Forum Post: MSNBC is not our friend.

Posted 12 years ago on Oct. 17, 2011, 6:50 p.m. EST by frankchurch1 (839) from Jersey City, NJ
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

Rachel Maddow won't be seen with us. Ed Schultz is mostly about getting Obama elected. Sharpton is an Obama shill who disrespected Cornel West. Lawrence O'Donnell is a democratic party hack who once got schooled by Glenn Greenwald.

If you watch their website, they show Exxon Mobile commercials that are pro-fracking and Oil Sands commercials, where they use a black man to promote them. Other wonderful commercials are broadcast on their liberal shows by the wonderful Goldman Sachs.

Education Nation I don't even have to mention. Can somebody say Charter school idiots! Don't buy the liberal hype, they are not our friend. All corporate media has to be changed.

OWS is not about liberal vs conservative. Ethics is not partisan. The style of government or model of schools does not determine quality either--the people who organize and manage the programs do. OWS is about bringing ethics into action.

[-] 5 points by OurTimes2011 (377) from Arlington, VA 12 years ago

RT has the best coverage of OWS: http://rt.com/usa/news/occupy-wall-street-month-041/

[-] 1 points by MossyOakMudslinger (106) from Frederick, MD 12 years ago

Without question 100% true and they should be acknowledged for the great work they do covering OWS.

[-] 1 points by an0n (764) 12 years ago

RT is seen by many as Kremlin propaganda with the objective of destabilizing the US. The cold war has gotten more nuanced. :) Just a perspective to consider. I too like Alyona and love Thom Hartmann.

[-] 1 points by nomdeguerre (1775) from Brooklyn, NY 12 years ago

Isn't that something? That the progeny of Pravda is now one of the premier truth speakers in the U.S. Can the truth be called propaganda?

MSNBC, CNN, Fox, etc. all serve their own corpoRAT masters as well as the national power centers, Wall St. looters, the MIC and AIPAC.

oh well.

[-] 4 points by vettezeppelin (163) 12 years ago

BUT BUT BUT Before you write off MSNBC please check out Dylan Ratigan. He speaks often of the unholy alliance between Wall St. Big Corporations and our Government. More than that, he is doing something about it. He has written a Constitutional Amendment to BAN political contributions altogether! Check out: GetMoneyOut.com. It's a step in the right direction!!!

[-] 2 points by frankchurch1 (839) from Jersey City, NJ 12 years ago

He needs to have on Noam Chomsky, but yes.

[-] 2 points by MechanicalMoney (208) 12 years ago

i hope there is nothing hide behind, but well in fact :

Yes, If they give Noam Chomsky 10 minutes on MSNBC then I'll believe they are on the people's side

[-] 1 points by frankchurch1 (839) from Jersey City, NJ 12 years ago

It wouldn't hurt..lol

[-] 3 points by epow (3) 12 years ago

Probably there should be a democratic, non-profit making public media.

[-] 3 points by insidervoice (21) 12 years ago

The Occupy movement would do very well to get a spokes person half as articulate as Rachel Maddow or Ed Schultz. This movement needs to be powerful in number and clear in its message. This message will appeal to one political party or another. My guess is that it will be much closer to the liberal/progressive arm of the Democratic Party.

[-] 2 points by hotdoghenry (268) 12 years ago

Ed Schultz is articulate? Bahwaaaaaaahhhhhhh!

Sufferin Succotash where is Daffy Duck when you need him?

[-] 3 points by MyHeartSpits (448) 12 years ago

Biggest problem with MSNBC is they play into the media's game of dividing the country between liberal and conservative. It's all Fox lies, republicans are wrong. This is the same game that every news channel plays, and it's killing this country.

[-] 2 points by frankchurch1 (839) from Jersey City, NJ 12 years ago

Facts are facts.

[-] 3 points by Nicolas (258) from Québec, QC 12 years ago

I think people would do well to remember that first little round table on #OWS with Maher and others on MSNBC. Remember the smug condescension, remember the petty attacks, the sickening dismissal. Remember that when they inevitably join, and remember they don't stand for you. You stand for yourself and make them listen.

Except Grayson. He was totally cool.

[-] 2 points by an0n (764) 12 years ago

Just a correction, because I agree MSNBC is NOT the "liberal media" but is innately conservative and market-oriented like the rest:

Maher is not on MSNBC, and, except for Grayson, the other guests on that show were conservatives.

[-] 1 points by Nicolas (258) from Québec, QC 12 years ago

I'm pretty sure that ... linky!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQnSu0DG3Oo&feature=related

I kinda liked Maher. But his business has been despair for a while, and #OWS isn't good for that business. He comes around quick, be he still initially digs in as much as the others in the "Let's all mock the silly little people who think they can change things! Ah! And without us!"

... And that might not be MSNBC. I get confused with all your news and pseudo news channels. And they keep inviting each other to all their shows.

GAH! Listen to the woman. She out right says the problem with #OWS is that it's members don't know to shut up and let their organizers tell them why they are there.

[-] 2 points by thebeastchasingitstail (1912) 12 years ago

And Maher is a comedian, first and foremost. That needs to be remembered, he will say what sells and what makes his audience laugh.

He's a social critic but a comedian first.

[-] 2 points by an0n (764) 12 years ago

HBO - it's a pay channel that used to be mostly movies... The woman is a Republican political operative and I forget who the other guy is - but a conservative. I agree Grayson kicks ass, BTW.

[-] 1 points by Nicolas (258) from Québec, QC 12 years ago

Thanks for the info.

[-] 2 points by tr289 (916) from Chicago, IL 12 years ago

Dylan Ratigan is the only one on MSNBC that supports the OWS movement.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qI_P3pxze5w&feature

[-] 2 points by frankchurch1 (839) from Jersey City, NJ 12 years ago

The other ones are worried that it is anti-Obama.

[-] 2 points by an0n (764) 12 years ago

Has anyone watched O'Donnell's coverage of OWS, by chance? I mostly agree with this otherwise, except that the anti-OWS bias can be characterized as "liberal." Corporate transcends liberal and conservative.

[-] 1 points by frankchurch1 (839) from Jersey City, NJ 12 years ago

He talks more about Herman Cain and his idiotic 999 program and Mitt Romney. The Chris Christie pornography was bad enough, or talking about Sarah Palin all the time, just because her stupid name gets ratings.

[-] 1 points by an0n (764) 12 years ago

But at least not in support of any of those people. He's a take-down artist taking down the bad guys as he sees them. He's a corporate shill, no doubt, but I do draw a major distinction with Fox.

[-] 1 points by OccupyNews (1220) 12 years ago

MSNBC helped get Barack Obama past Hillary Clinton in 2008. Hillary Clinton was going to help fix the home foreclosure problem, Obama just had a speech.

[-] 1 points by frankchurch1 (839) from Jersey City, NJ 12 years ago

Ed Schultz is better on the movement, but why in God's name is he having on the crazy Bill Cunningham on his show tonight?

Cunningham is a crazy from Cincinnati--he's the one who brought up the Hussein Obama flap. The guy's a dirtbag racist. Ed, nooo.

[-] 1 points by davebrestensky (59) 12 years ago

ya right

[-] 1 points by frankchurch1 (839) from Jersey City, NJ 12 years ago

Last night Rachel did zero stories on the movement, but kept talking about stupid ass Rick Perry.

Even fucking Charlie Rose has more stones than this sellout.

[-] 1 points by davebrestensky (59) 12 years ago

Come on man do you really think she against this movement. Quit thinking about yourself and think of EVERYONE for a change. I'm not bad mouthing you but NSMBC has been nothing but on our side. Lighten up.

[-] 1 points by metapolitik (1110) 12 years ago

Typical Democrats.

Or as I like to call them "Republican Lite"

More on this here:

http://occupywallst.org/forum/why-you-should-not-under-any-circumastances-re-ele/

[-] 1 points by frankchurch1 (839) from Jersey City, NJ 12 years ago

Yea, remind me of assholes like Joe Klein.

We're onto all you mainstream media shitholes.

[-] 1 points by metapolitik (1110) 12 years ago

bump

Although I have to agree with Mr. Klein in his occasionally scathing attacks on Republifuks.

[-] 1 points by subotica (1) 12 years ago

i keep on turning on msnbc expecting to see "occupy" at least as one of the top 2 or 3 stories. - nope. - perry's new tax plan, romney's religion, koch brother contributions, cain's campaign advisor is a smoker with a sordid history... - this is such bullshit! i do have some advice: watch RT - russia today - ...it's ALWAYS their top story!, and has been ever since the fist week! - interesting, huh? - and let's all of us support real media innovations like wikileaks and julian assange who major corporate imperialists are trying to blockade and make obsolete.

  • cheers!
[-] 1 points by frankchurch1 (839) from Jersey City, NJ 12 years ago

The Koch story polls well on the liberal blogs..lol

The movement is the number one progressive story--don't you fucking get that Rachel!

[-] 1 points by abmebratu (349) from Washington, DC 12 years ago

MSNBS is trying to hijack this movement for the democratic party. They are worried about our motives because remember they are also part of the 1%. They want to consul us to take a more softer approach. This by the way is code word for making the 1% feel comfortable.........So yes, I agree with your statement. We should milk the MSNBC coverage as much as possible, but never, ever put all our eggs in this bag. We must remain independent.

[-] 1 points by Banjarama (242) from Little Elm, TX 12 years ago

word

[-] 1 points by sandman34m (8) from Morris, IL 12 years ago

so true

[-] 1 points by RichardGates (1529) 12 years ago

hold on there buddy. them not showing up is a show of respect. they do not want to corrupt this movement but they have the most coverage and state only what they observe. http://mojoe.msnbc.msn.com/

[-] 1 points by frankchurch1 (839) from Jersey City, NJ 12 years ago

We do need media attention, that's the point.

[-] 1 points by sandman34m (8) from Morris, IL 12 years ago

All media only wants us to see what they want us to see. The right is as bad as the left. Watched john stosel debunk this movement by saying we are against capitalism. He said that the pourest of us still live better then kings of the past. So do you think Kings of the past said.."you peasents dont live in caves like the cavemen did...be happy now, and give me everything you own so i can be a rich king" they probably did now that i think about it

[-] 1 points by sandman34m (8) from Morris, IL 12 years ago

TY..TY..TY..Im a business owner and a republican and you have no idea how many of my friends have de-friended me on facebook because i support this movement and they believe this is a leftist movement!!!. Ty...ty..ty..for staying true to the cause....WE ARE THE 99%

[-] 1 points by frankchurch1 (839) from Jersey City, NJ 12 years ago

A good idea, since small business is being crushed by corporations. Small town America is being made into a ghost town by Wal-Mart and Target.

Join the club. No more exclusion in the club, as long as you are nice to blacks, gays and immigrants.

[-] 1 points by sandman34m (8) from Morris, IL 12 years ago

wtf

[-] 1 points by bizel36 (16) from Virginia Beach, VA 12 years ago

the media is bought and paid for by those who we are standing up against of course they will have nothing to do with supporting the cause or reporting factual news about the cause.

[-] 1 points by MichaelMoosman (48) from Murray, UT 12 years ago

Anderson Cooper is okay

[-] 1 points by MossyOakMudslinger (106) from Frederick, MD 12 years ago

frankchurch1 ,

MSNBC is not our friend. You are right. All of those people you list are good people and good democrats and I would include Chris Matthews too. But they are the station of the democratic party.

Even Rachel who I used to watch is not very watchable anymore.

I am an RT guy all the way now, I have said many times here they are the only TV outlet that gives OWS the coverage it deserves. They have covered it from day 1. In fact in a certain way they are like the "voice" of the movement. Alyona Minkovski deserves a journalism emmy for the work she has done covering OWS and Max Keiser is a must watch by every member of OWS who want to understand the inner workings of the Wall Street crime syndicate. It is by far the best station on TV. I think that if the members of this movement watched Max's videos for a month, they would arrive at a consensus set of demands very quickly.

Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian of the Young Turks have done a great job with OWS coverage and to me are the best internet news outlet for OWS.

All those at RT and TYT are infinitely superior to anything the MSM has to offer.

[-] 1 points by jpbarbieux (137) from Palmetto Bay, FL 12 years ago

MSNBC = education, Fox news= distorted propaganda.

Main stream news, always a day late.

[-] 1 points by MyHeartSpits (448) 12 years ago

Completely agree with you. No mainstream "news" channel could be our friend.

[-] 1 points by frankchurch1 (839) from Jersey City, NJ 12 years ago

Too be honest, I posted this so they would do better reporting. We do need them, since some of their programming can be quite good. Fox bashed them all the time, so they must be doing something right.

NBC news obviously hates us. Meet The Press had on zero occupiers.

[-] 1 points by MyHeartSpits (448) 12 years ago

I'm not at all hopeful, considering who owns MSNBC.

[-] 1 points by frankchurch1 (839) from Jersey City, NJ 12 years ago

Dylan Ratigan supports us.

[-] 1 points by MyHeartSpits (448) 12 years ago

He's the only person I like on MSNBC. Even Maddow plays the divisive game of the mainstream media, though she is mostly factual in the process.

[-] 1 points by Hellomynameis (243) from Aptos, CA 12 years ago

Martin Bashir has his moments... =D

[-] 1 points by Flsupport (578) 12 years ago

Just continue.....continue and take help where it comes......you wont get any from Fox, thats for sure. Worry about the fight and the big picture.

[-] 1 points by Flsupport (578) 12 years ago

Corporate media does not have to be changed because there is a freedom of the press. If we support our own freedom of speech, we must support freedom of the press. If you dont like the commercials or whatever, watch something else.

[-] 1 points by PROTESSTONER (70) from New York, NY 12 years ago

Unfortunately we really have lost much of our 'free press'. With the consolidation of ownership in the media there are no different voices heard. EVERYTHING is corporate media. It's not only about the commercials its about the information getting out. Reagan did away with the Fairness Doctrine and we've suffered ever since. He started the deregulations and we've suffered since. He rolled back taxes on the top and we've suffered ever since. So, yes, Corporate Media DOES need to be changed.

[-] 2 points by Flsupport (578) 12 years ago

Im ok with the fairness doctrine and believe the best place to get news right now is NPR......but aside from the fairness doctrine I woulnt try to force press changes unless you want to be savaged by all of them right now, not just Fox

[-] 1 points by PROTESSTONER (70) from New York, NY 12 years ago

I just want some journalism. NOT a transcriber. When one of them starts on a proven lie, push back. Do Fact Checks. For gods sake keep an iPad and google. IT's Not That Hard.

do your job fourth estate or get out

[-] 1 points by ChicagoRocks (24) from Morton Grove, IL 12 years ago

MSNBC ain't nobody's friend. Unless you like fiction. Their programming is abysmal. News fiction for dummies.

Glad you are not embracing MSNBC, but maybe for the wrong reasons.

[-] 1 points by PlasmaStorm (242) 12 years ago

Why do they have to be changed? Because they don't support Occupy Wall Street?

[-] 1 points by frankchurch1 (839) from Jersey City, NJ 12 years ago

They sure do, too bad they love the truthers so much.

Thom Hartman's show on there is a must see for all activists.

[-] 0 points by OTP (-203) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

There is no more of a shameful shill on the left than Sharpton. Is is the liberal version of Rush Limbaugh.

Fuck the MSM.

[-] -1 points by number2 (914) 12 years ago

MSNBC represents the democrat party. Fox represents the republican party. OWS represents 99% of the people, which is a mixed bunch. None of the media could possibly represent OWS

[-] 1 points by frankchurch1 (839) from Jersey City, NJ 12 years ago

Democracynow. Support them.

[-] 1 points by number2 (914) 12 years ago

let them support us. We are bigger than all of them.
