That's a holdover from the days when a penny was actually worth something. Back then (WAY back then) $1.99 sounded like a much better bargain than $2.
Okay how about 1 coin, 2 coins and 3 coins. Low skilled labourers get one hour coin, tradesmen get 2 hour coins and high skilled workers get 3 coins or possibly 4 coins for very high skilled workers.
Does a highly skilled worker get 4 coins for doing a job which requires no special skill?

Tell me you'll feel the same way when and if an (unelected, unaccountable) council for the American Union situated say in Panama makes all AMERICAN laws. And the ALL the laws for Canada, Central and South America.

The grass is not always greener. Do you know anyone living in Germany? I do and they actually work in the healthcare system. They are planning to emigrate. Because the state mandated health policies are keeping wages artificially low. The figures don't tell the whole story.
Germany wants a lower euro as they are an export nation and this suits them. The same cannot be said for every other EU nation. Which is my point.

Well I certainly won't call you a liar because in a country of ~81 million there certainly must be some doctors that feel that way.
That said the vast majority of my family live and work in Germany and given the conditions there versus the conditions here I for one can not wait to repatriate.
There was a time when the United States of America really was the greatest country on earth. The world is a sadder place for that no longer being anywhere even close to true.

Actually even with all the problems going on in Europe Germany isn't having any problems at all...
In many ways I believe the EU crisis can be summarized as the Bundesbank being way too confident that 7/8ths of the EU could fail and the german speaking countries would actually be the better for it.

Yeah, except all labor isn't equal. I can find 100 guys in a minute that can lay concrete, but I have to hunt for a good heart surgeon. Guess what. Due to economic laws of scarcity, the doctor's labor is worth more.

Not everyone CAN be a doctor....I couldn't be a doctor.....hence I became an engineer. And more people failed out of my engineering program than passed.
And we have the easiest country in the world in which to get an education. If you want it badly enough, you can do anything.

it's true, even in oppressed Cuba (as mentioned in this thread) EVERYONE has a right to a full and higher level education for free, no job issues, time, etc..
Cuba has 100% education even with all of the trade embargos and attacks from the US, they really are remarkable and only 1 example of this.
also, education curriculum in US is a joke, standards are ridiculously low, kids are distracted and taught useless and wrong info, and now many are being put on behavior modification drugs, it's quite pathetic.
I truly agree that education in this country is pathetic as all get. And it would be awesome if we could supply higher education to everyone who wants it in this country, although at this point we just don't have the resources to do it.
Cuba might also have an easier time with the situation being they are so much smaller than us.

Cheap labor has a place though. Everyone can't make a million dollars a year. Although we can educate people to the hilt, that doesn't mean that we won't have a market for menial labor, and that those who participate in menial labor will be paid at the lowest end of the scale.

What I don't understand is, why are none of the names of the criminal elites on all the signs that the protesters are carrying?
