The Communist Party of Cuba has approved the establishment of 222 worker cooperatives throughout the island nation. "Cooperatives will be introduced into food service ventures, agricultural markets, 'technical and personal services,' fisheries, and water management services."
The move is part of the Cuban governments to boost the economy through collective arrangements that include worker ownership. You can read the full article at http://www.peoplesworld.org/cuba-s-new-experimental-urban-cooperatives/
I thought they did this 50 years ago. What took 'em so long?
Over the past several years Cuba has moved away from state-owned enterprises toward collectively owned enterprises. That movement is a progression from a "socialist" state toward communism.
Ok. good luck to them. If anyone can do it they could.
They have got longevity on their side !
Cuban Life Expectancy > / = US !!
ad iudicium ...
Long live the cuban people!
SOLIDARITY & Friendship to Cubans & The Global 99% !!!
nunc et semper ; hic et ubique ...
We need to agitate lifting the embargo. We need to start a process of un-demonization of the communist word/ideology. We need to view the Cuban struggle against a huge powerful aggressive neighbor trying to destroy them as a testament to human survival. Their struggle against Spain before as well.
So much of their history has been about fighting the colonial/imperialist planetary villains. And emerging with much success.
Lift the embargo! Enulate the health care system!
Q.E.D !!! Love ; Logic ; Light !! I <3 IT !
fiat lux ...
Et facta est lux. Et vidit Deus lucem quod esset bona...
De profundis et e tenebris - lux ~:-)
ok snarah
The phrase is from the Vulgate roughly translated: "And there was light. And God saw that it was good." (Gen 1:3)
Sorry about that.
I gathered and thanks
Please consider : "Ecce Homo" et ergo ....
fiat pax ; nunc et semper ; hic et ubique !!!
I like the idea of peace, a world without drones and bombs and assassination teams.
"Multidisciplinary teams based in universities and research institutions currently are designing the new cooperatives."
College students like those affiliated with the PIRGs would be the logical human resource for starting a Cooperative Employment Service in the US. They have both the ambition and the acedemic resources to get it done.
Yes, and the best people to design the future are those who will live in it.
That is really interesting. Thanks.
Ironic that as countries like Cuba, China, Vietnam move toward freer societies, our "side of the world" is inching toward totalitarianism.
Isn't that the sad truth?
