Yeah, the movie/books are stylized, but still very real.
Are they still cutting food stamps? Yes.
Are they still stymieing unions? yes.
Is wealth inequality still increasing? yes
Add more if you like, these are not the only ways that make it real.
I viewed on cspan a doctor/lawyer who details how the public is being driven to diabetics by the corporate food industry. Really fascinating, well documented.
Basically, sugar is really bad, and the food corporations and politicians won't do jack, so we need to get informed, and protect ourselves and kids from deadly sugar.....

Holy freaking smokes! Really???? Oh, I see: it makes total sense as the Right to Life people are behind it. Wow, what a tricky ploy to get people to side with their ideology: hit women in their pocketbook.
These kinds of shenanigans are exactly why capitalism - and frankly democracy - doesn't work for most people, but especially minorities. By minorities, I men women, transgender people and others who are marginalized by majority consensus.
I actually have been paying attention to this one. It's the most idiotic crap that I have seen in awhile.
