWS will limit drumming on the site to 2 hours per day, between the hours of 11am and 5pm only.
OWS encourages all participants to respect health and sanitary regulations, and will direct all participants to respectfully utilize appropriate off-site sanitary facilities.
OWS will display signage and have community relations and security monitors in Liberty Plaza, in order to ensure awareness of and respect for our guidelines and Good Neighbor Policy.
OWS will at all times have a community relations representative on-site, to monitor and respond to community concerns and complaints.

Finally, someone who makes sense. I applaud you for having the guts to say it the way it really is, and has become. Every OWSer needs to reread the above policy .

Just mark this in your little book:

The OWS movement is getting very little attention in the media today. It has completely disappeared as an article in our daily paper. HOWEVER

There is to follow many articles about the OWS movement, how it began, how it progressed, how it went astray, and how it ended. These stories are in the process of being developed today as notes are taken, interviews are conducted and information is gathered. It will be very interesting reading for the future of both the protesters, the followers, the tag-a-longs, and the naysayers alike. Your pictures will appear in articles yet to be written, and it won't be floating around to be deleted on any internet posts - it will be in hard print form for all to read, study, and learn from. You think this is "bad", wait until the entire story is written.
