Forum Post: On trolls and troll affects. The more you know. This is a public service anouncement.

Posted 12 years ago on March 7, 2012, 11:30 a.m. EST by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

People do not care about trolls - that is a misconception. People know about trolls and share their perception. If anyone should wonder if a troll serves a good purpose? It is that they will swarm a topic or contributor if either is against the agenda of the greedy corrupt. This is how many may know that they are on the absolute right track.

Hell even the trolls know this. So they have started coming up with their own posts and attacking them, they are also starting to do the same with troll comments - attack them to sow confusion as to who is who.

Clever but not gonna work. Your aims defeat you to start with - you have to blow your cover sooner or later to spew your poison against the movements against corruption and greed.

Thank you for playing.

Please come again.

PS - trolls seem to believe that when they are making comments on another post - that no one remembers what they have said before elsewhere.

The more you Know.

Another Proof positive - when you are making some good point that the trolls disapprove of.

They will also try ignoring you and try to quietly vote your comments closed.

Like here today.

Have a look see.

See any collapsed threads?

Good reason for it?

Find out open it up and have a look.

Does it make sense now?

Thank you so much for a look inside the propaganda machine.

The only real danger trolls pose is clutter ... that is, burying productive (even if tense and controversial) discussions under a mountain of useless b/s. Beyond that; we shouldn't worry about trolls shaping ideas (usually, they're more helpful in exposing the stupidity of the status quo as opposed to anything else), but clutter is an issue.

How to make these distinctions? Umm, in forums I've participated in, ad hom remarks are usually frowned upon (that is, remarks that attack "the person" rather than the idea), and "off topic" remarks (that have no rational relationship to the topic at issue) are frowned upon. However, OWS has a relatively broad scope, so it may be more complicated to make these distinctions. If people get the impression that this forum doesn't welcome opposing ideas, then that's not very consistent with a message of liberty and democracy. So I guess these decisions should be made carefully.

As the maxim goes, the way we fight for change influences the change we wind up with.

So we are here promoting awareness.

It is a good thing to observe - this allows the gathering of information for later consideration. People should be wary they should take notes. This is how you begin to find solid ground.

This is part of awakening.

good video. When I seen it awhile back, I was struck as to how intellectually dishonest and childish the tactic seemed. But hey, what's you going to do?

[+] -5 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Show the world.

It may be childish in seeming - but if you are not aware that this stuff is being done - then not so childish any-longer.

Manipulation is not as complicated as some might think.

Hey DKA, could you possibly put that link in your OP so that it is easily available?

You betcha! I should have thought of that myself. Good call.

Thank you for posting that link here.

Yep. Sooner or later they spin too much and it comes out. The scripted threads give it away. What a shame.

[-] -3 points by HoarFriday (27) 12 years ago

Oh, you mean like how you DNC shills long ago gave away exactly what this site is about?

No problem toots! We're here to give you a hand with your game!

Its got to happen. Their lies will expose them.

Sooner or Later.

They think that they are sooo slick.

Yep. They are actually pretty sloppy.

[+] -4 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Cute.

Yes I was aware of where the saying came from. Does not make it a bad saying if used for good. ( and sarcasm is fun )

[-] 1 points by pewestlake (947) from Brooklyn, NY 12 years ago

It was meant completely in the spirit of the post. I just thought it needed the tag. ;-)

[+] -4 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

No no I liked it. Don't misunderstand it was a funny addition. Thank you. I just wanted you to know that when I used that phrase that I knew it was ironic. ( what is crystal clear to one can be unseen by another ) I just didn't want any misunderstandings from those stopping by.

[-] 0 points by pewestlake (947) from Brooklyn, NY 12 years ago

I got it instantly. But I understand why you feel the need to spell things out for the v e r y s l o w around here. ;-)

[+] -6 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Well I try to include the trolls for their benefit too. Anyone can change. No no really stop laughing.

Any thing is possible no matter how improbable.

We go forward.

[-] 1 points by pewestlake (947) from Brooklyn, NY 12 years ago

Leopards don't change their spots. They may change their tune, but they'll never stop being sociopaths. Anyone out for "lulz" is a sociopath. Extremely erratic, unpredictable and prone to violent outbursts but mostly harmless in this environment. Gullible teens and twenty-somethings spouting talking points can be excused. The rest are parasites.

[+] -5 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

I can very much understand your comment.

But as far as impossible? Saul of Tarsus and the bolt out of the blue.

Improbable - YES

Impossible - NO

just sayin

[-] 1 points by pewestlake (947) from Brooklyn, NY 12 years ago

Admire your tenacity. ;-)

[+] -4 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Thank you. I admire your words of warning also.

We must be aware.

We must question.

We must find a rock to stand on or risk being washed away.

This does not mean you can't have an open mind.

It just means do not blindly accept anything.

We had a small crowd tonight at the Troll Classes. I was told that Wednesday nights are not good for classes. OWS people are in their tents watching American Idol.

There are two different groups of people on here who disagree with or disparage Occupy Wall Street. The first group is composed of rational, intelligent people who are unclear on our motives, uncomfortable with our tactics, or who simply don't see a need for our continued existence. We really should treasure that bunch for two reasons: first off, if there's something legitimately wrong with how things are being handled they'll be the first to catch it, and promptly acting on their criticisms when those criticisms are legitimate make us a far better movement. Second, people who disagree with you and are willing to be articulate about why make some of the best sparring partners out there, and if you're willing to engage them in legitimate debate, even if you wind up still disagreeing the experience will leave you a lot quicker on your feet and a lot more aware of what exactly you're arguing and that's an incredible asset to have.

The second group is composed of idiots who don't really have anything to add to the discussion and either get off on raising everyone's blood pressure or are simply full of hate or delusional. That group is collectively referred to as the trolls, and nobody really knows or cares why or how they originate, but the fact is that they're as much a part of unmoderated forums as vanishing socks are a part of doing laundry. That is the group that is actually useless at best and can actually be a threat to the online community in the long term if we let them. Banning and cracking down on the latter is fine by me, but we really should extend the benefit of the doubt as long as at least one of us can reasonably believe that someone is the former.

[-] 1 points by freewriterguy (882) 12 years ago

fair and equitable analogy. I especially liked the vanishing socks example.

[+] -5 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Thanks for providing another example of troll work. People will recognize you from your other contributions and realize that you are the genuine article.

Thanks for being a sport.

See?

Clever.

Like I said they like to make comments - wait for a reaction - and then come back and edit their original input - to make you look like an idiot.

Well played Troll.

Please come again.

[-] 0 points by freewriterguy (882) 12 years ago

obviously im not quite onboard yet with the anti-troll movement having been banned from other sites being labeled a troll. Why one time in Pal Talk I went to a Muslim room and chanted, "Shebbat Shalom" and within seconds I was bounced out of their with a warning from Pal Talk saying that if I offended again, I would be banned from Pal Talk. That was like my ownly experience with Pal Talk. I havent personally experienced it yet as Im still relatively new here in OWS Forums, but at the heart of your comments I do agree with the possible counter productivity that these "trolls" could be doing to the movement.

[-] -2 points by FreeDiscussion5 (12) 12 years ago

It is against the law to yell "Kuran" in a burning theater.

You will find out if you are a racist if you call a BLACK republican an "OREO" or an "Uncle Tom" Know the signs of being a liberal racist if you see a succeful Black man or woman and you hate the fact that they were capable of doing it without government assistance. Calling a BLACK person an OREO is just one of many tactics used by liberal racists. Know the signs. Get the book free if you attend the event.

Cannon fodder.

[-] -1 points by sunstar (-14) 12 years ago

You really should include the best sellers:

"The Rise And Fall Of Progressive Liberalism,Obama's First Term"

followed by the sequel "The Obama Regime,Bankrupting of America".

[-] 0 points by FreeDiscussion5 (12) 12 years ago

I think in one of the books it refers to liberals calling women the "c" and "s" word. There is a chapter about Bill "Mars" and how he thinks it is funny to call republican women "c" but demands an apology from Rush for using the "s" word. Chapter 11 and 13 talks about the Obama's trend in the American Economy. Good read.

[-] 1 points by pewestlake (947) from Brooklyn, NY 12 years ago

You know the Bushes are running cocaine into the country through their subsidiaries that own oil platforms in the gulf and funneling the profits to the Illuminati, right? Cheney designed the FEMA death camps but gave them away to the Republican governors of the states they were built in to prevent Obama from tearing them down. You know this, right? This is common knowledge.

Mitch Daniels and Chris Christie are now in charge of the plan to exterminate two-thirds of the American population between election day and December 21, 2012, the day the 100' foot tall Lucifer rises within the first ring of the Pentagon, forever under the control of the wealthy ruling elite. Then Ronald Reagan will be resurrected using the blood sacrifice of all the bleeding heart liberals in America, and with the power of Hell at his beck and call, rule over all nations with the clenched fist of doom.

This was in ALL the papers. I can't believe you didn't see it.

muuuuuhahahahaha
