No matter what anybody says Iran wants a nuclear weapon. Why? Not necessarily to detonate it, but to be taken seriously. The sad history of the world is that the nuclear armed countries always treated the non-nuclear armed countries like crap. Then when they get armed, suddenly they get treated with respect. Did it really hurt the world standing of India or Pakistan to be nuclear armed nations? Lets face it... everybody knows there's only one country to use a nuclear weapon against people, and Iran knows what would happen to them if they did the same.
They want brinkmanship status. The bigger threat is it getting into the hands of Islamic extremists.
Getting into the hands of Islamic extremists or the Iranians having an accidental detonation in their own city. Back in the early days we had a few close calls in America when we almost blew our selves up. In that case they would claim a first strike by us against them.
