Obama Healthcare really great isn't it folks -

WASHINGTON (AP) — Citing financial concerns, the Obama administration Friday began quietly winding down one of the earliest programs created by the president's health care overhaul, a plan that helps people with medical problems who can't get private insurance.

In an afternoon teleconference with state counterparts, administration officials said the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan will stop taking new applications. People already in the plan will not lose coverage.

Designed as a stopgap solution until the law's full consumer protections are in effect next year, PCIP has served more than 135,000 people, a lifeline for patients with serious medical problems such as cancer and heart failure. But Congress allocated a limited amount of money, and the administration's technical experts want to make sure it doesn't run out.

Health and Human Services Department spokeswoman Erin Shields Britt said PCIP has "provided needed security to some of our nation's sickest people."

The plan covers people who have had problems getting private insurance because of a medical condition and have been uninsured for at least six months. Premiums are keyed to average rates charged in each state, which means they're not necessarily cheap, often amounting to several hundred dollars a month for middle-aged individuals.

"We're glad this program was here and able to help," said Amie Goldman, who oversees the program in Wisconsin. "I'm certainly disappointed we won't be able to serve everyone who has a need for this coverage."

Starting next January 1, insurance companies will no longer be able to turn anyone away because of poor health. At the same time, the federal government will begin subsidizing coverage for millions of individuals who have no access to employer plans. That means many of the people currently in the PCIP program may end up with lower premiums once the government's financial help is factored in.

The enrollment suspension will take effect immediately in 23 states where the federal government administers the program, Goldman said. Residents of states that run their own programs may have longer. Wisconsin residents, for example, have until March 2 to apply.

Enrollment around the country has been lower than expected, partly because some people could not afford the premiums. But individual cases have turned out to be costlier than originally projected. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/02/15/obamacare-uninsurable_n_2698435.html

Meanwhile, Repubs are trying to de-fund the ACA piecemeal. HR 523 Repeal the Medical Device Excise Tax, which provides nearly $2billion of funding to the ACA/year. Sponsored by 166 R and 21 Dems.

Just wait until next year and lets see how happy you are with Obamacare. -

[-] 4 points by GirlFriday (17440) 1 year ago

I'm not happy with it currently. I don't see that as changing any time soon. By the same token, I have seen hospitals refuse necessary treatment for people because they don't have insurance. They didn't have it before and they might get it in the future. Might. But, I doubt it. There are married couples that have what is called Medicaid divorces because they cannot get the care that is needed for their spouse.

Here is the thing that you, and your ilk, fail to get. I also pay taxes. I am also watching who does not pay taxes. There is no reason why we cannot have the health care that we need. There is no reason why we can't have the public education that we need.

If you took all of the energy that you spend in spreading disinformation and being an all around douchebag and began applying it to the issues that actually impact the people then things might actually be accomplished. Instead you are a sell out.

big obama donor, zuckerberg ( facebook) did not pay any taxes.

[-] 2 points by GirlFriday (17440) 1 year ago

Lots of other organizations don't either. You have, unfortunately, decided that it is far more important to scrap over the scraps than take them to task. You've chosen your path.

'No News Coverage Here' - yet I count 1, 2, 3 news articles in this post about it. Reported by the AP. Which means it's widely distributed. So I guess there is news coverage about it.

Now you know why no one takes you seriously. Your cherry picking of news articles shows that you're more interested in getting points for your side than trying to find truth. And you call other people hacks. For shame...

Besides, haven't you learned yet that Yahoo is full of yahoos? or is that where you feel most at home?

[+] -4 points by quantumystic (1710) from Memphis, TN 1 year ago

obamacare is written for and by the health insurance companies the same way the medicare drug plan was. fucking mainstream hacks better wake the fuck up before they find themselves living in hell.

[-] -2 points by OTP (-203) from Tampa, FL 1 year ago

Exactly. Its going to turn into a logistical nightmare, and both sides are just going to point to another and yell.

Meanwhile, the insurance companies and big pharma make out big time.

I was talking with some people a while back, and we were wondering what would happen first- We move to universal like Europe? Or Europe moves to the US model of forcing the people to buy it whether they want it or not, do to budget issues?

[-] 2 points by GirlFriday (17440) 1 year ago

We had a conversation on a forum several years ago after the public option was discarded and someone said that this would force the issue to universal health care. I don't believe it. Even so, that is entirely too much plotting to get something done that harms too many people in the process.

The last time that I checked-they were trying to move health care in Europe to the system like the US and people were not getting the care that they had previously.

As is, there are going to be hella problems but it would be better if we could identify the actual ones instead of the ones that some clown pulls out of their ass.

[-] -3 points by quantumystic (1710) from Memphis, TN 1 year ago

they are too fucking stupid as evidenced by our negative points on this issue. so sick of fake ass liberal hacks who go along with whatever the demoncrats say.

We the people must pressure ALL politicians (repubs) in congress who have purposely underfunded this TEMPORARY program that prevents health insurance corps from turning people with preexisting conditions away.

In 9 months the ACA kicks in and repubs in congress can't stop it like they did now.

From your article:

"Starting next January 1, insurance companies will no longer be able to turn anyone away because of poor health. At the same time, the federal government will begin subsidizing coverage for millions of individuals who have no access to employer plans. That means many of the people currently in the PCIP program may end up with lower premiums once the government's financial help is factored in."

Good article!! Clearly shows that repubs in congress don't care to fund programs that help the sickk 99%.

Thanks

What? The plan that was supposed to pay for itself? The plan that was supposed to give such people more access? That was supposed to mean you could keep your current doctor and insurance if you had it?

No. You don't say.

[+] -8 points by Shayneh (-482) 1 year ago

I guess it "gave out" because of "lack of planning".

[-] 5 points by GirlFriday (17440) 1 year ago

You mean like you should have planned on reading the whole article?

[-] 3 points by inclusionman (7064) 1 year ago

No it didn't "give out", You appear to have missed the fact this was NOT the ACA but rather a temporary plan to help Americans refused coverage by criminal healthcare corps.

And the only reason it can't accept new participants (until ACA starts on Jan 1st) is because republicans in congress have underfunded it.

Do you understand? Pres Obama is trying to help, republicans in congress are obstructing that effort.
