I feel that the stinkle does not represent OWS well nor does it endorse the concepts of OWS. If you like something give it a twinkle if you don’t move along, there’s plenty to read.
Anyway that’s what I think what do you people think?

I noticed there had been some talk, thought I would chime in.
To tie the concept to OWS, I feel that OWS in some ways stands for the concept that small things can make large change, I know that dumping on ideals is a time honored tradition, esp. here on the web, but why not try something different? we might get different results.

no doubt ego is the enemy, I have seen sites where comment count is unaffected by voting, I think that is good, it's the down vote I think causes the problem, I think letting people say "good job" with a twinkle is fine and would retain the "game theory" hook but removal of the stinkle would remove the ability for posters to "censor" others with their votes anyway I see a path where it would work. I often see things others don't it happen a lot at the nuclear plant where I once worked, but they kept most of that money.
As a side note if one can accept that is game theory at work one can separate the ego and still have fun.
A lot more people like to complain, rather than seek solution it could be reflective of OWS larger problems.

I accept your position it has merit, however I tend to avoid judging tactics so broadly, I have had long discussion with people only to find that they were being disingenuous throughout the chat, this will lead me believe they have a hidden agenda, as opposed to an open agenda like my own which is to destroy the GOP and by doing that completely change our current system. In such cases a general dislike can develop. I don’t know if the “thumbs up” with no “thumbs down” ability has ever been tried, but as I think about it I think the idea has merit.

The points system is a built in tool for the cognitive infiltration. When a group of infiltrators uses it the effect is confounding on the unsuspecting viewer.
I don't think it's nearly that complicated, it's pretty simple game theory, this post was put up in response to a few other that were complaining about their "scores" sort of a put up or shut up thing, haven't seen those posts in a while....

Good idea. Let's remove the twinkle too. It will help remove the incentive to post the thousands of irrelevant discussions that are done to drive up one's point score.
I think the twinkle actually encourages more thoughtful comments, there is a lot of fun in tearing down for some people, take that fun away and they will go away.

However I dio disagree i think there is a mentality involved in tearing down, I think there are posters on the site that work as "censors" downvoting comments they fear, facebook has many differences form the OWS site (I don't fear being absorbed by either the Democratic Party or Facebook), the active comment/reasponse being one.

I think you are talking about something completely different when comparing what I am suggesting to FB.
It should be all about the topic and not the individual. If there is to be a score, then post just a total, same as done for number of comments. There is no need for individual scores. Inflated positive or negative scores are not necessarily indicative of the person, but usually only the childish actions of the few. And the numbers distort or create false assumptions about a person when it should be about the topic, comment or response.
I agree, No more stinkles. I have lost thousands of points in the matter of days. Been harassed by a small group of anti OWS fanatics for a year. and had innocuous comments downvoted for no good reason.
I've never complained because I KNOW the points DO NOT matter!

I think if people were required to "attack" with their words instead of the easy vote it would bring more honesty to the site. I am not attacking anyone who operates within the system that exists that would be like attacking a politician for taking money, but rather a change in the system like public funding would be a change, some who work within the money taking system still support public funding.

This is I believe an important function of this forum. Some do not like my efforts/opinions & I am constantly under attack. I never complain and continue my efforts (that is what bothers them most)
So the stinkle crew is working you hard I see, anyway the site can do those things, it would be possible to do more if the mods and people in NYC were more involved with the site. It would be possible to build a "people's think tank" that would crush the right wing noise machine. Here the work of debate and talking points can be done, but OWS is far behind on having that sort of impact. It would have to realize who the enemy is for one and get in the game, something it has been reluctant to do for fear of losing support of some. Anyway i could go on, I see great possibilities in the site, but I an not hopeful at this point.

I was referring to total comments by users some do that, reflects activity which is useful data. The count at the top is comments on the post.
