Remember Citizen Koch? The hard-hitting documentary the Koch brothers blocked from PBS? It's launching nation-wide in theaters across the country.

Click here to find a showing near you!

If there's no screening in your area and you'd like to organize one, email our Online Campaign Manager Reuben Hayslett at rhayslett@workingfamilies.org.

Citizen Koch tells the story of how Citizens United opened the flood gates for millionaires and billionaires to spend hand-over-fist in local elections. The documentary was slated to air on PBS -- but fearing backlash from multi-million dollar donor David Koch, PBS refused the air it.

Thanks to supporters like you who petitioned PBS and crowd-funded the film's production costs on Kickstarter, Citizen Koch is getting the national debut it deserves. And we want to make sure you have front row seats to see it!

Find a local showtime to see Citizen Koch in theaters this summer!

If there's no screening in your area and you'd like to organize one, email our Online Campaign Manager Reuben Hayslett at rhayslett@workingfamilies.org.

Don't forget the popcorn!

Excellent---Getting The Truth Out.

[-] 4 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

It may not be showing everywhere ( yet ) - but - it looks like it is gonna show in many hard hit places. It is a good start.

[-] 6 points by Nevada1 (5843) 9 years ago

Regarding the criminal elite, their criminal comfort zone is about awareness rather than space. They try to operate secretly, but when enough oppressed people become aware, they will have regrets.

[-] 4 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

The criminal elite are pushing for their own demise as their actions increasingly push for the demise of all life on the planet - so they rail against any thing that openly shows their operational insanity - while at the same time becoming more blatant in their pursuit of death by profit.

Insane - IS - as - Insane - DOES.

Hard to miss - it being so large and obvious and strangely not a passive target - but one that screams to be seen and shot.

[-] 5 points by GypsyKing (8708) 9 years ago

It's really amazing that PBS chickened out and wouldn't air this.

[-] 2 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

Amazing? Sad! Can't trifle with the money. So much for being for the public.

Good to see you stop by.

[-] 4 points by GypsyKing (8708) 9 years ago

Yeah, PBS is just sad now. The "moderation" of the debates by Jim Lehrer was just pathetic. I never saw such a gutless performance. They are more cowed than even mainstream for profit media.

Good to see you again. I'll try to stop by again once in awhile. It's been a long, strange trip.

Pathetic? You're being much too kind!

Good to see you, Old Boy.

Are you back to help fight against the both-samers and Unicorn chasers who think Voting is a sin, instead of our only strength in a democracy? Against those who don't realize Voting is a direct defiance to Citizens United? Against those who work secretively (false-flag) to discourage and smear unity, progress and democracy? If not, JiffySquid says go back to rehab, meds, or whatever it was. DKa is a gun nut.

[-] 6 points by GypsyKing (8708) 9 years ago

Well, I don't know how much I'll be able to be here, but I will say right now that voting appears to be the only chance we have left of turning the mess that was America around and ever seeing better days again.

I'm working on a new novel and a political campaign at the moment, so I doubt I'll be here much.

I would like to thank everyone who has been here right along for legitimate reasons (you know who you are). You are the real patriots. My hat is off to all of you. Sae La Vie.

No, you ''Have a Koch & a smile'' !!! Wtf does that question mean, or allude to ?!! I can not always decipher all your random comments and links you know but still you will get upset if I say you are maybe just attention seeking again, lol ! Maybe you'll be able to find some more sense here now :

Great article.

From it:

"A persistent racism can also be seen in the attack on voting rights laws, the mass incarceration of African-American males, and the overt racism that has become prominent among right-wing Republicans and Tea Party types, most of which is aimed at President Obama"

Sorry you can't understand my question.

How about this one?,

Should we vote out Koch supporters?

Simple enough?

Sure, I understand, No reason for you to scream it out loud and proud.

keep it to yourself. I will say it enough for both of us.

Vote out Koch supporting polls!!

And some reading/action options that you can peruse/join quietly without stating on the record, y'know.

America has a Koch problem—and it's coming to a head this November.

Right-wing oil billionaires Charles and David Koch are two of the wealthiest people in the world.1 They don't hesitate to buy politicians and policies that advance their own business interests. Thanks to the Supreme Court's Citizens United and recent McCutcheon decisions, there's virtually no limit on what they can spend.

The Koch brothers are gearing up to pour at least $125 million into November's elections—backing candidates who'll vote to decimate Social Security, overturn voting rights, block any shot at curbing global warming, and make it impossible for people to get health care or earn a decent wage.2

In order to neutralize the Koch brother's pernicious impact on our democracy, we must first understand it. That's why MoveOn members are gathering on Saturday, June 28 and Sunday, June 29 at hundreds of "America Has a Koch Problem" movie parties to watch Koch Brothers Exposed: 2014 Edition, the critically-acclaimed new release from our friends at Brave New Films. After the film, we'll begin planning a powerful nation-wide campaign to end the Koch brothers' toxic influence on our democracy.

Will you host an America Has a Koch Problem movie party in Brooklyn on Saturday, June 28 or Sunday, June 29? After you plan your event, we'll mail you a free, limited-edition DVD!

Yes, I'd like to host an America Has a Koch Problem movie party.

Charles and David Koch—alone—were responsible for one quarter of all the private money spent to influence the 2012 election.3 Yet even with all their money, things didn't turn out exactly as Charles and David thought they would in 2012. The progressive community's field efforts were stronger and more strategic, our message to the American people more compelling.4 Now, as the Kochs scramble to figure out what went wrong, they're feeling the wear and tear that comes from an American public fighting hard for the future of our nation.5

It's the perfect time to turn up the heat.

We'll sit down at the end of June to watch Koch Brothers Exposed so that we can stand up together and fight back. Because when we fight back, we win.

Hosting a movie screening is easy and rewarding. We'll provide an online guide, invite MoveOn members in your area (and help you recruit other folks to join), and supply you with creative ideas for effective local Koch-free organizing.

Will you join me and host an America Has a Koch Problem movie party in Brooklyn on June 28 or 29?

Yes, I'd like to host an America Has a Koch Problem movie party on June 28 or 29.

I know this work can feel daunting. But for the first time, the problem of big money and corporate corruption in U.S. politics has a public face: the Koch brothers, two of the wealthiest Americans who are fueling the demise of everything that you and I—and millions like us—cherish about our nation.6

That's why, across the country, courageous people are fighting back!

• Just last week, hundreds of MoveOn members and allies in New York took this fight to David Koch's front door, staging a bold block party where they projected Koch Brothers Exposed on the side of his swanky Park Avenue apartment building.7

• In Wake County, North Carolina, Americans for Prosperity (AFP), a Koch-driven political advocacy organization, led a public school board takeover which effectively ended student busing and resegregated the schools. Thousands of parents and students fought back and voted out the conservative slate!8

• In Detroit, Michigan, community members and legislators fought off a Koch-funded effort that would have cut the pensions of Detroit workers and sold off the city's precious art collection. Community organizing focused a harsh, national spotlight on the Kochs.9

We're building a diverse and dynamic movement to beat back the Kochs' ultra-conservative ideology—and this summer, we're stepping it up.

Click here to host an America Has a Koch Problem movie party on June 28 or 29.

This summer, we'll tell the Koch brothers that America cannot be bought.

Charles and David Koch will become the high-stakes poster boys for the corrosive impact of money in politics. MoveOn members like you will make sure that politicians who take Koch funds feel the burn that comes from toxic money. Together, we'll save the Senate in 2014 and lay the ground for dramatic wins in 2016.

Here's to making summer 2014 a time Charles and David Koch—and all of us—will never forget.

Thanks for all you do,

–Garlin, Victoria, Jess, Kate, and the rest of the team

The vote is nothing but the tally of all of the work the previous two years in terms of electoral politics.

Amendments can be done by the people, two years to put together amendments and get signatures, but we do a very very poor job at that.

Politicians could be developed organically, but usually are not, in most cases being lawyers and financials taking a stab at it because their friends think they would be good.

This 2014 mid term election we will see what kind of a job the people in this country did since 2012 in creating their visions, creating their leaders of choice and creating their proposed amendments.

What state do you live in?

[-] 8 points by GypsyKing (8708) 9 years ago

Well, they beat the crap out of us on the streets and the ditherfuck middle Americans thought it was amusing! WTF are we supposed to do now??? It's either vote of rebel. Rebellion would only succeed in getting a few million people slaughtered for nothing. Why, because the ditherfuck middle Americans would just find it amusing!

Yeah, get involved in Politics! Push the Democrats to the left and the fucking Republicans into the gutter! Make democracy work, force it to work, occupy the offices of every one of your closest representatives and force them to do what you demand. Do it, or accept that the life span of humanity is nearing its end. That is the goddamned unvarnished fucking truth, my friend.

[-] -1 points by draguartism (19) from Brooklyn, NY 9 years ago

No need for harsh language.

Have you tried rebelling in a positive way? Getting together with others to create co-op businesses. Building a tiny home to save. Doing stuff like that?

Voting doesn't really make a difference, now, does it?

[-] 4 points by GypsyKing (8708) 9 years ago

"No need for harsh language."

Well excuse me, I didn't know people from Brooklyn were so delicate and sensitive. Perhaps you can avert your eyes.

Why would I be angry? Geez, got no idea. What about the treatment of the Occupy movement in America would make me mad? Duh!

What kind of fraud are you?

[-] 1 points by 99nproud (2697) 9 years ago

If voting doesn't really make a difference, then why are so many states trying to restrict the right to vote?

Didn't Emma Goldman make some connection regarding voting and making it illegal?

[-] -3 points by wickerman (62) 9 years ago

But doesn't it start with far right and far left groups shaving down their wish lists? Pick one or two issues that most of us agree on, agree to set all other issues aside, and then we can talk. As long as TEA is opposing all forms of government regulation on corporations and Occupy is pushing for gun confiscation neither is going to gain much traction with the other. Those issues and many more are important to those who hold them, but we have to agree to set them aside for now in order to accomplish the things we both want. I don't believe that not helping a group who's members open admit that their end goal is communism is giving into fear, it is simply believing what those member say.

[-] 4 points by GypsyKing (8708) 9 years ago

Well, it's something of a compliment to this movement that they still think it's worth paying trolls to work this site.

[-] 1 points by HCabret2014 (-11) 9 years ago

This is an OPENforum. People aren't trolls just because they disagree with you. All speech is welcome on this site. Freedom of speech is a fundamental and an absolute.

[+] -4 points by wickerman (62) 9 years ago

Every complaint that I have made is backed by statements made by members on this board. It isn't a strawman if it really exists. Further the far left push from most members on here has done far more to divide the movement than anything I've done.

Freedom of speech does not exist in a progressive communist system, so why shouldn't they start enforcing it now.

[-] 1 points by HCabret2014 (-11) 9 years ago

Evolution is not bad. Censorship is.

[-] 0 points by HCabret2014 (-11) 9 years ago

Worse - betray all of life.

[-] -2 points by wickerman (62) 9 years ago

Don't kid yourself, folks on here are doing far more damage to the movement than the government could ever hope to do. Yes, I agree with freedom of speech, but being free to do something does not mean that it is the right thing to do. Talk about what you will, I mean to point out that you are alienating a lot of people by doing it. There are things we agree on, then there are things we don't. If we refuse to embrace a common cause but rather wallow in our differences then we are doing exactly what the establishment want us to do. I came here with an olive branch, and was welcomed like a leper. It is something that I will remember.

Tell me about it, for a month or so I was their main target. It was that way with the movement as a whole of course, but we have not been defeated. Far from it, we turned the whole zeitgeist. We reshaped the political narrative and we are poised to win, if we simply don't give up on the democracy these people are determined to destroy.

Congrats on your recent work, is very intricate and well received, well done kudos and congratulations.

Yes everyone had experienced personal, attacks here, very unfortunate, and like the organized attacks in the parks, denying rights to assemble and speak for those without speech, the common man on Main Street USA.

Register people to vote this year everyone. Start with neighbors, your neighborhood association, your children's school neighborhood, your work neighborhood. Let's have some civic hope and pride once again and take back our democratic rights and ideals that inspire all in our nations foundation and dreams.

Register at graduation ceremonies, fairs, forth of July. Democracy should give us hope for future.

EDIT we should organize registration buses, and go to the corners of country where democracy is much needed now. The founders gave the greatest checks and balance to the people, all was for the people, not the partisan interests, for the common good.

Evolution is something everything experiences. OWS is so much more than it originally was.

[-] 4 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 9 years ago

That's absolutely true, and in OWS' case I'm glad of it. We don't have much clout when it comes to fighting the TBTF's, so I prefer to leave that to Hudes and her type, who have the connections and voice to make a difference. However, 'Occupy the SEC' absolutely kicked ass. It's heartening to see, in this day and age, essentially average people getting their voice heard.

'Occupy Sandy.' The American Red Cross and other major players were ham-strung by red tape and the volunteers of OS just got in there and "did it." Fuck all that red-tape, hierarchical, procedure-laden bullshit.

'Strike Debt.' I was very impressed with that one. Now that's how to use the system to benefit the people.

OWS has some very smart people getting things done. But this forum is just a group of people over in the corner shooting the breeze. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy it, that's why I'm here. I do like being a part of it all.

Edit: This forum does serve a purpose, of course. There are far more readers than there are commenting, and I'd like to think it enlightens people. For those of us who don't actually get out and march in the streets, it's empowered us in other ways.

[Removed]

[-] 1 points by HCabret2014 (-11) 9 years ago

You say they (whoever that is) are not part of OWS and not representative of the movement, yet they are not part of the 1% either. The 0%?

We are individuals. Separate and indivisible. Each with their own goals and opinions. OWS should recognise this fact.

[-] 3 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 9 years ago

I think you're overcomplicating things, H. I didn't say the members of this forum weren't a part of OWS nor did I say they don't, on an individual basis, represent OWS. Some of the members are the epitome of OWS. What I'm saying is, this FORUM as a whole doesn't represent the face of OWS.

What might be a bit hard to grasp, is that OWS isn't a thing. It's an ideal.

It started out as an attack on the corporate capture of the government, and specifically the banks and their crashing of the global economy. They wanted justice against them, rightfully.

Since then, it's morphed into something different, more diverse if you will. Hence the 101 issues being discussed, as opposed to the singular mission at the beginning. Throw Geithner et al in jail, where they belong. Break up the so-called TBTF. Restore Glass-Steigall. Etc.

[-] 1 points by HCabret2014 (-11) 9 years ago

So these dozen or so people are part of the 1%?

[-] 2 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 9 years ago

No, no, not at all. Most are true believers. I don't believe there are any so-called 1%ers on here. Why would they be?

[-] 1 points by HCabret2014 (-11) 9 years ago

OWS does claim to be representative of 99% of Americans.

[-] 4 points by gsw (3410) from Woodbridge Township, NJ 9 years ago

Ows represents the interests of the 99 percent, economically, medicinally, environmentally, democratically, constitutionally, in contrast to many politicians in the pay to play system of government, often represent much the interests of the one percent.

For example capital gains tax breaks, offshore wealth tax havens, corporate welfare, military industrial complex cronyism, and in the fact the upper percentile a are the only ones who statistically have prospered in the last decades, here in the states.

Why can we not have our food clearly labeled as to its contents. Why must the oil industry not pay any tax, but get rebates. Many corporations pay no tax, they just take the profits to off shore tax havens, and sit on the wealth.

You conflate this forum with OWS. I've been here since Nov 2011 and I've watched every little move. This forum does not represent the movement at large; all it is, is a dozen people shooting the breeze. Unfortunately too many of them think partisan politics is the way forward. Any true follower would concur with what I'm saying, I think.

Edit: OWS does claim to represent the so-called 99%.

I resist labels, and they know who they are.

All I've ever viewed this forum as, is a place to share information. Nothing more. What newbies don't realize is, that this isn't the true face of OWS. It's not even closely representative.

[-] 1 points by HCabret2014 (-11) 9 years ago

If we can't talk about our differences, they will only become greater. If there was nothing to talk about, then why have a forum at all? It seems to be that differences are not celebrated on here at all. Dissent is severely frowned upon.

Occupy is NOT pushing for ''gun confiscation'' - as reasonable 'control' does NOT equal ''confiscation'' !!! It's misinformation like that that leads to the difficulties you so ably describe above !! But I do agree with the deeper gist of what you say ! + fyi :

I really don't mean to insult you at all but you can't really make out that you're any kind of authority on ''communism''. Those people who espouse it, do so on some kind of moral and ethical grounds based on their perception of radical, pro-99% politics. No one here on the forum is advocating for 'Totalitarian Stalinism' .. which is most US folks' understanding of ''communism''. Also please try to reflect on that insightful Ralph Nader article above. Thanx.

ad iudicium ...

[-] -2 points by wickerman (62) 9 years ago

Please give one example of communism in the world today or anytime that did not start as a working class or peasant rebellion and turn into a dictatorship. There in is the problem, it has never been done. All socialist/communist take overs have began exactly the way that I am seeing advocated on this forum. Many, if not all of the pro-socialist statements can be found in quotes from socialist or communist dictators. I have posted at least one, in response to a pro-socialist post. I quoted Adolf Hitler, who said exactly the same thing the poster was saying. As for not advocating gun confiscation, do I really need to quote the posts where total gun bans are advocated for? I am not sure what Occupy itself is for, I can tell you that a majority of Americans feel that whatever reasonable control is enacted now will be nothing more than a step toward total bans and confiscation.

[-] 2 points by shadz66 (19985) 9 years ago

You are confusing 'Bolshevism' and 'Totalitarian Stalinism' with communism .. and the days of any abstract illusions or allusions to the anti-democratic, 'Dictatorship of The Proletariat' are long gone.

You, like so many Americans ... keep allowing yourself to give in to fear and loathing and your fear of ''socialism'' in tantamount to 'anti-socialism' lol. I am not at all sure that I can help you with any of that because your mind is made up from things that you have been told and taught and your prejudices are probably not debatable. Nevertheless ...

Adolf Hitler was a Fascist ... which has nothing to do with either 'socialism' or 'democracy' !!! Nazi - may be short for 'National Socialism' but that was a Germanic Racialist, linguistic, militaristic and corporatist sleight of hand .. because the tenets of 'socialism' were so popular in 1930s Europe !! You should really look up Mussolini's definition of 'Fascism' IF you really want to understand Nazism in 1930s Germany !

Re. guns - yet more reactionary fear from you. Deadly personal weapons are like a new 'opium of the masses' and are very good at conveying 'the illusion of freedom and security' .. whilst simultaneously making everyone much more unsafe and making corporations lots of money.

Sadly, dead innocent people are now just 'collateral damage' apparently.

The bottom line seems to be the now seemingly religious affiliation of some gun loving folks to the 2nd Amendment, but with no recourse to ''well regulated militia'' or questioning the specious equivalence of the flint lock firearms of the time - with the powerful, high-calibre automatic weapons of the modern era.

Do you believe that any and all weaponry is permissible for your 'safety' ? Is there a rational and logical equivalence between how you treat guns & cars ? Finally, please try to engage the salient points here :

But enough from me now ... The Football World Cup Is About To Start :-)

I am quoting ME - as I said that to you before but you totally ignored it last time !!! There isn't a positive answer for your negative question but - the past only frightens those who lack courage going forward !! I can't help you with your ignorance {did Hitler lie ? Yes he did & then used his secret police & totalitarian ethos ffs !} ... any more than I've tried to here but rhetorically - what is The Express Purpose Of Guns ?!

I'm going to watch the opening ceremony and then the first game (Brazil v Croatia) now. You don't open links or read or want to learn. Your problem - but sadly also mine, when seen in the round & a sad sigh.

mais, c'est la vie - n'est ce pas ?

[-] -3 points by HCabret2014 (-11) 9 years ago

I thought it was anarchism, not communism. That's what Flup keeps telling me. Or is libertarian socialism? I'm confused.

[-] 0 points by wickerman (62) 9 years ago

Seems everyone is confused. For some it is no more than tossing around ideas, for others it seems more like trying to convince people that their way is right. The group lacks focus and cohesion, but it comes across, to the unaffiliated observer, as some sort of bait and switch. TEA comes across as just anti-Obama. Which I think some are, but I think that most don't trust our government and would like to see it rendered ineffective. Would the same people feel differently if our government actually worked for the people instead of corporations? I believe so, but the irony of TEA is that the very measures they are trying to pass to limit government power are helping the corporations who are the real problem.

[-] 2 points by shadz66 (19985) 9 years ago

''My thoughts exactly, everyone hates socialism, but when you talk to them they all support many socialist doctrines. The word itself is vilified.'' [from : https://occupywallst.org/forum/a-case-for-capitalism/#comment-1032295 in reply to : ''That's why we're all here. This is the crux of the matter, exactly. Is the government the problem? Or, is the government in the hands of corporations the problem? Of course it is the latter. The more things are privatized, the more pain will be felt. I'm just hoping that it doesn't get to the point that it's too late. The funny thing is, most Americans love their social programs and when questioned, have collectivist or socialist tendencies in their beliefs. They've just been brainwashed into this crazy anti-government, materialist, individualist fantasy. Turkeys voting for Thanksgiving.'' by bw] Also further consider ...

''The Fed is a privately owned for profit company unless I am mistaken, not a government agency. So it's manipulation of the economy is a capitalistic manipulation by a corporation rather than a manipulation by the government.'' [ https://occupywallst.org/forum/a-case-for-capitalism/#comment-1032236 ]

I agree with you so irrespective of the political ideologies we may subscribe to, we could still share common 99% goals, right ? Ergo, please do try to consider this short article ...

Pulitzer prize-winning reporter David Cay Johnston has researched economics, wages, taxes and related issues for many years. He’s written numerous books on those subjects.

Writing for the San Jose Mercury News, then serving as a columnist for Reuters, Johnston won his Pulitzer writing on economics and tax issues for the New York Times.

President of Investigative Reporters and Editors, Johnson now holds titles such as Distinguished Visiting Lecturer at Syracuse University College of Law and Whitman School of Management.

In other words, Johnston is a highly-credible reporter on economic issues.

Last week, Johnston headlined at Al Jazeera – the mainstream American press apparently wouldn’t touch the story – “Americans fared better after Great Depression than today“:

Coming out of the Great Depression eight decades ago, the vast majority fared vastly better than most people have coming out of the Great Recession, which officially ended on June 30 six years ago.

It may be jarring to hear that the vast majority of Americans, the 90 percent, enjoyed bigger income gains in the 1930s than in recent years, but that is what the data show.

The data also indicate tandem increases in both want and wealth, with the vast majority worse off in 2013 than in 2009, while those at the apex of the economy are enjoying a much larger — and growing — share of national income.

The news will be filled with stories about a record high number of jobs ….

But such stories will be misleading because in the last six years America’s population grew by about 14 million people. With population growth taken into account, America needs more than 145 million jobs to surpass 2008’s employment percentage. [Background.]
