Forum Post: I am the one percent

Posted 13 years ago on Oct. 16, 2011, 6:29 p.m. EST by Youareallretards (5)
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

I am the 1%.

I am the 1% that has my shit together. I am the 1% that doesn't expect the government to take care of me. I am the 1% that believes in personal responsibility. I am the 1% that got a degree in a profession the market wants, instead of a degree in something useless that I enjoy. I am the 1% that worked my ass off to get good at that profession, allowing me to demand a high pay for my high skill level. I am the 1% that spent my whole life working while the other 99% fucked around or followed their dreams or indulged themselves at useless protests. I am the 1% that won at life. And in America, anyone can do the same just by working hard.

And I don't owe any of you fucking failures anything.

LOL right, 99% of people "fucked around". The reality is this 1% didn't have the balls to choose to follow their bliss, and so want to keep creating a world where everyone must be as miserable as him, if they wish to survive..... that is one scary demented narcissistic dysfunctional way to view and create the world you live in.

[-] 2 points by tritone (36) 13 years ago

This is a recurring theme in the conservative detractors of OWS, from the rank and file all the way up to the current crop of presidential candidates. "You didn't work as hard as me." "You pursued ridiculous professions." "You followed your dreams." Makes me think that Steve Jobs really blew it. College drop-out. Went to an ashram in India. Buddhist. Hippie. Most influential college course was "calligraphy". What a total self-indulgent waste of time THAT was. Yet Apple Inc. now stands as the largest market cap company in the world, more than 10 billion above Exxon Mobil. And I'm not saying Jobs was a saint. Clearly he wasn't. Nobody is. He could be just as cold as your comments. Except, unlike you, he fully appreciated other areas of study as equally, if not more important, than the narrow range which you imply. He characterized Apple this way: "We're not just a tech company, even though we invent some of the highest technology products in the world," he said. "It's the marriage of that plus the humanities and the liberal arts that distinguishes Apple." http://www.thedailyriff.com/articles/steve-says-technology-liberal-arts-innovation-648.php Read the article. Apple is just an example of the benefits of a more liberal curriculum. Maybe you should consider expanding your current skills with a broader viewpoint. How about taking up some Peruvian basket weaving? Or study Amazonian insects? ..... calligraphy?

Let me give you an example. I have a temporary worker that was getting x amount of dollars an hour. She does a good job, but she is a temp. She is a full time temp. I asked the CFO if I could give her a raise as part of her review. Every year all the employees get a review and have the opportunity to get a merit increase. It was her 3rd year as a full time temp (no vacation, no benefits, etc) and I wanted to give her an increase. The CFO said no. I was dumbfounded, we all got raises and she couldn't. I asked I just wanted to give something, like 25 cents or 50 cents anything. He said no.

As a 1% there is a responsibility to your workers.

I am far from a failure and the fact that your username is completely offensive means you obviously absolutely are part of the 1% that are completely rude, completely non-compassionate. It is your right to get to the top of the ladder, but you probably threw people off the ladder in the process.

Look to your 1% groupers like Warren Buffet, he shares non of how you feel.

Take the example, you have every right and you're ignorant to think that people that support this cause didn't do everything that you do, get educated, get high pay, followed their dreams. It's when that 1% abuses their power and doesn't take care of the workers (and takes golden parachutes and bonuses while they borrow money from the government while the company is making no money and jobs are being cut).

Perhaps you need to STUDY harder to understand what kind of 1% the people are talking about, the people that aren't doing what is right so that they can get theirs and not care about anyone on the bottom and now blaming them for saying anything.

Obviously, we're not going to convince you of anything. But I'm going to continue to work on mine. I hired 2 people this year, both of them make $2 + x per hour what the temp made who I couldn't get her a raise for (she has since gotten hired). But I continue to push for my workers to get paid properly. Did the 1% in my company do that? Nope the hard working middle management (me) did that. Get a clue.

[-] 2 points by Zeitgeister (29) 13 years ago

You have no idea. The world is waking up and realizing what is happening. Protest in over 30 countries and growing.

[-] 2 points by ccillinois2000 (20) 13 years ago

I do realize that there are protests in going on all over the world. I was responding to the person who posted that he/she was in the 1% and did not understand why we are protesting.

[-] 0 points by WanderingJewess (6) 12 years ago

Is that a violent threat? What exactly are you proposing to do with this 1% of pure evil? I hear that bullets can get expensive and gas chambers are much more efficient.

One of the nicest things about being big is the luxury of thinking little. Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt.

What I hear is that you gave up your dream or passion to conform to the world as you understand it. What WE are fighting for is a world that is encouraging and sees value in More than the almighty dollar. Other things matter, things that you may not understand or like matter and above all RESPECT and HUMILITY matter, as opposed to GREED. I bet your not the 1%, but you are so skewed to think that money is all that really matters, you traded in your HEART and SOUL to get it.

To viewers: Please don't mistake messages like the one above, especially on this forum, for the movement's views. Messages like this one do not represent the movement's principles in the slightest, whether they appear here or elsewhere, and are merely an attempt by its opposers to derail it.

This forum is largely unmoderated due to the organizers' responsibilities elsewhere, so even people who blatantly seek to disrupt and misrepresent the movement have a podium here.

Great work! I applaud you for making your own luck, for setting goals and holding no one but yourself accountable for your own success or failure. You should know that you are not alone. The bottom 1% claims to speak for the middle 98%. If I run into you on the street someday, I hope we can do business together and improve the world.

[-] 1 points by freewriterguy (882) 12 years ago

traditionally and for thousands of years, the 1% eventually gets overrun by the 99% its inevitable, and we wont feel sorry for your hardship then either, just as you dont feel for ours.

[-] 1 points by Standupandshout3 (9) 12 years ago

You are actually not the one percent, because somebody that successful would actually be mature enough to write a message without repeatedly using "shit" and "fuck." Somebody in the one percent would write a message that actually makes a point. Did you ever think about the fact that if everyone got a degree in something the "market wants," the market wouldn't want it anymore?

[-] 1 points by WanderingJewess (6) 12 years ago

I am the 0.2% - please don't eat me.

[-] 1 points by pk7 (64) 13 years ago

I just don't get this. Why should someone who works their ass off to make 700K per year or someone who is in the top 1% need to pay a much higher tax rate than they currently do now? If someone chooses to work their ass off in college to earn a difficult degree like being a surgeon or an engineer, etc, why should they be forced to give large handouts to people who decide to be lazy and just work a minimum wage job? Just like the guy who made 700K, my husband worked his ass off - 18-20 hour days for years, gave up socializing and screwing around, risked our money and borrowed money, and obtained numerous physical injuries like nerve damage to the arms and elbows, carpal tunnel, back problems, etc, because he worked relentlessly to build a business that cleared 350 or 400K. Why should he hand over more than the 250K he already paid in taxes for people who just don't want to strive as hard or who choose to have children they can't support? And his business does create jobs, despite the fact that he once enjoyed a pretty nice net salary. But doesn't he deserve to keep that, after everything HE has done to build this business?

[-] 1 points by calientefig (1) from Kearny, NJ 13 years ago

I am the 1%.

Me, too. Nice to meet you. For full disclosure, I made $700,000 last year and have a net worth of approximately $7 million.

I am the 1% that has my shit together.

Come now, organized fecal matter is not a trait solely bestowed upon us rich folks. I know quite a few 99%ers who have their shit together more than me. I just make more money. But hat doesn’t make me better at coordinating my crap.

I am the 1% that doesn't expect the government to take care of me.

Come on. Both you and I know that although we rich guys may not directly call our representatives and ask for favors, we benefit from the aggressive efforts of some our cohorts.

I am the 1% that believes in personal responsibility.

You’re right: some Americans could really use an app to help them in this arena, but the majority of folks would say they possess this quality as well. We richies don’t have a corner on the market as we’d like to believe.

I am the 1% that got a degree in a profession the market wants, instead of a degree in something useless that I enjoy.

Wow, you got a degree. I started publishing with no training or prior experience. Just learned along the way. Been successful for twenty-three years and I enjoy it.

I am the 1% that worked my ass off to get good at that profession, allowing me to demand a high pay for my high skill level.

Well, I don’t know anyone who doesn’t work their ass off, is good at their job and demands everything they can get. So you’re not special, but you are lucky. The “high pay” of some jobs won’t ever bring someone up to our level, even if that person has a “high skill level.” More on this in a moment.

I am the 1% that spent my whole life working while the other 99% fucked around or followed their dreams or indulged themselves at useless protests.

1 – hold on. Some folks made different decisions than you and I, but I doubt that they spent a lot of time fucking around while making those decisions. 2 – let’s not diss “following one’s dreams” from the wealthy pulpit. Did you not follow your dreams? I’m not being sarcastic, but that’s kind of sad. 3 – out of curiosity, what in your view would be a useful protest?

I am the 1% that won at life.

You know, I used to think this way, too. I made a bunch of money, so I must be better than everyone else. But that’s just bullshit. From one rich guy to another: instead of feeling like a winner, try feeling happy and compassionate. Guys like us don’t have much reason for sounding threatened, angry and insecure. You’ve got money, but seem to be lacking in some critical areas.

And in America, anyone can do the same just by working hard.

I used to believe this mantra, too. Hard work is the magic bullet. But it’s not. The old guy who cleans our office building is a former Vietnamese refuge. He became a citizen, busted his ass for 30 years and got his two kids through college and beyond. This guy makes me look like a sloth. He’s 60 years old, hunched over and – even though his teeth are from the middle ages – when he smiles the whole room lights up. He’s proud, happy and he’s in the 99%. And he’s a shining example of what America is all about. If hard work equals wealth, this guy would be Bill Gates.

And I don't owe any of you fucking failures anything.

No, but you do owe your country. Let’s face it, you and I wouldn’t be where we are today if we didn’t live in a nation that offered such incredible opportunities. We made good choices, worked hard and were grandly rewarded. But so what? Everyone else is doing the same thing but with different results. That doesn’t make us right and them wrong. Our wealth does not make us exempt from participating in America’s long-understood, but unspoken contract to help others in our community and nation. Metaphorically, we reached the mountaintop. But now our journey continues beyond that point to mentor and guide on their treks. As rich guys, this should be our mission.

Ok, so I'm back from a 6 month vacation on the moon - I make that much $ I can afford it - and I come home to this mess. 1%, I’m part of the 0.01%. What the fack is the big to do. Enlighten me what the hell is wrong with Wall St? Why Wall St? Why not plastic surgeons making $1m? Why not those abusing social programs? Why not the levered retards who took 110% LTV mortgages on 3 houses after watching their moronic neighbour get lucky? What the hell are we protesting here? Someone, in a few bullet points give it to me straight, what's wrong and how do we fix it?

In the meantime I'm starting a protest too. Down with Main St. Down with Main St. Screw the 99%, they have too much power. My opening demand is simple: only those with a real education, qualified aptitude or IQ test should be allowed to vote....down with the 99%, down with the 99%.

Get a job. Get a job. If you can’t find you here, leave, you’re costing us too much $ anyway. I hear Brazil is hiring. Don’t speak Portuguese, learn. Down with Main St. Down with Main St.

[-] 1 points by mariodk (14) 13 years ago

Then pay up the fair amount of taxes that you need to pay! just because you are a 'self-made 1%', it is not fair that you pay a lesser tax rate than the rest of the americans who also work hard to earn their living.

[-] 1 points by yubutthurt (1) 13 years ago

Hey Shithead, I worked to get one of the best computer science degrees in the world, was in the top 2% in income for 10+ years, payed 50%+ in income taxes, and still put away my first mil before age 40.

Then Congress took a few payoffs, started the H1-B visa program to flood the market with cheap foreign labor. Even "my" representative, Dianne Feinstein, supported putting Californians out of work, in spite of compelling testimony to Congress that there was no shortage of tech workers). Now after 2 million foreign workes came in under H1-B visas over the past 10 years alone, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports 23% unemployment in California.

Guess what? H1-Bs don't know they can stay, so they CAN'T put 100% of their pay right back into the U.S. the way citizens do. So the economy tanks.

I'm unemployed because we're ruled by crooks, and we're no choice; politicians from both parties are deeply corrupt, beholden to the same special interests. You just happen to be serving the crooks.
Pat yourself on the back if you want. You weren't intelligent enough or willing to work hard enough to get an engineering degree, but you're living proof that even self-important sociopaths get lucky sometimes. Your time is ending.

Get a clue; we're not asking you for anything. We're simply asking for an end to the corruption which severely tilts the playing field against Americans being able to succeed by working hard. If you can't muster up an ounce of sympathy for that, you don't deserve shit. We don't owe you a continuation of your accidental success.

While I admire your personal accomplishments, many more people will come to your side when you are proactive (for “new” Business & Government solutions), instead of reactive (against “old” Business & Government solutions), which is why what we most immediately need is a comprehensive “new” strategy that implements all our various socioeconomic demands at the same time, regardless of party, and although I'm all in favor of taking down today's ineffective and inefficient Top 10% Management System of Business & Government, there's only one way to do it – by fighting bankers as bankers ourselves; that is, using a Focused Direct Democracy organized according to our current Occupations & Generations. Consequently, I have posted a 1-page Summary of the Strategically Weighted Policies, Organizational Operating Structures, and Tactical Investment Procedures necessary to do this at:

http://getsatisfaction.com/americanselect/topics/on_strategic_legal_policy_organizational_operational_structures_tactical_investment_procedures

Join

http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/StrategicInternationalSystems/

because we need 100,000 “support clicks” at AmericansElect.org to support a Presidential Candidate -- such as any given political opportunist you'd like to draft -- in support of the above bank-focused platform.

Most importantly, remember, as cited in the first link, that as Bank Owner-Voters in your 1 of 48 "new" Business Investment Groups (or "new" Congressional Committees) you become the "new" Congress replacing the "old" Congress according to your current Occupation & Generation, called a Focused Direct Democracy.

Therefore, any Candidate (or Leader) therein, regardless of party, is a straw man, a puppet; it's the STRATEGY – the sequence of steps – that the people organize themselves under, in Military Internet Formation of their Individual Purchasing & Group Investment Power, that's important. In this, sequence is key.

Why? Because there are Natural Social Laws – in mathematical sequence – that are just like Natural Physical Laws, such as the Law of Gravity. You must follow those Natural Social Laws or the result will be Injustice, War, etc.

The FIRST step in Natural Social Law is to CONTROL the Banks as Bank Owner-Voters. If you do not, you will inevitably be UNJUSTLY EXPLOITED by the Top 10% Management Group of Business & Government who have a Legitimate Profit Motive, just like you, to do so.

Consequently, you have no choice but to become Candidates (or Leaders) yourselves as Bank Owner-Voters according to your current Occupation & Generation.

So please JOIN the 2nd link so we can make our support clicks at AmericansElect.org when called for, at exactly the right time, by an e-mail from that group, in support of the above the bank-focused platform. If so, then you will see and feel how your goals can be accomplished within the above strategy as a “new” Candidate (or Leader) of your current Occupation & Generation.

GypsyKing does not live in America... apparently scared out of the country by 1%ers like you. But unlike GypsyKing, I'm an American Biker. I know who the real 1%ers are. I don't fear them, and I don't fear YOU. But I respect them, and I don't respect YOU. And before it's over, I bet they help us take YOU...
