Forum Post: OWS did not change American thought after all

I often hear how OWS is not dead on this forum, even though the founders themselves, jart - Micah, say it is. I often hear how OWS changed the way Americans think, it forever brought socialism to the forefront, etc...

It gives hope, that OWS was not for nothing...

But, then, is it true?

When I look at the current election campaign, I'm not so sure.

Bernie Sanders is losing to an old cat with more "conservative" democratic ideas.

Then for the GOP, Trump of all people is leading, more conservative than that you die.

It seems to me America is looking more and more conservative, not more and more socialist like OWS forum users would lead you to believe.

This is a real tragedy. To think a great guy like Sanders is losing, and that a moron like Trump might well become the next president of America.

That idea is more nuts than any ideas coming from conspiratards.

Actually more conservative than Trump means Jesus will save you from being nailed to the cross.

Where is my beer, and get out of the way. I can't see the TV set.

Beer, did you say "beer"? Why not vote with your dollars and get some bottles of Flat Tire to swill ...brewed at one of New Belgium's co-op breweries in Ft Collins, CO or Ashville, NC. Then consider plopping on the couch and letting the tube finish the job. We all did that, OK maybe they were corporate breweries, but it's kinda the reason why we are here.

The U.S. should institute attending a beer bash and pork-chop dinner at government expense as citizenship requirements to stem potential terrorism. The First Amendment never said that we could not require citizens be able to attend a beer summit with our President, nor did it prohibit our citizens from being conversant brown-nosers when kissing up to China's behinds over a pork-chop state dinner. The Brits have already led the way, so can We the People follow in the "Pivot to Asia."

Carlsberg beer fortune funded the discovery of quantum mechanics, from which the modern economies grew. Without your humongous beer-belly hill, a huge chunk of the U.S. economy could not have come into existence so there would be no electronics to keep you entertained.

How many basketballs do you see the teams playing in the same game? Beer and basketballs make great Saturday Night Fever and Sunday Morning Hangover. Beer changed my thoughts about why cultures prohibiting the drinking of alcohol have been left behind economically.

Once people realized OWS had no plans to involve itself in politics people quit caring about it.

Absolutely = many people did get disheartened when OWS did not make a move to regain politics for the people.

Shit comment? It's exactly what happened. Lots of people who joined OWS early on had no idea it was an anarchic protest (apolitical, and no demands). Once they realized that, they left. Everyone knows that. You would too, if you had actually participate in an OWS event.

Those like yourself bent on defining OWS helped to kill it, restrictive purity killed any hope of it growing into something that could have affected change. I came here after I saw some kids on TV talking about wealth inequality and I said to myself ah finally something I have been watching develop for thirty years has gotten so bad that others are starting to notice. Once I got here I did notice while some spoke of wealth inequality actually taking action to reduce it was a different matter, that combined with the co-opters like Matt and Shadz with their separate agendas that have nothing to do with wealth inequality and the truth that brought so many here got distorted.

True indeed. OWS could have been so much more if it wasn't for small minds like shadz.
