I think OWS is not getting popular support because it lacks an actionable cause.

Globalization with free trade, by its nature, is to remove the economic boundaries from each country. US, as one of the most economically advanced country, is to lower its standard of living for the general public. And, China, on the other hand, is to improve its standard of living. This process continues until the standard of living of different countries are comparable. The driving forces behind this process are the business people and investors whose goal is to maximize profits.

Winners:

  1. US business people and investors who can maximize profits by moving businesses to lower-cost countries. The business is not limited to manufacturing. It is well known that research & development, business services like call center and medical document reviews, etc are starting to be outsourced too.

  2. Chinese business people and investors who can increase their business by exporting

  3. Chinese workers because of increased employment opportunities

Losers:

  1. American workers because of lost employment opportunities

This may be part of a bigger plan - who would have though about "wage equilization" by the NAFTA agreement.

What you stated is exactly what is happening - the living standard for Americans is going down while the living standard in other countrie are on the rise.

What this means in the long run is that the Middle Class will be gone - only one class will exist besides the business class.

At one time we used to have low income, middle income and high income famlies - we are now on the way to only having low income families.

Scary thought for those of you whom have your whole life ahead of you -
