With winter approaching, it's time to denounce greed and promote austerity to the American Public and Occupy American Malls.

More people need to send Wall Street, banks, government and their greedy money manipulators a message. We...The American People are in control. We don't like what we are getting out of our elected officials, hard earned tax dollars, and what the future brings and therefore, we aren't giving in...We are moving OWS to the next level and we need to put a stop to the holiday spin doctors are their hypnotic messages to spend, spend, spend, (This is what Wall Street and their cohorts in crime, the parasitic Congress wants so they can use positive retail data to manipulate the markets and line their pockets...see 60 minutes last night)

A growing number of American households are already spending beyond our means. For the past 80+ years, the Christmas holiday message has NEVER been about the celebration of Christs birth...it's been about a Madison Avenue mascot called Santa Claus and his unconscionable attempts to manipulate small children into thinking that first, he is real... and then later force parents to tell their kids...ooops, I lied...he isn't real...and second, that the material world is more precious than the real world.

This teaches children at a very early age that it's OK to lie and cheat our own flesh and blood...just like the employees of Wall Street and their elected government hand puppets.

This has to stop....People, we need to occupy malls....shut down retail...show the world that we need to re-prioritize our lives and seek out more spiritual, not material goals in life.

The holidays are not about being the first on the block to get World of Warcraft, a Lexus in the driveway with a red bow on it or a possessed Elmo doll. It's about universal love, peace, caring, paying it forward by actions not material wealth.

I know it may sound a bit trite to cite lyrics to a song as a summary of this post, but John Lennon's Imagine was at the forefront of the protests against the Vietnam War and the establishment in the early 70's...These wonderful lyrics still ring true today....

First, as a nation, we must all re-take Economics 101...It seems we all slept through that class in college. If you didn't go to college, re-take HomeEC in High School. Didn't go to High School? take a Home Ec course at the local YMCA. Seriously.

Banks are the evil party here. That and the government officials that gave them the right to fiscally rape us at every opportunity.

If I buy something on sale, I want to only pay that sale price and be happy with it. That means I pay cash. But so many people out there, buy stuff on sale and then put it on a credit card.

They then, buy more things because the bank gave them this large credit spread to use. When it comes time to pay the bill, the expenses outweigh the income and after they they pay "essentials" ie utilities, food, house payments, gas etc., they don't seem to have enough for the credit cards. So, they pay only part of that bill.

That's when the banks 25% interest rate kicks in. So, those nifty sweaters, pants, electronics, sports items, they bought at Macy's, Best Buy and Sports Authority for 20% off now cost them 105% of full retail cost. And, that's only if they paid enough to not let those items carry over into another month.

I know people that always carry a balance on their credit cards. They pay hundreds, even thousands of dollars in interest to the bank. In the end, many of these consumers are paying double digits over full retail for a product they thought they were getting for 20% off.

Does that make any sense? Is it a surprise then why we are the 99%? We are stupid people...stupid, stupid, stupid. If you want control over the 1%, stop giving them money. Don't shop this Christmas on credit. Buiy what you can pay cash for...You will be happier and less tressed out as a result.

Buying beyond your means on credit isn't the 1%'s fault. thats all on the individual. Credit is a necessary thing you just have to manage it safely. Yes it gives money to the companies, but without being able to buy things on credit would lead to all sorts of problems. And if managed safely its a great tool.

I agree with much of what you say. Above all, though, we should only buy what we can afford...we all must live within our means if we wish to be fiscally responsible adults. Sadly, most people do not.

Credit cards are good for emergencies and maintaining a good credit score, but it's much more cost effective to plan for Christmas/ large purchases through placing cash into savings.

I'm not sure that placing all blame on the banks is completely fair, though. Don't get me wrong, the banking industry is not exacty Mother Teresa, and there are some serious issues, but I think that we must take personal responsibility as well. We place our money in these institutions...but we can take it out and place it in a credit union. It's a pain, and it's a hassle, but it's effective.

Banks, to earn our business back, will have to compromise to earn that customer satisfaction. So, like you mentioned, we stop giving the banks (not necessarily the 1%) our business, which is our money, and then they'll start listening. Can't run a business without customers!

This past weekend, there were protesters in front a of a mall in Boulder, Co and they had a very strong message that made me turn around and go home and rake leaves instead of shopping for stuff I really don't need.

They said that during World War II, Americans were asked to ration and make huge sacrifices for the betterment of the country. Stay at home women and mothers were asked to work, food, gasoline, metals, construction materials were all rationed. Even pro sports were interrupted to support our troops.

We are now in another type of war...the war for equality, fairness and opportunity. We are fighting against greed, the 1% and corrupt politicians. It's time we channel our parents and grandparents contributions for a better America and make those same sacrifices to fight against capitalistic control of our wallets, our minds and our sanity.

That message resonated with me, because my parents as kids and their parents made those sacrifices during WWII. Why would it be so bad for the 99% to stop buying for a minute and make Wall Street sweat. We need to take back control of this country. The Tea Party has it all wrong. It's not JUST the government we need to take this country back from. We need to wrestle control of this country away from the 1% AND the Government.

A little sacrifice will go a long way to wake this country up!!!!!

This makes the most sense to me. What is the purpose of a movement if all that was accomplished was 15 minutes of fame on news programs? Maybe, if we shut down the economy, we can get it moving again, under better rules, regulations and a more level playing field. The world is stacked against us 99%'ers. I don't ever expect it to be 50/50 world, wouldn't want it to be. But a 70/30 would practically make this world a utopia at this point.

You all miss the point....America has been dumbed down to an all time low and it is disturbing. We are nothing more than puppets of capitalistic rituals and bribes of material wealth. Doesn't that worry anyone? We have become a nation of anti-philosophers, thinkers and doers....Our credo has become..." I don't own a BMW, there fore I don't exist."

Does a larger home, a bigger car, expensive shoes, and a fatter wallet make us better people? We need to re-educate America...No, I don't believe that hard work and brilliant minds should not be rewarded...Just the opposite...

I do NOT want a welfare, entitlement rich state either... We are better than that.

It's just that we have dug ourselves into this huge hole of excess...We need to tone it down a bit...re-assess...re-examine ourselves...be teachers of equality, peace, and help to advance humanity to be that kinder, gentler nation I thought we were going to have when we elected the present administration.

A short term sacrifice for a long term reward is worth it....otherwise, we will continue to be slaves to the 1%.

So your plan is to stop people from shopping, for their own good. You decided no one should shop all on your own, no one gets to vote on this? The thousand or so people at a mall can't shop because you show up with a hundred protestors. Does that seem to be a recipe for winning the hearts and minds of the people (another phrase from the 60's)?

I am not the 99%. I am closer to the 1%, but I get it. Last month, I closed my accounts at Bank Of America and moved them all to a credit union. It was a pain to re-route my automatic bill payments, but in the end, I really felt good about it.

I used to work in the banking industry and left voluntarily back in 2006 when I complained to all of my bosses that the bubble would burst. They laughed at me and I quit. I now have the last laugh, sort of. They got bailed out and now these same controlling jerks are at it again and I am sick of it.

In teh past three years, I have totally changed my values. I hated who I was. I now drive a compact on a Mercedes like income. I live in a small bungalow, when I could afford a mansion. I pay my taxes, I support meaningful medical research and many worthwhile charities. I walk to places I used to drive to, I grow as much of my own food as I can, and I organize neighborhood get togethers to bring back that sense of community and have made many new friends from it as a result.

Because I live in a middle class area, I hear first hand, all about the pain and misery many families are going through and I have offered my help through community outreach, networking and helping these families get back on their feet. These are proud people that will not accept hand-outs, but will use their talents, skills and hard work ethic to make it work, if given the tools and resources.

Our neighborhood now has that commune sort of support and is spreading to other blocks and neighborhoods. The lives we have touched is all the Christmas joy we all need. As a result, we will not be participating in the excess of the Holidays. Will we spend to support our local shops and restaurants? Yes! But our whole community has a cash only policy. What we buy, we only pay cash for. Not one family in our community has a working credit card. It's refreshing and that's the type of change we need to survive as a nation.

Great to read this - I was in this situation, making more money than I needed, working harder than I wanted, for a company that had a monopoly. It all seemed fake after awhile and I got out. Been happy to give up that lifestyle and move to a place I want to live. I hope others join the good fight.

Also great to see this. Downsizing is to today's world what Gordon Gecko and Reagonomics were to the 80's. We have all learned our lessons. I have downsized my life, my cars, my house and my wife and I have never been happier and much smarter...We read and are involved in a lot more lectures and events than ever before. We have friends that are doing the same. To all those that think more is better, I agree, it's just my more, has nothing to do with anything that is material.

Using John Lennon's lyrics is a bit contrived. But, I get the point you are trying to make I think. Occupy can make a difference, but they need a focus.It's a mess out there. The only thing they have accomplished is pissing people off.

First order of business should be to stop letting the banks own us, literally. They control our lives. Don't think so? Who really owns your house, your car, your credit rating, your material possessions? If you didn't pay cash for them, then the banks do. Even if you did pay cash, if you ever needed a loan for any reason down the road, if you didn't have credit and a balance, you don't have a credit rating. I know a guy that had a credit card and paid it in full very month, so his carry over balance was always zero. You'd think that Visa would be happy with that, but instead, they cancelled his credit card and that had an adverse affect on his credit rating. They wanted some of that money too. And, he wasn't going to give it to them. But guess who won? The banks.

Luckily, he has paid cash for everything his entire life and has accumulated a lot of wealth, so he is fine, but the principle of the bank cutting him off was a thorn in his side and he fought it. But, the bank stated that they would grant him another credit card, but would NOT take the cancellation off of his credit report. I haven't heard where this ended, but it is typical of the control the banks want in our lives. Forget government control. Bank control is what we need to fight.

I saw another post that said that OWS is a bunch of losers. Well, they may be right. At least the way the media and the right wingers are reporting on them. Admittedly, the park sitting is a lose/lose for OWS.

The idea of scaring Wall Street with a bit of Black Friday bad retail sales numbers is intriguing.

If the American people can just say for one season, " I will buy into America, once America changes." Now that would have an impact. Don't fill the pockets of the very people that have stuck it to us for our entire lives. Give them a cause for worry. Occupy Malls and put a scare into Wall Street.

It is a no-brainer. Talk to your family, tell them the rules of Christmas this year is to buy meaningful, affordable gifts.

In other words, Pay cash, tear up your credit cards, then go shopping. You all will be happier, with no debt. The only people that get a benefit out of a credit card paid Christmas are the bank and credit card companies, not you. Especially when those credit cards bills come in the mail in January.

Instead of shopping for things you don't need this Christmas and doing so on credit, do this instead.

  1. Go to your big bank and fire them. Open a Credit Union account. Free checking that will pay you interest on balances, refunded ATM fees, lower interest rates on loans. As a non-profit, the only person that profits is the consumer.

  2. Tear up your credit cards. You don't need them. They cost you inordinate amounts of extra money you shouldn't be giving to the banks.

  3. Have a garage sale of all the items you bought on credit that you have absolutely no use for now. Community sales like this not only can unflush the clutter in our lives, but can bring us together as well.

  4. Start plans for a self sustaining garden of essential vegetables and herbs. If you are in the northern states, start by planting indoor herbs. Teach your kids something about nurturing a plant and the hard work that goes into maintaining not only a family, but how that scales into a community, a city, a state, a nation and the world. Good life lessons to pay forward as they get older.

  5. Fire your congress representative. They are part of the problem and not the solution. We need legislation that eliminates the lobbiest from the equation and today's politicians are to imbred with the way things have always been in Washington to make any changes.

1I love my bank I don't pay any fees, for anything.

2 I prefer using a cradit card instead of paying cash. I pay the balance in full every month.

3I like my stuff and use all of it.

I don't think America has the balls to stop shopping at the malls. I think we have been too brainwashed to halt what has become a guilt trip controlled by the 1%.

I appreciate everyone in my life including my kids, but I don't need to shower them with gifts to prove my love for them. And their self esteem is strong enough to not have to prance around the neighborhood or schools to show off their material wealth.

In my opinion, I am the real 1%. I am the 1% of the 99% who hasn't fallen for the corporate greed, yet I am happy, I have money in the credit union, I support my family with a hard work ethic and pay my taxes on time. I am a very fiscally conservative man. And my family, my very successful high school aged boys, my lovely wife, couldn't be happier, or more grounded.

To stop the roller coaster ride we have been riding the past 4 years, I think this Occupy Mall thing could work. However, I don't think we want to hurt the retailers, just the banks and credit card companies that benefit from it. I like the comments about only paying cash.

It will affect sales just enough and the lack of interest charges the banks WON'T be able to charge will screw them up just enough to make them squirm and maybe, just maybe change things up a bit

Is our nation today, the same nation Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin helped design when they signed the DOI? I can't imagine they would be in favor of the control that the BANK's have over us...to me our controlled dependence on the banks seems worse than the very freedom that we were seeking from Great Britain.

Maybe we need a new Declaration of Independence form this form of mutated capitalism that has infected us to date. And by mutated, I mean the type of gross mutations that are a result of invasive contaminants like radiation or cancer. Criminal Minds are running Wall Street, our Government and that has resulted in us being a part of this 99%.

It is about control. Banks have it, we don't. Banks not only control the 99%, but they control 100% of our elected officials as well...WORLD WIDE!!!

And in the end, we all suffer. Well, not all of us. There was a segment on 60 minutes last night that said that almost all our senate and congressional leaders leave the White House a heck of a lot richer than what their salaries pay them. Why, Inside trading deals, real estate insider info, etc...Stuff the 99% can get arrested for, our elected officials do untouched.

We need change. We need to send a message. Shut down Black Friday. Make Wall Street crap their pants for a few weeks. Rather than buy that brand new pair of overpriced, Chinese, low paid labor made Nike's, have a family night, neighborhood night or re-acquaint yourselves with your local attractions. AND as others have stated. USE CASH. That's one thing that we own that the big banks can't take from us.

Although occupying a mall would be an inconvenience to people that want nothing to do with the 99% or the people that are politically and socially inactive, is it any less of an inconvenient than what the banks and their greedy, unregulated ways did to the value of my house that I pay on time, yet lost over $200,000 in value?

Is it any less convenient than what the banks and their greed did to my 401K balance? Is it any less convenient than the price of gas doubling in the past 3 years? Is it any less convenient than paying a 25% interest rate on my credit card on the little remaining balance that I may have?

Is it any less convenient than another bank charging me a $2 ATM fee when I can't get to my own bank, only to my own bank charging me an extra $2 fee for not using their bank?

People will survive the inconvenience of not getting to shop. They should be used to inconveniences by this time.

If any of you buffoons out there use a credit card and don't pay it off right away, then you all deserve to be and stay in that 99%. You are all no better than unleashed dogs in a room full of food.

You will spend, spend, spend your lives away and then want to be excused for the brain fart you had in spending more than you could afford. At that point, that's when you become the pet, and the banks are your master.

You want freedom? Stop spending money you don't have. I have read a lot of good comments here about using cash. If you want to shut down the banks control, you have to stop funding them

Start with Walmart, now advertising opening at 10 pm Thanksgiving evening, not waiting till midnight so it would be Friday. What total pondscum, and what does it say about the sickies waiting in line for a day or two, camping out. Sounds like a great way to Occupy, just camp out and wait with the rest. With enough Occupiers some of those waiting may not all make it in.

So, just order now on pre-order if they dont have them, if that is the best price.

I couldn't wait until I get home from work to comment about this. I love the idea. I have closed my two credit cards and will only use cash to purchase from local mom and pops. Everyone must understand, retailers make more money when consumers use cash. Credit card companies charge fees to banks for every credit or debit transaction. Screw, screw, screw the banks first and foremost. Support only your local retailer with cash!

Just won a gift $500 certificate to Nordstrom in a office sales contest. I am giving it to an underemployed guy I know with a family. They need it more than me. He probably won't accept it, and if he doesn't, I will probably go to Nordstrom, buy some essential items and just donate them to a church. As for me and my family, we know so many people that have been laid off or who are losing their homes, we have decided to not exchange gifts this year. It just doesn't seem right.

Actually, Imagine by John Lennon is a bad choice here. While we want harmony and brotherhood of man, we need to possess things.

But, I do agree that we can do so without giving a portion of that money to a bank. I get paid a good salary, but I am not stupid enough to give a dime of my hard earned money to a credit card company for the privilege of having their piece of plastic in my wallet.

Go shop. But just don't use a credit card and give the banks a dime. I hate banks and their predatory ways. Always have, always will.

I will not be shopping this holiday season at any mall. I will only shop locally owned and operated business and I will be using only cash. I will also make a lot of gifts this year. My friends will appreciate that more anyway. Screw the banks!

One more thing. Until you ARE the boss, don't spend like him. My dad always told me to take baby steps. If you don't feel you have earned a giant flat screen, then don't buy it. Reward yourself when you truly accomplish something.

Unfortunately, shutting down Wall Street and the government by occupying Black Friday or occupying anything will ultimately play a big role not in just your luxury possessions you purchase for Christmas but will also have a big impact on farmers..(you know the people who produce the food you eat)... let me ask you a question? Can you farm? do you know how to raise cattle? do you know how to grow corn, beans, cotton, etc? If we lived in this society that you want could you support yourself? I know I could but I don't believe in this movement instead I believe in the farmers and like the convenience of going to a grocery store to get my food. Right now farmers gain a lot of their financial support through the government so with out this support what happens?

There was a time that the government was not controlling the farmers and farms were plentiful here in the US. Now, we have fewer farms because the government worked to reduce them so if they do get financial support right now, they deserve it and much more.

Why do you use a credit card...Is it because you don't have the cash to pay for stuff you think you need right this minute?

If that is the case, you are one of the reasons why America is in the messed up condition it is in right now. Buying stuff with money we don't presently have and betting that the future will be better , so that we may be able to pay it off...that is unless there is something else you really don't need that you may want to possess that you may want to buy first.

A downtown park is about as benign a location as you can get. Sitting in the park expecting utopia is crazy. OWS is a crazy protest because the OWS remedy for the "crime family" American government taking bribes in plan view is a worthless protest by lazy, ignorant people expecting utopia. I learned this first hand by making 7 trips to the park and listening to a large number of protesters.

I say there is water in the ocean. That is true. Its not my truth. Its true because God created the ocean by God's decision to put water in what would otherwise be dry holes such as God didn't create any water on other planets. Water is unique to earth as far as we know.

There may or may not be water on other planets, but there is no proof either way.

Malls give me a head ache anyway. I hate, hate malls, so this is an easy one. The sensible and more effective strategy is to trash all of your credit cards. I figure that I have given tens of thousands of dollars to the banks in interest charges over the years. That so stupid of me. Never again.

Can we get the great deals on the Big TV's and laptops first? I just saw the black friday ad for Wal-Mart and Target and there are going to be some great deals. Don't go to malls. Support you local, single owner stores. They love cash too and don't like credit cards. They cost them too much. Credit cards are a huge rip-off., but too many people are lured by advertisements that somehow, purchasing all of these over the top material items is better than sex. They can't pay cash for them, because they don't have enough, so they leverage themselves with debt that engulfs and swallows them whole

This is the kind of thing that does actually make me angry. You all are making lists telling me what I should do with my money at Christmas, so I'll make a list.

1 pick a mall that protesters are sure to be occupying 2 take wife and kids for a shopping trip 3 explain to kids why these people are blocking our way or otherwise hindering us 4 wait for the second that a protester moves to physically encounter any of my family 5 taze said protester and any others that seem threatening 6 make sure wife records incident so protesters can be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

I do have concealed carry, so this could have been more brutal, but that's my benevolence showing. Merry CHRISTmas.

That's just it. My kids will be fine. They go to public school but they are further educated at home. They know how the world works and are head and shoulders above others their age. If absolutely nothing were to change me and mine would be fine. The severe paranoia is on your end. Banks only have the control on you that YOU let them. Don't blame the banks for someone choice to take out a loan they can't pay for, for something they obviously can't afford.

It occurred to me that there are families in need that really need help and have no choice but to have an austere Christmas. Many of us do have choices..my family's choice is not giving gifts this year despite our ability to..,.

What we have decided to do is take that cash we would have normally spent on the holidays and donate it to an organization that will help families that truly have nothing. But, please, make sure it is cash...not a credit card. No benefits to the banks.
