Forum Post: It all started with "every kid gets a trophy"

The typical OWS protester seems to believe that "equality of outcome" is the benchmark by which a political system be judged. That mentality probably started when their kiddie soccer team lost every game, finished in last place, and still got a trophy. The United States is the greatest country on Planet Earth because it still offer the best opportunity for ANYONE to succeed. However, "equal opportunity" does not guarantee, or even come close to producing "equal outcome". Especially when it comes to the accumulation of financial wealth.

You are missing the point completely.

and btw, you started this thing over money and income. there's plenty of other ways to measure success

I measure success by penis length. You have failed.

A) You're unlikely to get many reasonable responses stereotyping everyone in this movement as a trustfund baby with entitlement issues. That's no where near true.

B) This movement is about the common discontent of average Americans over corporate influence in government, but it is a leaderless, populist movement so that means everyone gets a voice. I.e. not everyone in the movement agrees on everything. Personally, I'm here put an end to the corporate sponsorship of my representation. Separation of business and state, if you will.

Everyone else? You'd have to ask them.

now that's a good answer. start with real estate. eliminate the tax deduction for mortgage interest, stop govt. incentives to lend to anyone with a pulse, etc. direct and indirect govt. subsidies to the real estate industry were a HUGE part of the bubble

This movement being leaderless and decentralized is at once its greatest weakness and greatest strength. everyone gets a voice... even some rather nutty uncouth individuals.

Personally I agree with you, but my push is on campaign finance reform and possibly term limits. This is something I think that most people can get behind and that most people clearly and easily recognize as an issue. I think that if we can take on one big issue like that and do something meaningful about it, then we can begin to tackle some of the more complex and polarizing issues.

But I'm just one voice. :)

True, "equal opportunity doesn't guarantee equal outcome", and although I'm all in favor of taking down today's ineffective and inefficient Top 10% Management Group of Business & Government, there's only one way to do it – by fighting bankers as bankers ourselves. Consequently, I have posted the Strategic Legal Policies, Organizational Operating Structures, and Tactical Investment Procedures necessary to do this at:
