I like the part where he trash-talks armchair commandos who can't stop going off about REVOLUTION!11111 when we haven't even approached "the limit of what Reform can accomplish"
I think though...that he still wants a revolution..it just seems highly unlikely. He is being very rational. In the interview, however, he does seem to suggest that continual reform could lead to what we would call revolution.
Does he mean those armchair commandos who are deliberately attempting to mislead us? Or the others? Or does he draw a distinction?
I like to remind people that what we are in the process of doing is revolutionary, just as the computer was revolutionary when compared with a typewriter - or telephone.
Is there text available?
dont be lazy, the link to the video is right there.
Chomsky: "I don't think anyone is seriously talking about a revolution. To have a revolution you have to have a substantial majority of the population who recognize further reform is not possible within the institutional framework that exists. And there's nothing like that here, not even remotely."
Q: "Should we be trying to achieve that?"
Chomsky: "First of all, We're nowhere near the limits of what reform can carry out"
I'm on dial-up
But interestingly enough that is what I said here
Too bad you can't watch it. Can't find a transcript of the video.
Thanks for looking.
Good questions and, of course, good answers!
