Forum Post: List of Demands and Why the Middle Class isn't getting behind OWS

I am surrounded by middle class working people, most are mildly (a few are rather staunch) Republican but many are Democrats too, and when the topic of OWS comes up they now advocate police force against OWS or at a minimum ambivalence. When I object and defend the movement they point to all these bogus deceptive manifestos and lists of demands that are obviously written and distributed to discredit the movement. This tactic of mislabeling an unknown person or entity is an old trick meant to shut down an unknown/new movement. IMO, unfortunately you will have to establish a clear set of goal and objectives before your movement can really gain any steam and foothold. Your message, as I see it, is pure and long overdue, essentially that corporations and mega wealthy should not be allowed to virtually enslave the American people using corrupt methods designed to undermine our constitutional (and human) rights. - Guy in the Thoid Row

The reason that the middle class is not getting behind OWS is because they are reasonable people who love the country they live in.

There are more clear objectives than the media will allow on the mainstream news, and the middle class are not generally the type of people that will look for alternate internet news or the OWS website to see that there is a direction evolving. Nor will they get themselves down to where the protesters are demonstrating. The elite and the media are counting on this. The irony is that the protesters are at the street level trying to claim freedoms back for the middle class..the very people that aren't giving them enough support. I suppose its that the middle class isn't hurting enough yet. Hopefully the middle class will live long enough to be able to thank the protesters when they realize what was at stake.

Believe it or not, there are a lot of middle class who support the OWS but are tied to their desks because of financial responsibilities.

They may not support it now but they or their children will. If the greed in this country is left unchecked there will be no "middle" class. Eventually this fact will become clear to them.

Maybe it will happen when their children have to move back home as grown adults.

They never enslaved you, you enslaved yourself by bending to their laws for so long.
