Forum Post: Let's focus on "Citzens United" !!

It’s true that “Citizens United” is a supreme court decision. It’s the law of the land! But so is Roe vs Wade. This does not stop people who oppose Roe from agitating for it’s reversal! They chop away at it at every possible opportunity. They have made it the “litmus test” for who to back politically. They keep it’s provisions in the mind of the public and in the media. Why can’t we do the same with Citizens United? Most people aren’t even aware of how Citizens United stacks the cards in favor of corporations. And , Yes, we should organize a campaign around a constitutional amendment to get rid of it. It couldn’t hurt, even if we don’t have a snowball’s chance in hell at getting it done!! Find out who stands with the United Citizens against Citizens United!

OWS focus? Not likely. It would have detrimental affects on the anarchy that is inherent in this movement.

But I do agree this is the #1 issue!

I agree, but, you have to go back further to when our government recognized fictional entities like corporations, unions, etc. as the the same as persons and therefor entitled to free speech rights. The founding documents of of our country never mention fictional entities in the guarantee of free speech rights. Remember that a fictional entity like a corporation is formed by it's members to limit the liability and accountability of it's members. To give that fictional entity equal rights to those outside that membership without this immunity would obviously create inequality.

It should be very clear that article 5 of the US constitution, which makes the concept of the Declaration of Independence, a procedural event mandates an Article 5 convention.

That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

IF we can create constitutional government, and we haven't had it for 140 years, THEN all these issues will be resolved very well. All we have to do is stand and use our first, and last constitutional right, NOW!
