Forum Post: Need help/suggestions for Iowa's occupation

Iowa just started its Occupation this week with Des Moines (the capitol) starting today. We had our General Assembly and decided upon a time everyday to hold it, 6pm. We need help figuring out what to do for sanitation (bathroom usage, cleaning, trash, etc) and welcome any suggestions. I don't want anyone to get arrested for public indecency or littering or a sexual offense charge for going to the bathroom in the wrong place.
Please let us know any of your experiences in NYC or any other cities who have already begun this movement so that I can bring it to the General Assembly tomorrow.

My suggestion is that you first contact the local city authorities to obtain a permit for the protest. This will help to keep the arrests down. Next, you need to type up a set of suggestions for protestors with locations of public bathroom facilities, trash containers, etc. If you could get a couple of EMTs or other medical personnel to standby "just in case" it would be a good idea. You never know who might have an accident or get sick. You need to get on Facebook and start a page using the title of "Occupy _" inserting the name of the city you are in for the blank. Do it as an Event and send to all of your friends. Include a note asking them to forward it. You can also start an account on Twitter. If you want to design a website for little money and with no training, you can do so for FREE at Webs.com. To keep things peaceful, it would be a good idea to first visit your local police and speak with someone in Public Affairs. Ask their input on the protest. They may not agree with your position, but they are required to give you information on how to proceed peacefully and what regulations you and the others will need to adhere to.

Last, but not least, don't listen to the naysayers. They are the bullies from high school who believe that intimidation will silence our voices. It will only do the opposite!

you could probably contact a business that will allow you to rent trash bins, tents, etcetera.
But alas, if you had to pay for something... that would promote the crony capitalism occurring throughout the country.
Do they even have people in Iowa? Without them the Occupation is doomed to fail.
