Print copies of Thoreau's essay Civil Disobedience to galvanize those present. Decide on a list of protest songs to sing together at events (music will electrify your group). print out lyrics booklets for all. Have a daily lecture by an invited voice (prof./ labour activist/ ms Corrigan etc.) Music and ideas will light the dark!

Hi there everyone. Warm greetings from Australia. Was reading the nytimes online this morning about protest songs and anthems and thought I’d make a cold (and a tad odd!) email call.

Forgive notions of self promo, but

I would like to donate the use of a song called AEIOU to the cause. I saw a pic of an OWS sign and thought that the general theme is timeless and one and the same. Written a couple of years back, but somehow timely now.

Please have a listen, and feel free to use it. I’ve included the lyrics below. If you want I can come over and sing it!

Listen here: Facebook http://www.facebook.com/johngordonsongs

cheers john gordon

ps Not even sure this is the forum to discuss this? Please pass on if not. thanks.

AEIOU

Everybody’s talkin bout how great things are You know I’m not sure that I agree All getting by in their flash new cars On their big fat salaries

Everybody’s talkin bout the money that they make Like they got some strange disease You’ll catch it if you hang around them long enough I guarantee

Everybody’s worried about the the state of the markets and the world economy About the real estate boom but there’s not enough room to put your doggy on it’s leash… I don’t understand this whole obsession with the world A fear based society You can sign up if you want to man just so long as you’re not hurtin me

There’s still a chance to understand The basic human need Don’t fall asleep Don’t follow sheep Wake up now and take the lead…

We’ve got to wrest control Got to save our mortal soul And bring it back down to earth Start a new fashion, Sculpt it from compassion Get behind it now and make it work

I don’t see the point in all this hommage that we pay To a new age of slavery You can sign up if you want to man Your wasting your time askin me

A E I O U A E I O U A E I O U (I owe you nothing… cos you don’t own me)

I don’t where I was just when when I realized Don’t know how it dawned on me But if we don’t stop and make the change, this world becomes a fate accompli…………

A E I O U A E I O U A E I O U (I owe you nothing… cos you don’t own me)

i know its not very 'march like' but IMAGINE by john lennon ..."imagine all the people, living for todayyyy...imagine there's no countries, it isn't hard to do. nothing to KILL or DIE for and no religion too. IMAGINE all the people, living life in peace...Imagine no possessions, i wonder if you can. No need for greed or hunger. A brotherhood of man, imagine all the people....sharing all the world!" OWS :)

So many years have passed The dew is still on the roses I left my childhood In a garden green

Come in the garden and look at the trees I used to play there when I was a child Squirrels and birds, little fairies Settled down there long ago

So many years have passed The dew is still on the roses I left my childhood In a garden green

Come in the garden and sit on the grass I used to sit there when I was a child Ivy and moss, little daisies Covered the lane long ago

So many years have passed The dew is still on the roses I kept my memories In that garden green

I kept my memories In that garden green

" (music will electrify your group)" I think your absolutely right. The German Revolution of 1918-19 was criticized precisely because it lacked the joy of music and was colorless because of its absence. It also failed.
