Forum Post: I guess I am in the 1%

I have had a couple bad years with low income do to my profession dying. I am married with 3 kids. In 2006 I made 31,000 dollars and paid in 210 dollars to federal taxes and 70 dollars to my state the whole year!. At tax time I received 9800.00 Dollars federal and 450 dollars from state. I was shocked. Well same thing happened in 2010 where I made 28,000 and received well over 10,000 dollars back at the end of the year. Excluding those years from what I just talked about from 2000 - 2011 I have averaged 45,000 to 65,000, roughly and payed in 4000 to 8000 in federal taxes and have always got back more than I paid in. I have actually never payed any extra to the federal government since 1998. I am in the 1% and am not even rich.
Are you saying that if you paid $4,000 in taxes you received back the $4,000 plus additional money you didn't pay in taxes?
If you can screw the IRS by doing what you are doing, keep doing it.
