Occupy Buffalo is being forcibly taken down right now in a nighttime raid with cops all over the place. They've arrested people and they have confiscated all the donated money. They're taking everything away in uhauls.

Libertarian guy, how can you be for kicking people out of public property and be a libertarian? And why can't you appreciate a group of people who were willing to camp out in the snow to make a statement about corruption in government and the plight of the poor. Do you really share none of the values of occupy wallstreet? I'm not talking about having in common which values you prioritize over others, I'm just talking about the values themselves.

I'm enough of a libertarian to undertand that if a bunch of people camp out indefinitely in a public space, then they deny liberties to all of the other people who are denied use of that space. You can't simply claim public property for your own use and then whine about your own liberties when the public wants the space back.

How is anyone denied use of that space? Everyone can use it. If someone else doesn't like how I spend my time in the park and so they don't go that's their problem, that's the very basis of libertarianism, not shutting down freedom because it causes other people annoyance.

They've given back the money, Occupy has still been thrown out.

If true...

An attorney might be able to make a case that those police officers be charged with infringing on the rights of those people, under the 5th Amendment, who's money is being confiscated.

It is common for people to think the 5th Amendment is just about the "right to not say anything" while being questioned on the stand, but note the language near the end of the text - it includes so much more.

-- 5th Amendment --

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

Those in government need to uphold the laws WE ALREADY HAVE and those that they have sworn to protect.
