I think it makes sense to express our rage via hunger strike. Who is with me? I think it is best to start the hunger strike today! That way in a week when the protest begins we will look gaunt. It is best if those who join me are already thin to magnify the effect. Thoughts?

I'll join you! I'm 400+ pounds so I could use to lose a little weight anyway lol. How many bags of cheese doodles can I eat a day and still be considered on a hunger strike? I'm currently a 12 bagger but I think I could cut back to just 3 if that's ok. What are your thoughts on ring dings? Are they ok or do I need to cut back on those as well. I just may have trouble switching to diet mountain dew, but for a cause like this, it's worth it.

In india this is done because gandhi established the precedent and people unjderstand the logic behind it. If you don't have this base of solidarity and support, it will unfortunately get ignored. I think its efficacy hinges on a cultural framework that is in place in Indian society. For example, there is an appreciation for it in every day life - it is not uncommon for people to not eat one day out of the week in order to honor the god that corresponds to the day of the week on which they make a habit of fasting. It's also recognized as a healthy thing to do every once in a while, as well as a way to let your body heal itself when it is sick. The point is that that framework is nonexistent here in America and so I don't think it will be received with much sympathy.

Take it easy, I am not mocking you. I am glad you can do that. I just can't stay on a diet very long. Run, now I can do that. Give me a 5k any day. But all the running we have done and still we have breast cancer....and millions are dying from starvation. Will anyone pay attention? We just have to keep looking for the answer.

We are u mocking me? I think not eating is an effective way to bring about nonviolent change.

For losing weight, sure. For effecting change, not so much.

Are the people you're trying to get the attention of really going to care if we don't eat for a couple of days?
