Its important to point out that #OccupyCongress is an attempt to co-opt the message of OWS into a partisan one to give unions what they want. Now before some of you start foaming at the mouth about how what unions want can't possibly be negative, I'd like to remind you that their goal is to get Obama's JOBS BILL passed.

Some of you are probably thinking this is a good thing. I don't know how many times we have to tell you before you understand, congress is not capable of doing anything good; same goes for the president. Everything, from health care, to cap and trade, to the stimulus to this bill are all designed to filter money and political power to connected elites with practically no substantive benefits for anyone else. The few good things that do get through (like Frank/Dodd's derivatives monitoring regulation or an attempt to get more people HC coverage), are offset by significant and much more damaging payoffs to the establishment.

(Goldman Sachs actually makes money off of Frank Dodd, meanwhile it puts more regulation on smaller community banks who are less likely to loan now. Anyway, that's a story for another time.)

Its been pretty well established by now that it is (at least partially) a privatization bill, designed to funnel money from tolls and other payment methods into private hands that will be overseeing upgrades to infrastructure. Never mind that there are already established and functional ways to pay for upgrades to roads, bridges, ports etc. It will also transfer power away from local officials to Washington and the new corporate owners. Prices will be higher, there will be more tolls and service will suffer.

This is literally "third way" economic fascism. Its fucking disgusting that progressives are so easily led astray. Naked Capitalsim has a pretty good condemnation of it (be aware, its written sarcastically). Glenn Greenwald talks about this at some length as well. Hardly right wing sources.

Thank you for this. I was unaware of much of this information, though I by no means though Dodd-Frank did what we needed it to do.
