Right now the rich use our 70,000 page tax code to take advantage of every possible loophole. A flat tax would actually collect more revenue through the wealthy
If there is one thing that I would change today - it would be to place a cap on the % of taxes that could be collected at any level of government.
Say: 10% federal, 7% state, 5% local. NO Barrowing.
This would provide a steady source of income at each level depending upon how well that level was doing, AND it would force each level to live and adjust within its means.
Individuals have to do this. Individuals adjust their income according to where they elect to work, how many hours they work, etc.
Feds, you can't get the economy going? You live within what you are entitled to - no discussions and stalemates over raising or lowering taxes - just live with it.
States do this now. Our state cannot borrow money. They are forced to balance their budget. Take away their right to increase their tax rate and they would not have a choice about how to raise more funds if it was needed.
Not a bad argument. 10% flat tax for ALL income earners. In addition, perhaps a tax on consumer goods. And throw the tax code out the window. I actually find myself agreeing with a socialist?!
