We Americans here-by assert our duty to alter our current form of government. The abuses of the last two decades have led to vast inequality, and the destruction of the American middle-class. We require prompt action to right these injustices.

The majority are downtrodden, with tens of millions un or under-employed while major corporations built upon their backs post record profits. Our financial system is broken, our schools, failing, healthcare for millions is out of reach and our brothers and sisters and children are homeless and hungry, many living from cars and tents.

My ancestors, and many many others, died defending the inalienable rights this country was founded to protect. We have let them down. We must not continue to allow our government to undo the work of these brave men. We must not let their struggle and sacrifice be in vain.

The people are justifiably angry. It is ok to be upset. It is ok to expect more from your government. We don't ask for something we do not deserve. Only for the ability to live life without being forced to choose shelter or food, heat or medicine. We DESERVE better. We DEMAND more.

Any failure traceable to arrogance, or our lack of comprehension, or readiness to sacrifice would inflict upon us grievous hurt, both at home and abroad. - Eisenhower

Please take time to educate yourself, and your neighbors, friends, relatives, and children. Compassion for your fellow Americans and a willingness to listen and courage to stand up and be heard, these are the tools for success.

This is a noted philosopher and Harvard professor discussing the inequality and some social implications: http://fora.tv/2011/07/08/Michael_Sandel_Government_and_the_Common_Good#fullprogram

This is a 4 part documentary that won some awards, really well done, and it helps you get a sense of what people around the world are feeling: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWU65Zbka4E

This has been circulated on the forum as one idea of how to improve things, it a bit slow to start but you'll get into it if you give it a chance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swkq2E8mswI

And finally, a great, short video from BBC news this week. It is a trader telling it how it is, kind of refreshing and terrifying at the same time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aC19fEqR5bA

Many other resources are available from people here. Now is the time for change, before it gets worse.

two decades? agree with most but your timing is way off. try the New Deal.....

[-] 1 points by npowell85 (249) from Montana City, Mt 12 years ago

hopefully that doesn't detract from the message

[-] 1 points by anon123 (23) 12 years ago

well.....the only point being get the politics out of the debate. That's all I'm trying to provoke by my reply. We've been screwed by left and right. Sometimes misguided good intentions and sometimes not. I really don't care anymore. Just get the money and the politics out of democracy....and reopen capitalism, :)

[-] 1 points by npowell85 (249) from Montana City, Mt 12 years ago

yeah definitely. I'm not trying to be political. actually I believe, without considering it too long, that we have had a pretty even split of control between the two parties in that timeframe. 91-92 Rep 93-2000 Dem 2001-2008 Rep 2009-present Dem... Fuck them both is my view. Anyone who subscribes to the idea that there are only two sides to ANY argument is either stupid or has an agenda

[-] 1 points by anon123 (23) 12 years ago

and the agenda is (has been) control......by both sides. Welcome to America. Land of the Free. :)

perhaps the greatest myth ever perpetrated on so many people in one place in any one time in history. I love the idea......and hate the place.....modern servitude at best.

[-] 1 points by npowell85 (249) from Montana City, Mt 12 years ago

it may not be the land of the free, yet. but it is definitely the home of the brave.

I was going more for the time when wages stopped rising and the corporate profit began to skyrocket. But you are right, it has been building for a very long time.

In 2004, Steve Earle said, "The Revolution Starts Now". Guess he was just a few years ahead of his time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5wdnLzjQ1s
