Forum Post: Jill Stein Arrested For Protesting Keystone Xl

Posted 11 years ago on Oct. 31, 2012, 5:29 p.m. EST by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

In her statement criticizing Obama's and Romney's love of fossil fuels, she states both are campaigning to be "puppet in chief" and was there to "Connect the Dots"

Someone is on the front lines leading for you, America. What more do you need someone to do in order to say "Im rolling in THAT direction?"

Im not even talking about elections as much as I am talking about WHO ARE YOU, and how do YOU want to be remembered?

Rocky Anderson:

“Years ago they hijacked away the presidential debate by the League of Women Voters, and now they have total control over it, just like they have control over the process of getting on state ballots – which is an absolute nightmare,” he said.

Dr. Jill Stein agreed that minor parties spend most of their campaigning time on collecting signatures just to get on the ballot.

“The big parties just get grandfathered in with minimum signature collection – they’re on the ballot,” she said. “But we have to collect hundreds of thousands of signatures around the country in order just to get on the ballot. So our hands are tied really in the 80 per cent of the campaign, and it is only in the last two weeks that we can get the word out.”

As Americans “are being thrown under the bus" a rebellion in the US is in full swing, but no corporate media will report on it, Stein said.

The system is a scam. When enough people finally decide enough is enough, things will change. Its too bad so many are still clinging to a reform-laced pipe dream.

Spoken like the machaevellian zombie RATpublican scamming psyoper that you are.

I actually agree that the system is a scam. With Obama, we'd have to climb a mountain to change things, with Romney we'd be starting at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Good luck with that.

You're an idiot.,.

[-] 2 points by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA 11 years ago

the 2-party debates did not cover house foreclosure or the use of drone warfare

[-] 2 points by Middleaged (5140) 11 years ago

Saw a couple of videos on Ralph Nader, Unreasonable man, and the one 1:15:00 minutes long on 17 Solutions Busboys & Poets... Pretty thorough. I'm sure Jill Stein, Rocky ANderson, Gary Johnson all have the same opinion as you and me on Drones, House Foreclosures, and the rest. How can we be Americans and not prefer the platforms of the Third parties.

[-] 1 points by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA 11 years ago

few believe voting isn't fixed

[-] 1 points by Middleaged (5140) 11 years ago

Yes, I think it would just as easy to fix votes as to commit Fraud in Mortgages, Mortgage Documents, and AAA Rated US Derivatives. There is something inthe Water in the USA. People believe whatever they are told...and don't care to verify anything.

Good Post

[-] 3 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

One candidate is protesting them and going to jail over it, the other two are taking money from em.

Seems like a no brainer to me at this point.

Fuckin-A

[-] 3 points by Nevada1 (5843) 11 years ago

Another good post hchc. Would vote Jill, but not on NV ballot. Will vote another alternative candidate.

[-] 2 points by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA 11 years ago

is there a "write in" option on the Nevada Ballot ?

[-] 1 points by Nevada1 (5843) 11 years ago

Hi Matt,

No, but we can vote 'None Of These Candidates'.

Please see link.

Expanding the conversation on halting keystone:

Push the Global Warming / Climate change dialog/issue.

This is the 1st time that I have heard of this group - but I thought I should perhaps share their e-mail with you all.

http://www.sumofus.org/

Canada, with its massive dirty tar sands deposits, is ground zero in the fight to stop climate change. In fact, NASA’s leading climate scientist has written that if Canada fully taps its tar sands deposits, it will be “game over for the climate” -- that’s why the fight over Transcanada’s proposed Keystone XL pipeline is so critical.

So when our friends fighting the fossil fuel industry north of the border call us and ask for urgent help, we need to be there for them.

Right now Canada’s Conservative government is trying to ram through a treaty that would allow Chinese oil corporations to control the future of the tar sands. FIPA, the Canada-China Foreign Investment Protection Agreement, could give multinational corporations sweeping powers to sue the Canadian government to stop environmental protections on the tar sands, locking in the current Canadian government’s corporate-friendly policies for decades.

The stakes are huge: If FIPA passes -- which could happen as early as this Friday -- then future Canadian governments could be legally compelled to allow tar sands mining. And the consequences for the planet would be catastrophic.

SumOfUs members have already helped raise a huge outcry against FIPA in Canada. One Member of Parliament told our campaigner that the tens of thousands of emails to Parliament, hundreds of letters to the editor, and dozens of major news stories our campaign has generated in the last two weeks has been the most effective pressure campaign he's ever seen.

From south of the border, we can’t write to Canadian Members of Parliament. But if anyone knows what it’s like to have a government in the pocket of big corporations, it’s Americans. We can help with the next critical phase of the campaign, along with our partners at LeadNow.ca -- blanketing the airwaves with emergency radio ads this week in the local districts of key Members of Parliament.

Can you donate $20, the cost of one radio ad spot in a key Canadian politician's hometown, to help stop FIPA and protect the tar sands from greedy multinational corporations?

Thousands of American members of the SumOfUs.org community are already fighting against the Canadian tar sands by challenging the Keystone XL pipeline. I was arrested along with Bill McKibben and more than a thousand others in front of the White House last year to oppose the pipeline. And the SumOfUs.org community raised $50,000 for the legal defense fund of Julia Trigg Crawford, who is trying to stop Transcanada from seizing her family farm in Texas to build the pipeline through it.

Hurricane Sandy has given us another huge wake-up call about the consequences of runaway climate change. And the prognosis for the climate could be bleak if this treaty passes. Chinese multinational fossil fuel corporations will be able to buy up major tracts of the tar sands in Canada, and then be able to legally block any future Canadian governments from cracking down on pollution from the tar sands.

This treaty is could be rammed through as early as this Friday, just two days from now -- unless Canadian activists can effectively pressure enough politicians in Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s own party to make him back down.

Just $20 will buy one 30-second play of an ad on radio in a key district, and every donation means that we can play the ad one more time -- making it more likely to be heard by more people, and amplifying our impact.

Help get our people-powered radio ads on the air tomorrow by pitching in $20, or whatever you can afford.

SumOfUs.org members from around the world, including tens of thousands of Canadians, have already stood up to fight corporate dominance of American politics. They helped take down the Heartland Institute and they helped fund our campaign to push Google to leave the Chamber of Commerce. Now we need to stand together to stop the sale of the Canadian government to Big Oil.

Thanks for all you do,

Taren, Emma, Kaytee, and the rest of us

And what will replace those fuels?

[-] -1 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 11 years ago

was about to post this and as I was typing the title I noticed you had the same one.

Jill Stein actually doing things while bullshitters are all talk.

And some people think I'm crazy for supporting this woman.

[-] 1 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Yup, people putting themselves out there, above the duopoly....and still the freaks cling to the corruption.

[-] 0 points by nomdeguerre (1775) from Brooklyn, NY 11 years ago

Hchc, the machaevellian zombie GOP operative - "You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time" (Abraham Lincoln). We'll see, hc, perhaps you'll be successful this time, perhaps not.

[-] 3 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Spoken like someone too damn scared to get involved for change...thanks for further dragging everything we protest about over the cliff with your Obamney loving zombies...Zombies arent partisan. Zombies follow the crowd. Just like you.

Too bad your ignorance and lack of ambition is going to drag us ALL over the edge with you.

[-] -1 points by nomdeguerre (1775) from Brooklyn, NY 11 years ago

I believe you are an evil fraud.

With Obama (as I've said elsewhere), to restore our democracy, to restore our Constitution, to restore the rule of law we will have to climb a mountain - with Romney, we would have to start at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Take your pick.

You are either stupid or evil, again, take your pick.

[-] 2 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Funny, thats what most of occupy says about you guys....maybe you havent spent that many weeks there...

Maybe you havent spend a single night there?

I bet you are one of those Dem campaigners everyone talked about coopting, arent you?

[-] 0 points by nomdeguerre (1775) from Brooklyn, NY 11 years ago

If martial law were to be imposed, who would you rather have as president? Who would be more likely to impose the Indonesia remedy (mass murder of democratic activists, union leaders, progressives, believers in the law, dissidents etc.), Obama or Romney?

[-] 2 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

"If martial law were to be imposed" do you really fuckin think it matters which one of these spineless losers is in charge? Really?

[-] 0 points by nomdeguerre (1775) from Brooklyn, NY 11 years ago

9/11 would never have happened if Gore had been able to solidify his win. The RATpublicans needed all governmental levers of control to carry out the crime. Romney has surrounded himself with the same Bush neocon team.

Clinton Bombed the, "I'll kidya", camp in Afghanistan

[-] 0 points by nomdeguerre (1775) from Brooklyn, NY 11 years ago

What's your point, little one?

[-] 2 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Gore was part of that team you idiot. You really think GORE had the balls to make a stand?

ARe you fuckin kidding me?

[-] 0 points by nomdeguerre (1775) from Brooklyn, NY 11 years ago

Sorry not to be responding to your emotional provocations, but I don't think you read my comment.

[-] 2 points by hchc (3297) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

You need to be able to make the difference between parties and the establishment.

RATpublicans is like the conservatives that call liberals Libtards, and DemoRATS. Im not grouping you in with that crowd, but people who use those pet names are usually WAY to wrapped into their own party to look deeper than what the party states.

I just tried that candidate picking program that jrhirsch has on his post and my views matched Stein's more than any other candidate. It actually had my man Rocky third, after Gary Johnson. I might have to do some serious rethinking in the next few days after all, eh? Did you try that program yet? I'm curious if you will come up with any surprises as well.

[-] 1 points by TrevorMnemonic (5827) 11 years ago

Yeah it matched me with Jill Stein at 93% somewhere in the 80's with Gary Johnson and Rocky Anderson... only 17% with Obama and 4% with Romney.

[-] 1 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 11 years ago

I went thru it twice, more complete the second time, and it matched me with Jill both times. I may flip-flop after all.

Getting arrested takes practice.

[-] 4 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Not really - these days just rightful protest.

[-] -2 points by stevebol (1269) from Milwaukee, WI 11 years ago

You get better at it the more you get arrested. She's getting good at it.

[-] 4 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

Ah - perhaps not good at it as just more familiar with it - then.

[-] -2 points by stevebol (1269) from Milwaukee, WI 11 years ago

One more time and I say she's a pro.

[-] 3 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

I hope she gives good talks to the court - if they arraign her. Because I can not see anything that is more right to do than to protest the poisoning of people our water our land and our air.

Good Posts

[-] 4 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 11 years ago

There have been some good posts lately - especially in confronting blatant BS. Jill Stein deserves to get some good press.
