What ever made anyone think people would pay over $40k for a chevy? No one could stop sales if it were a decent car for the price.

[-] 3 points by francismjenkins (3713) 12 years ago

The Volt is not axed completely. Production was suspended for five weeks, but (at least according to GM) it will resume. They obviously sold less cars than anticipated (of course the sticker price of the car is pretty high, but it's GM's first run at a serious hybrid gas saver). The concept is good, but unfortunately battery range isn't too hot (so unless you do your driving exclusively in a city, you'll probably wind up using your gas engine more often than electric). When the Volt is running on gasoline, it's mph is I think 35 city/40 hwy. Pretty decent, but any number of other small cars can get you the same fuel efficiency (without the sticker shock). Even other GM cars (like the Cruze) can get you the same fuel efficiency for like half the price (assuming you're not a city driver, only driving very short distances).

And even for city drivers who are looking for electric, the Nissan Leaf is a great option. However, "electric only" has its problems, namely, we don't yet have the infrastructure to support it. Ideally, we'd have "fast charge" devices all over the place (where you can at least get a partial charge, in a matter of minutes, wherever you go). Of course then we'll need enough electricity to handle this (maybe thorium reactors or some shit, which could be coming in the not so distant future).

If you ask me, we do need government regulations and subsidies to get this off the ground (and probably significant public investment in infrastructure).

[-] -1 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

And we need to snuff Limbaugh's voice so he can't take them down!

[-] 2 points by francismjenkins (3713) 12 years ago

The sooner that fat fucking blow hard shuts the fuck the better :)

Yes, for Rush, I had to use fuck twice in one sentence!

[-] 2 points by brightonsage (4494) 12 years ago

You can't claim to be ALL powerful and not be ALL responsible, can you?

[+] -4 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

OMG

With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility.

But hell the greedy corrupt will never go for that.

They would be concerned that Accountability might also be expected.

[-] 4 points by brightonsage (4494) 12 years ago

Oh, noooo, Not that A....... thing?

Here is a tidbit for you DKA. 'Parrish Cox (NFL player) Not guilty after DNA proved, sexual contact with woman who claims was unconscious. Pregnancy was a gift from GOD'.

Does this mean rape is a gift from GOD? Is that why it is such a much used policy in the Middle East? I just can't understand some of these things. You gotta help me.

[+] -4 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Well if it's not emaculate, it's not a gift from God.

If you are a woman and you get stoned to death it is not a gift from God.

If you have money it must have been a gift from God, because the greedy corrupt do not pay for that stuff.

It's a law isn't it?

[-] 2 points by brightonsage (4494) 12 years ago

Not just a good idea,,, it's the LAW.

Thanks, it's just ever so much clearer to me now.

But if rape were a gift from GOD, can you just imagine all of the other natural, political and financial disasters and plagues and locusts and frogs that would also likely be gifts as well? And, where would it all end? Golly, it just boggles the mind. I'll think about that tomorrow.

[+] -4 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Well if rape were considered a gift from God. I would certainly hope that women would know that I am not a believer and that all women were well armed at all times of the day and night. For those who would be believers ( men ) I would hope that they were slow on their feet and that the women had exceptionally quick reflexes and uncannily good aim.

[-] 2 points by brightonsage (4494) 12 years ago

Sounds like a much improved Irish toast.

I have often thought that evolution should eventually bring about a swap in certain parts and then the shoe would be on the other foot, so to speak.

Walk a mile.... with permission, of course.

[+] -4 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Yes if only that could be done to the rapists. Selective replacement of victim. Hell have it so they abused themselves instead of some innocent would be a perfect justice.

[-] 2 points by brightonsage (4494) 12 years ago

Hermaphrodites? Well, they exist. In snails they couple both ways, as I recall from high school biology

Seriously, this is such as huge problem in all cultures it has gotta be a priority to figure out a solution. All of these system supporters don't even want to discuss this one.

[+] -4 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

It is always the woman's fault.

You know why?

Because it is a boys club:

Hell I could not keep it in my pants - Stone Her!

But hey she really does not look like she enjoyed it I think you broke her arm and jaw.

It's not my fault the she devil temptress made me do it - Stone Her.

All right all right . . . if I agree will you promise to back me up the same way?.....you see there is this really beautiful woman and she will have nothing to do with me................

[-] 2 points by brightonsage (4494) 12 years ago

And how many times has that deal been made? e to the nth power?

[+] -4 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

What since the beginning of time?

Well take a penny for each instance ( no interest added ) and you might be able to pay off the national debt.

[-] 2 points by brightonsage (4494) 12 years ago

But what would we do with all of the surplus?

[+] -4 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Exactly.

This has been a public service announcement.

And so: The more you know...........................

[+] -4 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Well what can you expect from they. They are known to hang around with THEM.

[-] 3 points by brightonsage (4494) 12 years ago

You know, I have never trusted them. Even before I knew them, I didn't trust them. And if I ever meet them I still ain't gonna trust them because I have heard things. Well, you know, nothing was ever proved, but still, where there is conjecture, there is speculation. And where there is speculation there could be smoke, and we all know where that goes. So, I'm just sayin'.....You can't be too careful, especially with folks like THEM.

[+] -4 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

LOL.

I think it would be OK to splurge on a round or three. Reason to celebrate and good medicinally you know.

[-] 2 points by brightonsage (4494) 12 years ago

Well OK, then. And they said you were unreasonable. Pshaw! Warn't true.

[+] -4 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Infrastructure in implementing true green technology - towards a new fuel base, then fund the clean-up and restoration of toxic sites made from coal waste strip mining and such things.

[-] 2 points by brightonsage (4494) 12 years ago

I was hoping for free beer. But green tech is good. And toxic waste is bad. And sure, fly ash sludge is awful. But I really was hoping for a free beer. That is how shallow some of us are. Craft brewed is good. And it's bio degradable. See!

[-] 1 points by betuadollar (-313) 12 years ago

You are speaking to our history. You do realize that, right? There was a time when this was a world without law.

[-] 2 points by SmeggitySpooge (78) 12 years ago

It's well documented that the batteries explode and catch fire for well over three years now. GM has worked hard to keep it a secret but, I'm sure that fat caulk sucker decided GM wasn't paying him enough to keep the scam alive and ratted them out.........

[-] 2 points by factsrfun (8310) from Phoenix, AZ 12 years ago

I guess if you work buliding something Rush opposes, you're screwed, is that why we don't have more jobs installing rooftop solar?

[-] -1 points by Unwashed (-141) 12 years ago

Have you bought one? They're not selling because people don't want them, and that's even after a huge and wasted government subsidy.

[-] -1 points by craigdangit (326) 12 years ago

I almost bought some of the SoIyn dra ones at auction, they were selling at fire sale prices. But is seems so wrong to bid on stolen property.

[-] -1 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

He has four million daily listeners, he pretty much controls the entire economy. Whatever he says, they do.

[-] 1 points by factsrfun (8310) from Phoenix, AZ 12 years ago

He started losing advertisers after he last dust up and he backed down, he's just about the money

[-] 0 points by engineer4 (331) 12 years ago

"controls the economy". Do you live in this country? A statement like that pretty much removes your credibility.

[-] 1 points by JesseHeffran (3903) 12 years ago

Actually, I believe the media have more a role in setting federal and state policy then the gov't does. Public opinion is what drives policy. Who creates public opinion? As a person who studied Journalism and political science, I believe that the Rupert Murdocks of the world have more leverage on the economy than politicians, and there is data to back up my claim.

[-] 1 points by engineer4 (331) 12 years ago

I agree that media plays a key role in moving opinion that then sets in motion policy changes, but an informed and educated society has the responsibility to interpret the information ( fact vs fiction) and then act accordingly. Besides the media, there are groups that feed the data to them, so they do perform as a pass through of this information, based on the bias they choose to give it. You would agree that all sides feed this data to their respective media outlets that tend to bias the news or op eds towards their agendas. Most people don't receive any news from their politicians, only repeats of the parts they want to use to thier advantage.

[-] 1 points by JesseHeffran (3903) 12 years ago

both sides are guilty. Yes, the citizenry needs to be more proactive in their consumption of media. It may feel good to tune into channels that agree with your world view, but usually those channels are only painting half, some times a sliver, of the picture.

[-] 1 points by engineer4 (331) 12 years ago

Here is a question for you based on your background. Do you believe that there are any unbiased news sources or media outlets? IMHO I would say no, but maybe that some are less than others. Of course the viewer may think that his source is unbiased and all others belong to the other side! I do like reading news from other countries, i used to do that alot when i traveled to europe about once a month. Thanks for the discussion.

[-] 1 points by JesseHeffran (3903) 12 years ago

The least bias news program, I'd say, would be the Washington journal on C-span. I say this because not only do you get to hear the average person's interpretation of what the major news papers, NY Times, Wall Street Journal, US Today, have written, but they do a great job of having different party perspectives on each day. Also if you wan't to get the dirt on what our nation is doing internationally, BBC is a good place to start. For some reason our news agencies only report the official story, whether this is out of laziness or fidelity, I am not sure. I like current TV but am cognizant that it is progressively slanted. But that's the side of the tracks I've pitch my tent so I'm ok with it. I even watch a little fox just to get a taste for what the loons are saying, lol. Every news agency sees its self as a self interested institution, defending its prerogatives; therefore, it is hard to find one that does not toe a party line.

[-] 1 points by engineer4 (331) 12 years ago

I have the BBC app on my iPad. Also agree with WSJ as I like their writing style. I also read the Economist. Not that fond of the NYT but like The Washington Post. I will watch ABC and FOX. Just can't watch MSNBC. As with you, I also try multiple sources to get some balance but it does take effort, which I think most people are unwilling to do.

[-] 1 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

Okay fine, mister semantics, he controls 4/300ths of the economy completely. The point is, he wields a tremendous amount of power among his lemming listeners.

[-] 1 points by engineer4 (331) 12 years ago

But that would also apply to the opposite side, the bill mahrs, etc. There was no semantics in my statement, just fact. Please do the same so discussion becomes constructive and less combative.

[-] 0 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

You and your "facts"... getting in the way of drumming up hatred against the right... Why are you so analytical and factual? Sheesh.

Bill Mahr is supporting Ron Paul. He's not in the left. And even if he was, left wingers are son independent they would never ever do anything blindly that their leaders told them to, so it's different from the right.

[-] -1 points by Unwashed (-141) 12 years ago

Make a statement, buy a Volt. Oh, you won't you say? Why not? LOL.

[-] 1 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

Are you kidding me? Those things only get like 40 miles on a charge. I'm not wasting my money.

[-] 0 points by Unwashed (-141) 12 years ago

Exactly. No one else is either and not because of Rush Limbaugh. It's a crummy product that costs too much. It's yet another failed government program to give us things we don't want.

[-] 0 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

If it costs too much, then we need to subsidize them, not let them go under and lay off workers. That's un-american.

[-] 0 points by Unwashed (-141) 12 years ago

But it doesn't cost too much. Compare birth control to the other fun stuff people spend money on. Fun stuff is for their money, not fun stuff is for someone else's. There's no reason for a middle class birth control entitlement.

[-] 0 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

I was speaking of the Chevy Volt. If something isn't working, it generally means there is not enough federal money being thrown at it.

[-] -2 points by skylar (-441) 12 years ago

That's a fact.

[-] 2 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

Revel in your lack of information, it's the best you can do.

Ditto FLAKESnews.

Which would make you a pawn of what?

[-] 0 points by B76RT (-357) 12 years ago

flail on , flail on. you're still a "usfeul idiot/pawn" of ows.

[-] 0 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

Better that, than an ineffectual boob like yourself, who thinks the words of big fat liar are the truth about anything at all..

i think recall is politic pinch bar. this happens with Toyota years ago. toyota build as very simple car, but i never actually see or heard in person, that they have such problems with brakes

[-] 0 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

Of course they have problems with brakes, they are the only automaker that is owned 100% by the public sector.

[-] 1 points by timirninja (263) 12 years ago

so? toyota and lexus are made in US. so why dont GM play fair game?

[-] 1 points by FreeDiscussion5 (12) 12 years ago

I thought Obama was going to buy two of them

[-] 0 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

Al gore bought six dozen, for his entourage.

To follow him in his limo to the airport to fly on a corporate jet and then return to his 30,000 sq ft HOME?

[-] 0 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

Yeah.... What about it? Are you calling into question the carbon footprint of The Great Climate Seer?

[-] 1 points by FreeDiscussion5 (12) 12 years ago

What????? There would be NO WAY he would leave behind a carbon footprint. I would be the CORPORATE JETS he will fly around the world in are all solar powered.

New York City Chevy dealers dont want any Volts, and no one in that liberal loony bin listens to Rush.

Nope, the Volt is a failure all on its own.

[-] 1 points by alexrai (851) 12 years ago

ha you think politicians get kick backs, I bet this tool has people showing up at his office throwing stacks of cash at him. "Hey Rush, we don't like electric cars, bad for business, here's 10K and an all expense paid trip to the bunny ranch in Nevada to do something about it."

[-] 0 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

Exactly, we need to limit corporate speech so that this will stop happ--- Oh wait, it will happen no matter what.

[-] 0 points by betuadollar (-313) 12 years ago

I see the decision for bailout as a GOP decision. But Chevy, due to its horrific mismanagement (the Volt is a prime example) is destined for the scrap heap.

[-] 0 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

What did the GOP have to do with it?

[-] 0 points by betuadollar (-313) 12 years ago

They owned the issue; they have always owned this sentiment of favor towards American automakers. It was always the "liberals" who were buying imports.

[-] 0 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

So while the Democrats controlled both houses of Congress and the White house in mid-2009, the GOP somehow managed to orchestrate an automotive bailout?

[-] 0 points by betuadollar (-313) 12 years ago

You know yourself, Obama weighed the political consequences of sinking Chevy.

The GOP would have done exactly the same thing; this was not the first bailout of the auto industry.

[-] 0 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

Darn you Republicans!! You've corrupted Barack!

Evidently the Democrats would have done the same thing... lol

The two parties are the same.

(watch this: This comment will be downvoted because I suggest that Republicans and Democrats are the same!)

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

Well you did suggest something that is not accurate.

[-] 0 points by betuadollar (-313) 12 years ago

The response by either party would have been exactly the same. Just as it's the exactly the same respecting the profits to Big Oil.

[-] 0 points by HoarFriday (27) 12 years ago

He had to do it, Republicans made him. Many of the posters here have told me this and enough times I'm sure it's true.

[-] -1 points by betuadollar (-313) 12 years ago

Republicans, Democrats - they're both "parties." They rely on campaign contributions and votes.

[-] 1 points by HoarFriday (27) 12 years ago

Votes mean nothing.

[-] 0 points by betuadollar (-313) 12 years ago

haha.. not true on the individual level; the politician needs our vote or he/ she will not be a politician.

[-] 0 points by HoarFriday (27) 12 years ago

So, the other one will and once in, they're bought and paid for by the same money.

Hell, I imagine that even Obama, at one time, had honorable intentions.

[-] 0 points by betuadollar (-313) 12 years ago

Obama wants your vote; he's stumping four and five days a week right now. The machine may not need your vote but the politician, as a leading cog in the wheel, definitely does.

[-] 0 points by HoarFriday (27) 12 years ago

I see no reason why he can't just whip out an executive order to skip over the election and water board anyone who so much as utters a peep about it.

[-] 0 points by betuadollar (-313) 12 years ago

I guess you've never heard of the 2nd Amendment, huh? That IS the reason, the only reason, that does not occur.

[-] 0 points by HoarFriday (27) 12 years ago

You haven't been paying attention here. The Liberal Anarchist want only Obama'a military to have firepower.

[-] -1 points by HoarFriday (27) 12 years ago

Demos buy imports while repubs buy american?

This does not compute and I'm sure there must be some voodoo and shuck&jive taking place. If Democrats do it, (like Obama not buying five Volts in one year or one five years from now) it must be for the betterment and greater good for our nation.

I'm learning, please teach me more.

[-] -1 points by betuadollar (-313) 12 years ago

Not Democrats - liberals - it was the college educated liberal that traditionally purchased imports - volvo, saab, merecedes... volkswagon, toyota and honda.

It doesn't compute because you weren't there to witness the transformation.

[-] -1 points by SmeggitySpooge (78) 12 years ago

I agree, Obama is indeed a GOP as they get when it comes to his friends with money.

I'm sure he touted, supported, pushed and even signed off on it.

[-] 0 points by uncensored (104) 12 years ago

How many of you hypocrites bought a Volt?

[-] 0 points by B76RT (-357) 12 years ago

the chevy volt is garbage. people dont want it. the car buying public took down the volt.

[-] 1 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

Yeah, sure, whatever.

Limbaugh did it singlehandedly. the man is dangerous.

[-] 2 points by Mooks (1985) 12 years ago

Go to Chevy's website and look at pictures of the Volt, including the interior. And then look at the specs. And then ask yourself again if Rush, who is indeed a clown, is really the only thing responsible for the Volt's poor sales. It is a hideous looking car with about as much power as my kid's go-cart.

[+] -4 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

That and it only gets what 35 mpc ( miles per charge ) and is over $30,000.00

Of coarse it's not selling. Its overpriced and under-performing. Not a luxury car and not a significant gas saver. A waste in other words.

A purposely designed failure.

[-] 1 points by Mooks (1985) 12 years ago

Definitely. You can get a comparably equipped Kia for about $14K. That extra $16K you save would make up for the extra gas you would have to buy.

[-] 0 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

Then subsidies are in order.

[-] 1 points by Mooks (1985) 12 years ago

Why? $30K for a shitty car is a waste of money, regardless of who is paying for it. I can't see how this makes any sense.

[-] 0 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

So we can save the environment! The rich trash the environment, so we make them buy cars for the poor. It's a win-win.

[-] 0 points by Mooks (1985) 12 years ago

There are plenty of cars that good great mileage that are light years nicer than the Volt. They Volt is a hideous looking car that costs $30K.

[-] 0 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

What if the rich had to pay $29,990 dollars of the cost and people could get green cars for $10?

[-] 0 points by Mooks (1985) 12 years ago

You can't be for real.

And assuming you are, why do poor people need the Volt? Should only the poor people have to drive crappy cars? That doesn't seem very fair to me.

[-] 0 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

Everyone needs it, because they will fix the environment. So what if they are lame cars, that is the price to pay for fixing the environment. If that is the only sacrifice we make to turn the world into an eco-utopia, I say we come out pretty good.

[-] 1 points by Mooks (1985) 12 years ago

Everyone needs more efficient vehicles. But not the Volt. Driving cars should still be fun, the Volt is like a go-cart.

[-] 0 points by SmeggitySpooge (78) 12 years ago

Each one sold is already subsidized to the tune of $250,000 each.

It's truly a communist party car, albeit a grand failure.

[-] 0 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

Don't believe the lie that the stock price of GM would have to double before the US recouped its investment!

[-] 0 points by SmeggitySpooge (78) 12 years ago

That should happen fast with Chevy volts being 300,000 buck cars selling for a tenth of that price.

I say they advertise like hell and make up for it in volume.

[-] 0 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

I think you and I need to go into business together! We will change the world and then donate all of our profits to helping people.

[-] 0 points by SmeggitySpooge (78) 12 years ago

Absolutely.

I think it's obvious I should be in charge of marketing and advertising even though I have an engineer's degree and can actually replace batteries in a flashlight.

[-] -1 points by B76RT (-357) 12 years ago

you can't keep producing a product that no one wants and stay in business. that product is the chevy volt. limbaugh has nothing to to with the failure that the volt is.

[-] 1 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

I can't believe you have fallen for the Republican "I hope he fails" propaganda. The volt is a perfect fit for some people, and they aren't buying, because they and you have fallen for the lie that the cars are socialistically produced, federally subsidized, and get poor range.

[-] 2 points by richardkentgates (3269) 12 years ago

Actually the demographic chevy has marketed to for the last 40 years is not inline with the Volt as a product. The demographic they have been marketing to is not inclined to believe oil could ever run out or that climate change is real.

[-] 0 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

What kind of car does that demographic drive?

[-] 1 points by FreeDiscussion5 (12) 12 years ago

During the restructuring, Chevy closed our only dealership in town, laying off unionized employees of twenty years and more. I can't get my car serviced anymore. So one must assume, they're in dire straights, right? Well, no... this year they awarded some 600 million in bonuses to their CEOs (wtf?). I'd never buy another Chevy.

[-] 0 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

We really need to finish what we started and have the government buy them completely.

[-] 0 points by betuadollar (-313) 12 years ago

I supported Chevy due to all the publicity surrounding the Volt which unfortunately has priced itself out of the market. Couple this with the restructuring which placed more manufacturing over the border; its decision to close many of our US dealerships, and it's 600 million this year in CEO bonuses, and... sentiment has decidedly changed - fewer will be buying Chevys in the future.

If we look around - Honda, Toyota, Chevy, Ford... even Hyundai and Kia - they are all overpriced. Most today are leasing because they can't afford to buy. Within ten years all of these companies will be displaced by cheaper imports from South Korea and China.

Rush is a double agent whose allegiance is actually sworn to the DNC.

He should actually get an emmy for this powerful performance.

Obama is a faithful follower of Rush and listener of his rants. So is JesusDemocrat.

Rush can also sing like a eunuch.

[-] -1 points by SteveKJR (-497) 12 years ago

That's what they said about Fox News. CNN doesn't report on things like that - all they do is focus on the GOP camaign trying to derail it.

When it comes to the Obimination you hear very little criticism from them and should it happen it is minimal.

Um yeah, the 40 mile range on a charge can't have anything to do with its unpopularity. The Nissan leaf is an all around better car.

And is it a viable solution to a conservation problem?

Rush caused it? Wow,you're really out there aren't you? Did you know they only go 25 to 50 miles on battery power then a gas generator fires up to power the electric motor. Once on gas power it gets approximately 35 mpg. Mileage on some vehicles that are gas only is quite comparable. Then there's that pesky price $39,995. But you get a $7500 tax credit from us the taxpayers, yeah thanks a lot.Of course there's also that little fire problem too. Get a life loser.

[-] 2 points by JuanFenito (847) 12 years ago

Little fire problem? Look, some people will have to die in car accidents in order to save the environment.
