It's amazing how the Chinese government has allowed Adelson to make them look like laughing stock fools.

China allows casino gambling in the former Portuguese territory of Macau. Every so often they stage big raids to tamp down gangster activity. They had a raid like this one in one of Adelson's hote last December while Adelson was visiting Macau. The police anti-vice squad raided his Venetian Hotel and arrested more than 100 alleged prostitutes and pimps on charges of running a sex ring out of the resort.

Oops!

"In press statements issued on June 29 and July 2, 2012, the DCCC made unsubstantiated allegations that attacked Sheldon Adelson, a supporter of the opposing party," the DCCC said in an e-mail released Thursday. "This was wrong. The statements were untrue and unfair and we retract them. The DCCC extends its sincere apology to Mr. Adelson and his family for any injury we have caused."

That the cops in Macau found 100 prostitutes working in Adelson's joint and arrested them with 28 pimps is not an "allegation" it's a fact. That a Sands executive is suing Adelson for wrongful termination of his job for opposing what he calls Adelson's "prostitution strategy" is a fact. That at trial Adelson's lawyer lied to the court about key evidence and got caught is not an allegation, it's a fact. That the trial resumes on August 30- (assuming the litigant lives and is not silenced or bribed) is still another fact. The DNCC was faced with a threat it couldn't handle, an offer it couldn't refuse so to speak. Face the legal might of a man who has 25 billion dollars, and the media that fears him too of "apologize" for telling the truth. The financial cost of that threatened litigation was more than they could afford monetarily so they folded.

Believe what you like. The fact is the DCCC has issued an apology, they don't say they have any fear of legal action, just that they were wrong.

It doesn't matter to me, I believe both Romney and Obama are equally corrupt and would take money from anyone, if they could get away with it. The only difference I see is that you'd get more liberal court appointments with Obama.

It doesn't matter who we have in the White House ordering drone attacks, renting out the Lincoln bedroom, or supporting NDAA. The only real hope for change within the system is to get a grass roots movement going to take eventual control of congress.

These are facts and not opinions. That's why McCain is worried about the Adelson connection.

Anybody know what Obama has promised to do if reflected? Might be more relevant.

"Anybody know what Obama has promised to do if reflected? " I dunno, shave? Brush his teeth?

[-] 0 points by rpc972 (628) from Portland, OR 11 years ago

Not lie us into two bogus boondoggle wars for oil, and not govern like a Laissez Faire RepubliCon employee of Big $ for two things!!

[-] 2 points by fiftyfourforty (1077) from New York, NY 11 years ago

If "reflected"? Well, seriously I don't think an Obama win would solve much for the 99 percent, but a Romney win would be a catastrophe many times over so I'm going to vote for the first time since 1968 when I wrote in Eldridge Cleaver for President. My hopes for the future of the human race really are with the struggle now still represented by Occupy. I think a Romney win would set back Occupy more than a Romney loss.

[-] 0 points by rpc972 (628) from Portland, OR 11 years ago

And you'd be right. Whatever works.

Reelect/reflected, is there some point??

My concern is for the country much much more than a half-baked political/maybe political/movement/non-movement with a really nice public forum website on their NY branch, but not on any of the others.

Get out the Vote!

[-] 1 points by marvelpym (-184) 11 years ago

Oops I meant reelected of course. I blame the evil corporation who made my iPad. :)

My point was, why are we just doing the same thing we do every election. Shouldn't we be raising the debate and discussing issues instead of both sides just diggin up dirt on each other? Aren't we progressives? Doesn't that mean moving forward to better things?

Maybe not. Maybe we will always be this way. I'm sure there were a lot of progressives shouting "Ma, Ma, where's my Pa?" at Grover Cleveland back in 1884.

They say that 92% of likely voters have made up their minds about who they want for president (or who they don't want). Both sides then aim to fire up their base to make sure they all actually show up to vote, discourage the other side's base (the Republicans do this very aggressively) and try to turn the undecided against the other side. Now. many Republicans and republican leaning independents don't like or trust Romney and maintain some sort of Christian or Judeo Christian ethical code. Many of them would be offended if they understood where Sheldon Adelson gets his money for Romney. They'd be offended that Mormons never actually accepted monogamy as a religious tenet but only as a political expedient and that Romney lied when he said whatever bullshit he said about family values of his faith. A few thousand Romney voters feeling disheartened and staying home can swing the election and I happen to think the outcome of the election is important. For myself i don't rah rah Obama. I don't believe he can carry out a progressive agenda even if he wanted to and I believe the whole political system needs a radical bottom to top remake in the form of Occupy or whatever progressive movement might succeed it. I also think that the political/cultural momentum of a Republican win would be very harmful.

I know things are always going to be like this. Man, I was sick of it back in 1992. But guys like Reid know how to play the political game and there are a lot of simpletons out there who take the bait ("some guy told me" seriously? that's proof?) and run with it and all the negativity flows.

[-] 2 points by fiftyfourforty (1077) from New York, NY 11 years ago

The burden of proof on this matter rests with Romney. He could put it to bed one-two-three. Why doesn't he?

[-] 1 points by rpc972 (628) from Portland, OR 11 years ago

Boycott all cults!! Chic Fil A, RepubliCon and Apple!!!

As progressives and as Americans we should be far beyond any of this... shit. Unfortunately, we are tethered to a bunch of bugger eating morons and plagued by surviving Royalists who long for another King.

We should be beyond bombing a bunch of countries too

[-] 0 points by rpc972 (628) from Portland, OR 11 years ago

We should. That's why we Dems established the UN. But the RW and the MIC superseded it and made sure we were entrenched in war business, which Big Oil is part of.

[-] -1 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 11 years ago

The UN has supported and passed sanctions that have killed millions of people.

You should look into how many people they killed in Iraq before Bush went in and killed even more.

The UN needs to be reworked. It's been corrupted as well as most of everything else.

Also the UN has done nothing to stop the wars. They did nothing to stop Bush in Iraq. They're doing nothing now to stop them now.

[-] 0 points by rpc972 (628) from Portland, OR 11 years ago

Thank you John Bolton, your fair-minded wisdom and egalitarian concerns are priceless. As usual, recognition of any RW and Big $ sabotage of UN, Dems, or any other regulatory organization, will be denied.

So I guess that's a "YES," mr. plant.

[-] 1 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 11 years ago

Riddle me this... How many people in Iraq died due to UN sanctions and US foreign policy in the 90's?

I'm not saying end the UN. I'm saying fix it, stop corruption, and have it's only goal be peace.

Do you think the government should stop bombing foreign countries?

[-] -1 points by rpc972 (628) from Portland, OR 11 years ago

Did you know Bush-1 and the Cons were going to invade Iraq? Clinton "compromised" and sanctioned instead, thus saving millions of lives.

There are a lot of things to be fixed, and a lot of things you are unaware of.

Of course not! We should rebuild our economy on American made bombs, dropped by Americans on competitors to American business!!!!

[-] 1 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 11 years ago

Over 1 million people died in Iraq due to the sanctions and bombs in the 90's.

the government bombed Iraq when they teamed up with the UK back in 1998 also. Would you call that war? I do.

While they didn't invade Iraq... sanctions and bombs killed over 1 million people in 90's era Iraq.

Then over 1 million were murdered in the invasion lead by Bush and his cronies.

Also Bush 1 was the accelerator of the modern downfall and the future of warmongering in the middle east after Reagan.

[-] -1 points by rpc972 (628) from Portland, OR 11 years ago

Yes, Iraqis died under sanctions, you don't think more would have died if RepubiCons got their full on invasion way?? Look how many died when they did??

Did some prankster tell you that the world was supposed to be all recess and lollipops all the time, until this black thug gangsta Obama busted all the shit up!!?? You're a plant aren't you?

Did you know that this pollution induced climate change kills untold millions, and the entire RepubliCon Cult refuses to even accept science??!

How about the untold millions who die due to lack of healthcare, that the entire RepubliCon Cult fights to keep an exclusive private privilege.

Do you even know what OSHA is? Do you know about the untold millions who die or are disabled on the job because of OSHA rules that the entire RepubliCon Cult revoked and fight to keep out??

On and on, deaths, destruction and loss caused by RepubliCons. But you exclusively focus on Dem problems and co-option of OWS by Dems. You are anti-Dem biased!

Shall we go to abortion? Millions of deaths there I don't hear you discussing. Why not? Dems are pro-choice? Cons are pro-life? Hmmmm?

And what are your solutions? Just condemn Dems? Just get rid of Obama? Certainly not Voting in the up-coming election!! So, what then??

And tell us that you are not a plant inciting inaction, Con success and Dem failure!
