Forum Post: If you were to talk to the President or His advisors. What would you say?

Posted 12 years ago on March 15, 2012, 5:09 p.m. EST by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

I sent this to the presidents campaign site:

Do you want to understand the average working class American? Do you want to understand why the average working class American has no faith in the President or in our Government? It is due to the protection of criminals. The failure to protect the average American citizen from an economic meltdown - A national and world wide disaster that was orchestrated on WallStreet and by Fossil Fuel Speculation. If you want to know what the world is thinking and only now begining to talk openly about? Get involved in the discussion. Here is one persons comment on Occupy WallStreet.org this is not an uncommon view/perspective. :

1 points by enough (437) 9 minutes ago

Wall Street is being actively shielded from criminal prosecution by the POTUS and the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury. This is evident for all to see. The results bear that out. Not one Wall Street executive has been indicted. Our financial system watchdogs continue to hand down petty penalties for massive fraud and they do so in the face of growing public outrage. That is how a plutocracy works and, until the bankstas are held to account, there will be no rest. America is not amused. Everybody knows Geithner is in the tank for Wall Street, as have almost all Treasury Secretaries (and Federal Reserve Governors) before him. In effect, Wall Street committed mass financial rape of Main Street Americans. Wall Street behaved and continues to behave like a financial lynch mob with the government at their back. The punks always walk away with impunity from a lynching but the victims are left swinging in the breeze. The scale of their fraud was so big that they became invulnerable. They are too big to jail. If the Justice Department indicts one of them, it has to indict all of them. The numbers are staggering. Further, these particular bandits can hire the best lawyers to defend them, thus outgunning and overwhelming the prosecutors. Hence, the prudent thing for weak and compromised public officials is to just let it go, and that is exactly what this president and this congress have done. Move on. The fact that the perpetrators continue to give tens of millions to the President’s reelection campaign and to the candidates of the opposing political party ensures that pay-to-play rules and justice takes a walk. They don’t care how many people take to the street. Like Boss Tweed famously said, “What are you gonna do about it?” Hopefully, there will be a trickle and then a flood of whistle blowers who are brave enough to expose the white-collar criminals, who inhabit the business offices on Wall Street and other financial districts around the country. ↥like ↧dislike reply permalink

I would say, “Mr. President, you have attempted to govern as a moderate. And it has served you poorly, but the nation worse. Those who hate you, hate you more so, and many who favored you, have lost hope.”

"So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth."

I would say: Mr. President, I have a few things on my mind but before I start criticizing what hasn't been done that I wanted to get done in your first term, let me say that I am not going to embarrass you my publishing this conversation in the New Times, the Washington Post or other public media.

Let me first ask what you really planned to do as you took office before you found out that the country was headed for the financial cliff? Then, how did that change when you found that you couldn't control the Senate due to Democratic turncoats and Harry Reid's failure to change the filibuster rule? And how did it change when the GoP won the House on a platform of jobs and then focused all of their attention on stripping women of their rights?

OK, then was it naivete that caused you to put banksters like Larry Summers, and Gaithner in key financial positions when it was obvious that they wouldn't just save the system but allow and encourage the banks and the whole financial "services" sector to rip the 99% off in every conceivable way, mortgages, credit cards, fraudulent foreclosures etc?

Was It naivete that caused you to support/ignore the second greatest erosion of the rights of citizens, their privacy, illegal search and seizure, right to vote, mismanagement of public corporations, disclosure of political contributions by their investments, etc?

Was It naivete that caused you to support two wars in countries that didn't attack us and were not supported by the electorate?

Was It naivete that caused you to start the heathcare process with a secret deal with big pharma instead of fighting for real top to bottom reform that did not pay off any of the financial special interests in the system?

Was It naivete that caused you to try to negotiate with the GOP, who told you right after the 2010 election that they were going to sink the economy if necessary and use fraud and every other tactic, legal or not, to prevent your reelection?

If you were to win reelection and control of Congress (real this time) what would your program be regarding defense budget cuts and ending US presence in Iraq, Afghanistan, Europe, Japan, Korea, and the rest of the world? The completion of reform of healthcare, Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid? The reform of the electoral and governance of the US?

There are a lot more questions for you before we discuss my position as your most trusted advisor, but why don't we take a short break for a few hoops and reconvene with a beer?

Dear Mr President,

You are the captain of the ship, and some passengers have fallen overboard. Should we toss them enough lifesavers, or would that create too much inflation ?

Please respond soon.

I think President Obama has tried hard to make changes .. true honest ideological changes. But the power of the corporate media was against him all the way .. And if we the people want to make any changes we will be up against the media also.. In a democracy every vote counts , but the power of persuasion strongly has influenced the minds of the people .. Most people believe capitalism is great ! they haven't even considered otherwise. I call this brainwashing .. the american dream and all that .. but the fact is most people in a capitalist society will never reach that dream.. only a very few .. and they are the ones already on top encouraging capitalism .. of course when you're on top it's great ..

But to make change in a democractic society you need to gain control of the media. ..The internet is relatively new on the scene .. but has its outreaching effects. I like the idea of the petition website .. and of course staying vigilant and writing congress letters will be very helpful .. keeping informed of everyones concerns is why they are there. This whole idea of OWS , though quite rudimentary, has helped to enhance public concerns.

If one man in congress wants to make change , he will need the help of "we the people" he can not do it alone.

[+] -13 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Now then there was absolutely nothing wrong with that. Yes His plate is full but that does not mean He would not appreciate hearing honest perspectives like yours just now.

Communications folks works only so good when there is no reply or feed back. Communications works best with a two way flow.

[-] 0 points by FriendlyObserverB (1871) 12 years ago

This is a very difficult question to answer.

What could possibly be said that hasn't already !

Mr Obama, please do something about the wealth inequalities in the world. And please print more money, a lot more . Don't worry about inflation, just create enough jobs for everyone, and sort out the financial system later.. Your priority should be for the welfare of the people .. you swore you would uphold the constitution Mr President. People are out of work and losing their homes Mr President, while your staff is trying to figure out how to "fix the economy. Well don't wait no longer. Print more money and create jobs.. and let your whitehouse staff deal with that mess . At least the people will have a roof over their head , and food on the table ...Print more money .. it's only money .. Mr President .. ;-]

[+] -12 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Are you going to send that? Or did you just feel like yanking my chain. I am as pissed off as anyone but he is the one currently in office "with" war time powers to seize and direct the economy all of Americas resources. Can you imagine a time more ripe for one person to make substantial change? Can you sit back and watch while saying nothing that might "might" make a positive impact?

[-] 1 points by FriendlyObserverB (1871) 12 years ago

I didn't realize the "war time powers" .. Mr Obama has?

No I wasn't planning on sending that.. just a comment for the post.. sincere but hypothetical.. I think he should print money .. inflation is only going to hurt those who have money anyways.. well maybe the poor too , but it would create jobs and that should be priority .. How can he sit back while so many are needing employment and all he has to do is poor a little cash into the system .. what is he worried about ..? inflation ! that doesn't justify not upholding the constitutional protection of the peoples welfare .. where in the constitution does it say , " care for the welfare of the people ..unless it's just to damned expensive.

Mr. President and all members of Government,

Do you want to know why you have the American People in the streets protesting?

It is because you and the rest of the government as well as the Supreme Court the Justice Department, the FBI, the SEC, the CFTC, the Federal police, The Police of Cities States have turned against The People of The United States of America. You have all turned away from your oath of office to serve and protect the Constitution of the United States of America.

The People see that you are directly supporting private interests to the detriment of society.

You have not charged or prosecuted the economic meltdown criminals of WallStreet for their crimes Fraud being right up there in front and waving it's hand for attention.

We the people see this. We also see all of you trying to ignore all of the Occupy movements that are protesting the greed corruption and white collar crime that is running rampant in this country.

The police and other enforcement agencies were set-up for valid reasons with real duties to perform.

They are also institutions power bases. They are just as open to greed and corrupt manipulation as any other institution.

The secret service feels so dedicated to the job right now that they hire hookers while on assignment.

This country is going down the drain and you are all sitting on your hands or are helping it to do so.

If there were a valid third party candidate offered to run for office today.

Guess what? Possible landslide winner?

Read the Constitution read the Declaration of Independence.

You have all forgotten what the job of government stands for.

Do you want to inspire the world?

Do you really want to lead this country and the world into a new age of Health and Prosperity? Do you want your time in office to have meant something truly awe inspiring?

Do you want to make real excellent use of your war time powers? The powers to take and direct all of the resources available to the USA?

Consider this if you want to be truly remarkable:

Big projects - reminiscent of the new deal? Only different as this is a different day and age?

How many construction people are out of work?

How many engineers are out of work?

How many general laborers are out of work?

How many accountants or general managers etc. etc. etc.

Now then - How many fossil fuel powered power plants are being decommissioned due to age and inefficiency?

How many of those power plants are going to be replaced?

How many of those to be replaced could be new tech?

Like Thorium reactors or fuel cell technology.

How much practical-use unusable land is there that could could be used in a manner to power using Wind turbines or solar cells or a combination.

What in this country is truly pathetic weak and out of date?

The power grid.

Think of the jobs that could be created to update the national power grid.

It would take planning akin to the Army core of engineers. But it would be a great place for national investment and American worker living wage employment.

Hah!

Go ahead and shock the world in a good way.

I shared this today:

http://www.barackobama.com/contact-us/

An approach/concept to insure fairness in the workplace and a healthy economy for all.

Minimum wage could work if it were tied to making a living wage. It should be re-approached as a minimum living wage. This would allow for differences in economy and costs through-out the USA.This again would necessitate regulating the basic essentials of life to reflect reality of income - Housing, Rent, Insurance, Food. All luxury items could find their own niche - price themselves into a small or broad market and be taxed appropriately on both sides of the transaction ( sale/purchase ). This would also allow the worker to market their skills out to employment competitors to honor their skills achievements.

This could be promoted by monitoring the business bottom line.

Is the business profitable?

How are profits shared out?

What is the difference in wage from executive to entry level?

What is the amount of business reinvestment?

This is a matter of top to bottom responsibility accountability and fairness.

Business could be taxed on a proactive basis on wage and profit parity. Investors and owners and executive management to be penalized on their income in relation to disparity. Business money/holdings to be penalized on the amount that is parked and not actively working to promote the business after considering a sane allowance for security reserve.

[-] 2 points by FriendlyObserverB (1871) 12 years ago

If you could take an average of all persons living in a certain district, working or not/ young and old.. basically everyon, If you could calculate their overall average earnings, What percentage of the average would a living wage be set at ? Would it be ten percent of the average, 30% , ? An area where a higher earnings exist and thus a higher average .. one would assume cost of living would also be higher.. therefore if we take an average and base the living wage on a percentage of the average, the living wage will adjust according to each district.. Whether it be Los Angeles, or small town somewhere. If the average for losangeles would be $100,000, than at 10% everyperson would receive $10,000. If we set the living wage at 30% than in Los Angeles everyone would receive $30,000.

I developed a formula for this long ago, here's how it works:

You take the average and subtract it from your earnings.

Than you take 10% [or 305 depending] of what you have after the subtraction.

If negative you will recieve that amount, if positive you will pay that amount.

example-

average wage $100,000

your wage $ 40,000

when you subtract the average wage from your wage it is a negative $60,000. there fore you would recieve 10% of sixty thousand.. you would recieve $6,000.

example 2-

If you earn $160,000 and subtract the average $100,000 ..you will have a positive sixty thousand and would pay ten percent , you would pay $,6000.

With this formula , any amount of numbers once the average is calculated , the amount paid out is exactly the amount recieved.

The question now is where do we set the percentage? 10% or 30% ??

..and this sums up a formula for calculating a living wage. It would be applied to everyone in the neighborhood working or not.

I had tried to develop a formula with incentive to earn more. And with this formula , the more you work the more you earn , and no one gets left behind .. there is a bottom for everyone . And it isn't zero. It would be ten percent , or whatever the percentage is set at . and as they work it is added to their earnings .

Currently the welfare system is a disincentive for recipients to look for work on account after a few number of hours they lose their welfare, dollar for dollar as earned. With the living wage formula that doesn't happen .. they increase their total as they earn more.

Again, it's one of those simple looking solutions .. but with a complicated understanding. The formula would ensure no one gets left behind.

[+] -9 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

I like the concept. Wage disparity could also be used to pay the missing income to the disadvantaged by the obscenely advantaged. Parity supported by the whole economy.

[-] 1 points by FriendlyObserverB (1871) 12 years ago

Exactly. It seems the idea of a living wage has been focused on a single unit as a business and its employees, but this formula works on the whole economy .. man woman and child..

edit: no one gets left behind.

[+] -9 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 12 years ago

Oooo ouch ...what a concept to quote.

But it would make a real good redeemer of the slogan/concept.

Flood Congress with Support for Climate Action

Dear Dan,

Global warming emissions present a danger to public health—from worsening ozone pollution to hotter, longer heat waves and other types of extreme weather. For instance, heavy rain and floods are likely to get worse in a warming world, leaving us more and more vulnerable to health risks such as drowning and exposure to contaminated water.

Floods are one of deadliest and most expensive natural disasters in the United States. The average annual U.S. flood losses in the past 10 years were more than $10.2 billion. More than half of all waterborne disease outbreaks in the United States occur in the aftermath of heavy rain, and floodwaters may contain more than 100 types of disease causing bacteria, viruses, and parasites.

In order to protect our health from these effects of climate change, we must reduce global warming emissions now.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is on the verge of releasing draft standards that will limit global warming emissions from power plants under the Clean Air Act. Unfortunately, dirty energy companies and their allies in Congress are trying to block the EPA from moving forward with these historic standards.

Tell your members of Congress to protect our health from the effects of climate change and oppose any legislation that would block or delay the EPA's ability to reduce global warming emissions under the Clean Air Act.

Take Action Today!

Sincerely, Chrissy Elles Chrissy Elles Outreach Associate UCS Climate & Energy Program

This what I sent. What will you?:

Floods are one of most deadly and expensive natural disasters in the United States. The average annual U.S. flood losses in the past 10 years were more than $10.2 billion. More than half of all waterborne disease outbreaks in the United States occur in the aftermath of heavy rain, and floodwaters may contain more than 100 types of disease causing bacteria, viruses, and parasites.

In a warming world, extreme weather events like heavy rain and floods will likely get worse, leaving us more and more vulnerable to health risks like drowning and contaminated water. In order to protect our health and environment from the impacts of climate change, we must reduce global warming emissions now.

Break free of fossil fuel dependence NOW! We have useable technology right now. Combine the Hopewell project: http://www.hopewellproject.org/

WITH:

I'll give ya a bump and raise you an E CAT and an LFTR.

Sorry, I have miss quoted this as LFNR. the T stands for thorium. It's a "clean fission" option.

http://www.wired.com/magazine/2009/12/ff_new_nukes/all/1 - This was in reference to clean fusion generators. Thanks again shooz.

That's as close to a full circle support system for driving energy independence as I have ever seen.

What I confided to the president - 4/24/2012

The president and all of the current members of government should watch two documentaries.

1) Inside Job

2) The Frontline documentary which aired 4/24/2012 on PBS which will replay on the 25th on PBS the 2nd half of the documentary to air next week I believe on 5/01/2012 also on PBS.

Why you might ask?

Because apparently the president and all of government are not aware that the people know a lot more about the economic meltdown than you give them credit for.

Also we are not happy with your denial. The entire government that is.

Mr. President and the rest of the current sitting government. Please take a moment and consider this perspective for a moment. I know it may be galling - but it is a true offering of true perspective. This is what a lot of the public feels.

WallStreet - Addicts at work getting their fix-on. Truly. It is a disease and government removed their care giver and nurse - They repealed/removed Glass-Stegal. Then the door was fully open to their drug access and they went at it hammer and tongs. Only when WallStreet overdosed it put the whole world into a coma. JOY. Now because the problem is so huge they want to deny it - just like any addict. This has prompted major fear and a news blackout to try to give them time to stuff it under the rug. Sorry there is not a big enough rug. Nope the cat is out of the bag and running for it's life. The public has seen the distress and is starting ( finally ) to take a close look at what is going on. As the shock wears off the public is now beginning to speak-out. As the public speaks out and gets no response the public begins to look for ways to make sure that they are being heard. This is where we are today an awakening public looking for answers and action. It would be best if the government got to work and set the justice department after the economic criminals. The sooner the better for all concerned.

This is what I said. Can you do better? Then do it. http://www.barackobama.com/contact-us/

↥like ↧dislike reply edit delete permalink

Man what a torrent of negativity you just faced down DKA. Bravo! There are a lot of people who are against everything and not in favor of anything. You just faced down the whole crew singlehandedly. That would be enough to tire anyone out. You deserve a beer.

Hey GK. That stuff? That was old, a couple weeks now. But thanks for the much appreciated congratulation. It was fun for the most part.

This is my new challenge to supporters to meet or join and of coarse for trolls to rant about:

By the way, to all those who think change isn't possible through "sad-ass internet activism." Change.org just forced Apple to reform it's factories in China, a great accomplishment, and a testimony to what "mamby pamby, internet activism" can accomplish. I find it amazing that some of the very people who used the internet so effectively early in this movement, now portray it as an ineffective medium of change. What the heck is that all about? It's one method that has proven effective. I really, really don't get this!

Disbelief in the power of direct communication?

I do not know either.

But it is a fact that these on-line communications are making a real difference.

Maybe it is just the odd feeling of talking to the government.
