Yeah, I was a Libertarian back at the turn of the century and they convinced me that we had a "new" kind of economy but I'm starting to think they were really wrong about that.

However, I don't think it's quite as B&W as you seem to be indicating it is because services are necessary to support and facilitate the production of finished goods. We get that where I work (as a computer programmer) all the time. The sales people think they're the real heart and soul of the company and we're just leaches but the marketers think the same thing and so do the engineers and the only people who don't seem to think that are us and the people who probably are the REAL heart and soul of the company: The guys who build our wheelchairs. The WORKERS.

How do you suppose America returns to production when it's being outsourced to Mexico and China? When you figure that out, please call Congress... because they're still working on that issue.

Unfortunately, it will probably require tariffs but I think there are people who know a lot more about economics than I do who might be able to figure out some better alternatives.

I'm not an economist but you don't have to be to see a few of the problems, the first one being the notion that "the US must be able to compete in a global market". Why? "Made In America" used to mean something. We were (and still could be) able to produce everything we need/want right here in the states... if our jobs weren't going overseas.

Free Trade: it's bad. Allegedly, it promotes competition but it's a pipe dream to consider that companies like Ford won't just use free trade to manufacture their cars in Mexico for a lot less cost then market them back to the US. Personally, if it's not made in America, it should be heavily taxed, but the real economists feel that, in doing so, our exports would be heavily taxed likewise. So what? Corps are the only entities that benefit from free trade, maximizing their revenues at the expense of the American jobs market as they abandon us for cheap labor abroad.

There's so much wrong with the entire system, from shady ungoverned banking to zero tax revenue on imports with major developing countries to out-sourcing the entirety of America. There's no sense to any of it unless those we've elected are just as on the take as those abandoning their national heritage in moving out of the US.

Competing in a global economy! Pffft. Most US citizens can't even compete in their own economy.

I'm starting to think you're probably right. I'm not 100% convinced yet because tariffs are a pretty tough way to go but there has to be some way to stop the outsourcing.

And who does this "service" economy service? Yeah m8 you already got it - the 1%! Keep sticking these facts to the idiots who don't realise it!

Question: how much does resource conrol contribute to our ability to produce our own goods?

Gee, no kidding. We 99%ers know that already. Tell it to the CEOs that moved the manufacturing jobs to fuckin' China. Tell it to the wall st. assholes. Be sure to scream it till they get a fuckin' clue, alright?
