Occupy Toronto in St.James park was going to be evicted last week. A lawyer from the movement sent an appeal to a Judge to have this order overturned, since the right to Freedom of speech in the Canadian Charter of Rights overrides any by-laws about sleeping in the park.
The eviction order was overturned, and several city councillors sent a petition to the Mayor, requesting a delay until eviction strategies could be discussed.
Now apparently, there was a Judgement and the eviction order was reinstated. Several unions and other groups showed up to support Occupy Toronto, but have since left.
Occupy Toronto now has a live feed from their Yurt in the park.
