Forum Post: If You Got Your Wish

I must say this. If by some way, a freak fantasy came true. If somehow, ALL WEALTH in America was taken away from everyone, lumped together, and then every single individual was given the same amount. We could basically call it a "start over". All the "Occupiers" would have their utopia, their "fair" world. Everyone has the same amount of money down to the penny. Heck we could make it even more "fair". Those who are "poor" now would get more than those who are "rich" now. Here is what would happen..... It wouldn't be long before those who are extremely wealthy now, would rise to the top again, and those who are "oppressed" and poor now would soon be poor, and whining about "the unfair system" again. I guarantee it.

No "superiority" I assure you that. There are many, Many, MANY people far more successful than myself. Much of that is because of life choices and not having the capabilities of others too. I just don't ENVY those that do have more. I like my life very much and if I didn't I would do what I had to do to change it. People having billions of dollars have no negative impact on me. I would like to think they are happy also. After all, that is what the "goal of life" is, to live and die happily?

I can not tell if you are seeking understanding, or seeking to be understood.

If you are seeking the later, I will give it my best shot. Based on your assumptions, I cannot blame you for feeling distressed and confused about OWS in general. It does not make sense and it will continue to not make sense. This would be a painful state for any sane person. It is even more painful if you are the type of person who looks at a problem through a rigidly defined set of beliefs and convictions.

If it is understanding you seek, this may help..

Critical thinking is the process of thinking that questions assumptions. A novel idea. If I am having trouble finding a solution or understanding a problem, it may be because I have made false assumptions within my understanding of the problem. Once I have identified my assumptions, I can re-define my problem many different ways and see things from many different perspectives, which can help foster understanding.

Boy are you "deep" in your own mind. What critical thinking does it take? I can handle "the system" and am sure that with it I can live a happy, comfortable life. It isn't deep philosophy. We live in a country in which ANYONE can better themselves and I love that ability.

Oh, ok. It did not seem like you were happy and comfortable at all. You sounded confused, distressed and somewhat angry. It seemed like you were having a hard time understanding other people. Just trying to help..

Where do you get your superiority complex? It is quite unbecoming.

I don't think that would be a utopia at all, and I doubt that everyone in Occupy would agree with that definition. Honestly, a working- and middle-class society based on properly regulated capitalism with a few outliers at the top and almost none at the bottom would be the closest thing I can imagine to an actual achievable dream.

If I got my wish, all Libertarians everywhere would be rendered permanently mute.

WHY?? Does it make you feel uncomfortable to hear people who disagree with you or are happy with their lives by their own making? I just don't understand WHY you hate hearing THAT? What is wrong with people being self sufficient, comfortable with their own morals, values, actions, and feelings and not being worried about others and what they do or have?

Sounds great. But the consequences of libertarianism is money controlling everything, and the poor being left to starve to death. It is a system based, not on freedom, but on private property, and it is too stupid to understand its own false conflation of the two.

Yep.

OWS is not about individual wealth and never was. Part of the whole point of occupation is because it is symbolic of taking back the commons and an increase in the social wage, not redistribution individual wealth.

That is not my wish. It is your fear. Big difference. Stop projecting, deal with the fact that everyone has differing opinions, and get over it already. Gawd.

There are more than a few people here who don't understand what you're saying, believing that you actually advocate this 'start over.' A 'start over' by the way would imply that the original start resembled your scenario. It never has, ever, in all of history. There have always been rich and poor and there will always be. But for the sake of argument, I agree. It would immediately revert back to it's natural state, the wealthy and the rest.

Would you please send me a copy of the guarantee?

I want to read the fine print.

Your continued misunderstanding of the movement is astounding.

Most of us just want WallStreet and other corporatists to quit picking our pockets every chance they get.

We want them, the hell out of our government.

I don't like fascism.

The only likely outcome of your proposed scenario would be inflation.

Which is where the economy is heading anyways, so I guess it would only be moving things along towards the inevitable outcome.
