Low Tech is a non-profit organization that educates people about the effects of technology. Low Tech organizes presentations, meetings, workshops, classes, speeches, discussions and other events.

Each year governments, corporations, consumers and other people around the world spend trillions of dollars on new technology and space travel. The money that is spent on new technology and space travel should be spent on helping the poor.

Low Tech is a social movement. Low Tech's main message is that the creation, invention, production, distribution and use of new technology should stop and that space travel should stop.

You can start a Low Tech group in your area without permission and without having to communicate with other Low Tech groups.

To contact Low Tech send an email to lowtech1980@gmail.com

Technology has done many wonderful things in the past thirty years, it has also been misused or used badly. For instance, I think Facebook is an example of how vain people can be. Also mega databases allow peoples lives to tracked and profiled by government. Industry continues to use technology to reduce jobs. As much as we may enjoy technology, it has a increasingly dark side.

I doubt we'll be able to slow down technology. We need to understand how it is used. I would love to see some of the monies redirected to more urgent needs.

It does seem as tho we have more than enough complicated technology that demands ever more mining to say nothing of the incredible amount of energy it uses. In some countries local people are enslaved to mine for war lords. I do not use a cell phone because of the mining practices. Recycling is somewhat helpful but not the total answer. I say reducing and reusing are better. Maybe we can't go back to the way life was centuries ago but where does continued growth in people, energy and resource gobbling-up lead to? An even more unhappy world I suspect. By the way if you have a website there are solar and wind powered hosts.
