I think OWS is not getting popular support because it lacks an actionable cause.
Globalization with free trade, by its nature, is to remove the economic boundaries from each country. US, as one of the most economically advanced country, is to lower its standard of living for the general public. And, China, on the other hand, is to improve its standard of living. This process continues until the standard of living of different countries are comparable. The driving forces behind this process are the business people and investors whose goal is to maximize profits.
US business people and investors who can maximize profits by moving businesses to lower-cost countries. The business is not limited to manufacturing. It is well known that research & development, business services like call center and medical document reviews, etc are starting to be outsourced too.
Chinese business people and investors who can increase their business by exporting
Chinese workers because of increased employment opportunities
- American workers because of lost employment opportunities
