Forum Post: If I were an elected representative...

All,

I've been so moved by the discourse here that I have started toying with the idea of entering politics at the State or Federal Representative level.

I was thinking that if I were elected, I would advocate secure electronic voting of Representatives and Senators in Congress so that I could spend MOST of my time in my own district talking to the people I represent rather than in Washington talking to politicians. I think this would keep our representatives closer to their home culture rather than that of Washington, and it seems it would be relatively easy to establish secure communications between the comparatively few elected officials of Congress (it's not as challenging as secure nationwide electronic voting, for example).

I'm also thinking I would maintain a forum much like this one to allow near continuous dialog with the people I represent. This would serve not only to educate ME, but also to educate my constituents regarding matters they may not fully understand. In fact, I think I would try to make my office a portal into the government serving the people I represent. I would have staffers working full time as needed to answer questions and run things to ground for the people I represent.

Just some thoughts. I retire soon, and am still thinking how I might contribute once money is no longer a concern. Thoughts and comments are welcome !

'Rico
