The NY Times just yesterday published an article about his very issue. ONly 7% of those people who lost their jobs at the start of the recession are earning what they did beforehand. I myself am staring a job today after a year of searching that will pay me a little more than half of what I earned in my last job, and offer a health care plan that will ensure my bankruptcy if I become ill.

And I'm grateful for it!

Here is the link to that article :

I'm making about three times as much now as two years ago. I just got a new job yesterday with the biggest salary I ever had, and my stokes are doing good.

Happy for you. I hope it lasts and it's in a growing industry, and it's not a service related job that depends on consumer spending. Not much left of that around.

I work as a computer programmer. Just answering the OP'a question. I'm not sure if it will last. We'll see. I did refuse two other offers before accepting this one, so there are some jobs left for senior programmers. BTW - I have a masters in music. I learned computer programming on my own since the age of 12, and have been working freelance since I was 18.

Now I make zero of what I did 5 years ago, in 2001 it went down 90%, and post 2008 it went down the final 9%, and now I live on the last 1%, but that's ok, I can live on 1% just fine :)

I think if you saw this coming its not a problem, its the people that didn't see it coming that are fucked.

well it's cut me big time I work 40 hours a week and saturdays but even at that I can't make it 2 years ago I made in 20 hours what I make now in 80 hours so I figure it's dropped my income 75% cause I have to work 3 weeks just to pay rent and 1 week just to pay phone bill and food it's not easy I wish I could do 2 jobs but I tried several times and one job always suffered cause I did'nt have the energy level needed
