Wow. Footage here of Oakland Police intentionally covering his name tag with black tape. A protester asks him why, and he doesn't respond. The protester then escalates to the sergeant asking "Isn't this against policy?" The sergeant removes the black tape.
The guys who filmed this have balls of steel. They kept their cool, asked politely, went right to the top of the chain of command, and kept going until they got action.
The police aren't damaging OWS's credibility and strength - the black bloc vandals instigating violence with the police are. Focus people, the cops and vandals are a paid distraction from our goal of removing money from politics. Cops are distracting some of us and black bloc vandals are allowed to hide behind masks. If OWS is to succeed then we have to ignore the police and ban face-covering during protests and get back to peacefully removing money from politics.
I wish that the people that vandalized storefronts had the same courage to unmask themselves.
