I wrote this a few days ago, I have been thinking about our problems for more than 15 yrs this is what I have come up with inso far.

The Key Life Functions Proposal – draft 0001, 10/18/2011

The main goal of this proposal is to identify the key issues affecting our planet and societies in regard to the latest information of global social, economic, and environmental problems we are facing today (10-18-2011); and to propose a basic solution to the correction of these problems.  Please note that all ideas and suggestions in this writing are subject to the scientific process; and in no way constitutes anybody else’s opinion other than my own, the writer, who welcomes any and all data that may help correct or further this proposal.  

Key functions I believe there are five key functions, that if corrected would lead to a more stabile position for the planet as a whole.

Definitions 1- Food and Water- Is defined as the Proper and appropriate amount of vitamins, nutrients, minerals, proteins, and clean h2o.

2- Shelter- Is defined as refuge that provides protection and privacy from the exposure from environmental, social and political pressures.

3- Safety- Is defined as protection from all forms of violence; including but not limited to, acts from individuals, affiliated groups, and governments.

4- Medicine- Is defined as any approach that is used for the healing of injuries (physical and mental), relating to human suffering.

5- Education and Communication- Is defined as the direct or indirect means of sharing of information and technologies.

The Problem The real problem is one of imbalance, inequity, misplaced priorities, misperception, and incorrect social, political, and economic incentives and motivations within the structure of the key functions. The byproduct of this problem manifests as starvation, disease, poverty, and death. The problem has been magnified due to one effect of the profit mechanism, an equation that is connected to the law of supply and demand; Scarcity = Profit. This equation states that the value of anything is in direct proportion to the amount there is available. While this equation is valid, the underling problem is one of motivation and incentive. There is no mechanism in place to balance and protect the key functions using this equation. Simply put, the equation uses scarcity as a way to determine value. The key functions cannot be allowed to be scarce, if the long-term goal is survival. The Goldfish Dilemma To provide an example to illustrate the problem, I will provide the following hypothetical scenario: Imagine a goldfish bowl. The bowl is full almost to the top with water and there are rocks and decorations at the bottom. There is a pump and filter to keep the water clean and full of oxygen, and finally there are a couple of goldfish. Using the basic equation that value is determined by scarcity (scarcity=value), lets examine what happens as we adjust the elements in the tank. First off the goldfish stands in our position in this exercise, as being directly affected by the adjustments. Lets us begin with the plastic plants, according to s=v, the less rocks and decorations that are in the bowl the more value they have to the goldfish. Over all, the goldfish does not suffer, or become injured due to this scarcity. However, when this is applied to the water or the pump, some thing very different happens. While it is true that the less water the goldfish has the more value it has, lets not forget that unlike the rocks and decorations, the fish must have clean water and air to breathe in order to survive. So as the water level goes down, the value rises; but the quality of life moves equally in the opposite direction. In conclusion, when dealing with the key functions, escalation of value = decrease of sustainability (survival)

The Solution I propose that there is sufficient empirical data to suggest that the key functions operate best as expressed, abundance = value. Furthermore, I propose that in light of these facts and ideas; that the key functions should be treated from within the profit making equation as invalid expressions, or as null. I also propose that all key functions should be removed outright from the monetary system and placed in trust for the benefit of those who rely on these key functions to survive. It must also be stated that, no person, government, or group should do anything more that what is in the best interests of our species, and our planet as a whole, in regards to access and control of the key functions of Food and Water, Shelter, Safety, Medicine, Education and Communication.
